Checking quickly different versions of a page history is difficult

Reproduction steps

Say you want to check quickly 3 versions of a page

1. open a page with 3 revisisions
2. on the tab history, click on the last one
3. observe how to switch the second to last revision

Expected

An action is presented to the user, allowing to quickly check the next/previous/arbitrary version of the page

Actual

The only option is to go to the bottom of the page, click on the history tab (which is not opened by default), scroll down the history and click on a revision.

Fix ideas

Brainstorming of potential fixes:

1. keep open the history tab after clicking on a link
2. provide buttons to navigate revisions (a bit like what XWiki does with the diff view arrows)
3. highlight the currently displayed revision in the history table
4. allow filtering the history table
