Dear developers, Recently I had been checking each and every step in XWiki cyrillic management. Brief results from last to least: 1. Office integration: no way to work with cyrillic page names http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XOFFICE-252 2. Eclipse:: no way to work with cyrillic space names http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XECLIPSE-154 3. $response.sendRedirect() gives ??? instead of cyrillic letters, so some scripts become useless, Parent Page search suggest in edit mode gives ??? instead of cyrillic http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-6955 The rest works fine, or I didn't discover it yet :-)))) As far as I understand XWiki, all these bug should live somewhere in the core, maybe somewhere else also and it's not so trivial to fix it. The question is: what are priorities in XWiki development and is it planned to make cyrillic users happy to use all XWiki features available in nearest future? Thanks a lot for understanding. Thanks for hint Vincent, these options are indeed possible and I considered them (didn't know that svn integration is already available). But trick is to not break usability. So that you can just switch between "tagged" content and "trunk" without a need to overwrite "trunk" by imported XAR, or update to revision from svn, or have another server for deploying tags as this will definitely provoke conflicts. For simple user that's it: switch mode, navigate in tagged/baselined content. I guess it may not even require version control system like svn underneath if we have all history in database anyway. Is it in general possible to introduce such a feature that will for all read-only actions (view, export) provide only "tagged" content? If possible how much efforts may it need? Did someone else experience a need in such a feature for a groupware (which wiki belongs to as for me)? [xwiki-users] Tag/baseline for wiki or space

Hi xwiki people, Is there a possibility to have something like tags or baselines for complete wiki or particular space? What I mean is possibility to use the power of navigation between pages as usual with condition that all pages revision in this mode would belong to this "tag" or just have modification date not later than specified. I have noticed "SVN Integration (make it possible to store and edit wiki pages in SVN)" in Survey on XWiki Features ( http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/SurveyXWikiFeatures), but this topic looks obsolete as last modification was done in January 2010. Background is that my team currently uses xwiki for requirements management on a software project and it is vital to have baselines. Alternatively export to PDF/RTF could be used, but firstly it refuses to handle some of pages as is (we've created several classes with customized sheets), and secondly it would require intensive tailoring of output to get nice laconic document (exclude pages that are not relevant, make headers correct relevantly to hierarchy, etc.) Greetz, Andrey Stoliarov

I have created a space "Engineering". I have changed the default space in xwiki.cfg to Engineering, this works. A few questions: - Is this the best way to change the default space? - Is there a way to change the default space per group? - Can I effectively trap a group of users into one space? - I can hack the theme so the logo takes you back to Engineering instead of Main, but is this the best way? [xwiki-users] Attachment loss after restarting tomcat

Hello everybody, I think I do have a severe problem. I created a new wiki and enabled file system storage as described here: http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Filesystem+Attachment+… As described here (http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Attachments) I should be able to find the attachments in /usr/share/tomcat5.5/work/storage/xwiki/?. Unfortunately they are all saved in a temp directory: /usr/share/tomcat5.5/temp/work/storage/xwiki/Main/Test_for_upload/~this/attachments After restarting tomcat all attachments seem to be gone. What have I done wrong? Do I need to change anything in the tomcat configs? Any help is appreciated, Stephanie

[xwiki-users] "Cyryllic bug" in scripting

Dear Users, I found bug with cyrillic letters in velocity Scripting. Does it happen only with cyrillic? http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-6955 Something similar was found in this extention http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Extract+Wikipedia+Arti… I wrote a comment to the page. Should I report it as a bug, or its not supported by XWiki development team? Cyrillic users would be unhappy if scripting has such "other languages" limitations. :-( Is it possible to fix this somehow? As to: http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-6955 Same Script again. The question is: If you enter "Smith John" in the input field, script creates page "SmithJohn". [xwiki-users] After update to 3.1 default skin is broken

I deployed the new war-file and copied ?xwiki.cfg?, Xwiki.properties?, ?hibernate.cfg.xml? and ?mysql-connector-java-5.1.5-bin.jar? from the old instance. After die update the colibri-skin was broken. Any ideas what went wrong? Thank you again, Stephanie

[xwiki-users] Migrate to Filesystem Storage Issues

Hello, I tried to get the Filesystem attachments to work. Unfortunately, after setting the appropriate config parameters in xwiki.conf and restarting tomcat, all attachments stored in the database are not accessible any more. Therefore I tried to use the Filesystem Attachment Porter(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Filesystem+Atta…. The importer complains that there are no files to import, though. Am I missing a step here? Thank you for your help, Stephanie

