This happens because the `.navbar-left` element, even when empty, because of its margins, takes up a space of 30px*7.5px . When the screen gets smaller, the layout puts the icon under this element (7 pixels lower) and the navbar gets a bit larger. This explanation lines up with the observed range, this inconsistency happened on a range of 30pxs.
