Closing this as a "Won't fix" because we now have a codestyle that specifies that icons should always come with a text alternative, and hold no extra semantics. The change proposed in this ticket would combine with this codestyle in a regression to accessibility (double reading every icon). Therefore the default implementation without any semantics is more suitable.
