The numbered headings CSS is actually using a non-breaking space so it's expected to get the non-breaking space there. The PDF export test has been updated on master branch but the change was not cherry-picked on stable-16.10.x. Cherry-picking this commits fixes the problem https://github.com/xwiki/xwiki-platform/commit/cbef3caf84e3eb52468d53997da5cab5745dad83 .
