[xwiki-devs] [Proposal] Suggest widget visual redesign
Hello again, Following my previous email, here is a first draft proposition about the visual redesign of the suggest widget. Currently the widget style is pretty off the colibri skin. A bit better with toucan, but not really ideal either. I propose we move to a simpler, lighter design, that make uses of Color Themes. You can find a first proposal with two variants (that you can test live) on the incubator : http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/SuggestRedesignProp... Note that this mail concerns only the first part of the document for now : suggest with items without description (items with description are not supported yet, I'll propose them later on). Let me know what you think, and if you agree with the overall direction. Then we can discuss the tiny bits. Jerome.
See my answer on the other thread. Thanks -Vincent On Nov 1, 2010, at 10:29 PM, Jerome Velociter wrote:

I don't think is fair that you show us just the tags use case. If we were to use bold for Part2, things get complicated. We are using bold just to emphase titles, so I think italics 1B are enough, because the main localization is done by .highlightColor, even though our default yellow is not that readable (but we can improve this). +1 1B Thanks, Caty
Thanks, JV.

I don't think it look that bad with bold on item description highlighting : http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/SuggestRedesignProp... The highlighting in item description in part 2 is a marginal case anyway (most of the times the description will not be matching). I'm not strongly against proposition B but I think it does not look so good. Jerome.

Hello, I don't think that there is a good reason why using the link color into the suggest results. There are no links, but only clicks in order to choose items from the result list. About highlighting, the bold usage is inherited from Google Suggest ( http://exm.nr/bRQuHJ). They used bold because they have a basic/poor design. What is interesting at Google Suggest is that they highlight the additionally suggested text (you type "xw", it suggests "xwiki platform" and highlights the "iki platform" so that the next character you type wipes out it's suggestion. I think this is smart and I would like to see a proposal (2 versions: one with bold and the other with italic) based on this example. Raluca. It's more complicated in our case since text can be matching anywhere, so you would have bold before and after the matching term. I think it would look strange, though we can try and see. Jerome.

Yes actually in the implementation I removed the link element. Jerome.