What is considered the best way to use photos published on flickr (or any media storing and sharing source) in the XWiki a) through the image button in the Rich Text editor, so it can be done without coding, macro's b) a macro that you can call from the button strip in the rich text editor There used to be a Flickr integration on the XWiki extensions, but they only work in syntax 1.0 It would be great if you can also used secured photos on flickr through safe links. User must login to XWiki, but can see foto's in flickr although when going directly to flickr that user could not see the photo's Today we are uploading photo's two times; once to flickr and once to XWiki, where the metadata in flickr is much richer; title, description, geotag, dat/time We would like to replace that with a much more integrated approach; upload once see everywhere. If other foto-sharing services are better integrated with XWiki platform, we are willing to look at these (Picasa, Facebook, ...) and migrate our photo's to these services Gerritjan

[xwiki-users] Idea collection minimal xwiki configuration

Hi Users, After some mails with Vincent and Scott the idea was born to make a strip-down-xwiki guide. The reason for this is the fact that for a lot of novice users, xwiki seems at the first glance to complex to handle. By making a strip-down Guide we hope to make Xwiki more accessible for a broader audience, and thus generate more users worldwide. In order to make this strip-down Guide as complete as possible, I would like to ask all of you to post your thoughts and ideas on this. For starters, here are mine, if they are allready easily solved, let me know: -Make the search function easier to adapt. For instance, I have multiple spaces, and i want that the search function only searches in certain, predifened spaces and shows the results within the space the search was started from. -An easy way to create a template so that users cannot copy paste in whatever form and shape they want, but it shows a line where they can type in the header, and below the content. All in the same style. -An easy way to show-hide the comments box on the bottom of the page. At the moment I use a solution where I include a document with the script to do this in, in every page. This should be dealt with globally, and possible for people without a lot of programming knowledge. -The sandgrains work, but not from one space to another, at the moment I use the include Makro to maintain my saindgrain navigation intact, but it would be far easier if documents from other spaces where I link to, adapt the parent from the space where I started from. -The Logo has a predefined link to the main wiki, which causes endusers in a space, when they click on this, to get to the main wiki page, and it confuses them. I would like an easy way (not by editing the global.vm template!) to personalize this. -A wide spread opinion says, that you can just give users rights to certain documents. But if an enduser can see a document, but not open it, the endusers feels as if there are secrets kept from him. I want an easier way to hide these documents completey, but show them to other users who are allowed to see them in the same space. -Expand and collaps user generated panels If I create panels, their initial state is allways open, I can close them, but when I go to anothere page, it shows the panels open again. Is it possible to make check box within each panel in the panel wizard that allows me to change this? Many of these points here may seem irrelevant to many of the longtime developers, but a lot of questions within this userlist have to do with the usability. For your understanding, I come from a total different corner then most of you. I come from CM, not from programming. But I think if we can work together on this, Xwiki will gain more users in the end. If anyone sees this different, let me know, lets communicate so I can start working on the Strip down Guide. [xwiki-users] Deleted Attachments in filesystem Storage

Hi! Xwiki 3.1. Attachment versioning turned off (xwiki.store.attachment.versioning.hint = void) Storage is set to file system, Recicle Bin is ON. 1. xwiki/bin/view/Main/AllDocs?view=attachments - gives empty table. How one can see all attachments in a Live table? 2. To verify attachment versioning: attach several times the same file - one copy is stored as a file in a storage, version upgrades correctly - no problem. 3. I deleted an attachment. It shoild be in recycle bin: ~GLOBAL_DELETED_ATTACHMENT_ID_MAPPINGS.xml appeared in /store folder. XML inside shows were to find files. Files are on their places as descriebed. BUT Recycle bin gives terrible surprise: it stores TWO COPIES of deleted file: first is: <filename>.<extension> second is: <filename>~v1.1.<extension> Please note, that attachment VERSIONING is turned OFF. For big attachments (1GB and more) such a behaviour is a disaster for two reasons: - unreasonable disk space consumption - (probably) huge delay while user deleting attachment. What is correct way to disallow XWiki such file duplication? 4. XWiki.DeletedAttachments gives empty table. How one can see all deleted attachments in a Live table? Thanks a lot Dmitry Bakbardin

