I changed the title to "Match the blog post date color to the top navigation and panel header colors" to better reflect the update. I agree that this is indeed an improvement and, while previous variable is also part of the color theme, the blog post date element contains big colored areas. This element is comparable to the panel header and the top navigation, which is why this change enhances visual consistency.