Thanks a lot for for assistance, Ludovic. Looks complicated, but at first glance at least manageable. Will you recommend any Java-based sync tools to build completely platform independent system? Ideal solution for me looks smth like: - Master Wiki accepts file and stores it in FS storage - Master Wiki initiates an event and sends it to Sync Tool / Mirror Wiki - Sync Tool / Mirror Wiki requests file, gets it, stores it and writes success sync event in log. Do we need to tie XWiki events with sync events, or it is safe for XWiki, when mirror database has a "new-file" record and file is not in the storage yet? "1/ A redundant RAID5 network storage shared over Fiber Channel and NFS. This is for clustering" Is it possible to configure XWiki to use ANY folder as a storage, OR default one is an only option? If Yes, HOW? Some bugs are found in 3.1 with FS on. Sounds like a nice project File System storage does have it's drawback, which is why we initially chose to be "all-database", but we faced the limitation of database storage for very large attachments.. Backup and Clustering are indeed more complex, but it's possible.. On filesystem storage implementation, there are several sufficient question are still beyond of understanding: 1. Clustering and/or mirroring XWiki. When data was stored completely in the Database Engine - it was more or less clear how to build following system: Customers -> Master Server --> Mirror Server If Master Server is down - we easily switch customers to Mirror Server. Afterwards we restore full configuration and get back necessary redundancy. With filesystem storage mirroring mission becomes impossible? I suggest either 1/ A redundant RAID5 network storage shared over Fiber Channel and NFS. This is for clustering 2/ A "rdist" process that will replicate regularly the FS for mirroring only 2. Backup process. Database data backup is also more or less clear. When filesystem storage turned on, there is painful moment of synchronizing backup moment both for data in Database AND data in Filesystem. The only Idea I have for now: stop everything, backup everything, run everything. IMO it's not the best solution due to quite annoying downtime. Are you going to implement such a functionality inside? What is the best pactice to implement backup in a right way? I would suggest: 1/ rdist replication + mysql replication 2/ when backuping, blocking both replication and performing the backup At XWiki SAS we always use a MySQL replication which is the DB being backed-up. This is important to have the minimal impact on the production system. If you backup the production database directly you can have locking issues that block XWiki from operating properly. But on digging deeper I'm a bit desperate now: XE is an excellent platform to run the project from one side, from other - completely unclear how to make it safe :-( On filesystem storage implementation, there are several sufficient question are still beyond of understanding: 1. Clustering and/or mirroring XWiki. When data was stored completely in the Database Engine - it was more or less clear how to build following system: Customers -> Master Server --> Mirror Server If Master Server is down - we easily switch customers to Mirror Server. Afterwards we restore full configuration and get back necessary redundancy. With filesystem storage mirroring mission becomes impossible? 2. Backup process. Database data backup is also more or less clear. When filesystem storage turned on, there is painful moment of synchronizing backup moment both for data in Database AND data in Filesystem. The only Idea I have for now: stop everything, backup everything, run everything. IMO it's not the best solution due to quite annoying downtime. Are you going to implement such a functionality inside? What is the best pactice to implement backup in a right way? Vincent and Wouter -- thanks for the great responses. I'll try to take your advice and tweak just a space for normal users. One thing I've identified that would be nice, but I don't know how to do... I'd like the Document Metadata panel that is below the content panel to _not_ appear, unless someone selects Comments, Annotations, Attachments, History, Information in the top right corner of the content panel. I think this must be possible, the reason, why else would there be two ways to navigate to it -- top right of content _and_ tabs on meta panel. (I'm aware of turning off each Doc Metadata tab from the Page Elements... but I don't want them off, just not expanded out.) ^ That would simplify the look quite a bit. I've started some notes so I can reproduce what I'm doing at some point: (scripting myself) Create a new group "Wiki Users" Create some users as Wiki Users Login as them to see what a non-admin sees Probably have 2 different browsers to keep flipping back and forth Create a new Space, one which will be the normal user's default Keep default skin so you don't stray from supported world Go to Administer Wiki -> Look & Feel Presentation you can change the color of the default skin Page Elements -> turn off left panel, turn on right panel, etc Panel Wizard -> choose what you want in the right panel There are more things I'd like to do: Backlinks has redundant pages something like " | sort | uniq" is needed. A bug? Add Search in right panel and remove X-WIKI header of page. Header must be somewhere in the skin? I'd like users to see this: content (edit, print) search box minimal side bar backlinks (and not much more) Is there a guide on how to strip down what a normal user sees to the bare essentials? Hello, I've build my own XAR file to import pages from Oracle Database into Xwiki. The importation is OK but the pages are never indexed by Lucene. Even if I use the administration form and re-buil the index, it doesn't work. If I create a new page directly in my Xwiki, it is indexed without any problem. What's wrong with the importation ? [xwiki-users] file operations in file system storage is too slow

HI! Xwiki 3.1. Attachment versioning turned off. Storage is set to file system, Works fine with relatively small files. I uploaded 700M file - no problem, a bit to wait, but works fine. Hi! By default, XWiki doesn't have "resume" ability for downloads. Is there any way to turn it on? From the moment file system storage was implemented into XE it makes sence. And another question-idea: On uploading big (all) files, XWiki creates hash for torrent, stores it together with file. On Download request - user gets torrent file and starts download. Server side strats seeding and after download is complete - kills seeding process from torrent-client. Upload can be done almost the same way. Hi, Many of our users use copy and past from windows (or mac) to bring textsnippets into the wiki In the display it looks fine, but when you edit the wiki, not the wysywig editor, there is a lot of <span>, ((())) or sometimes even <html> tags. Is it possible to configure the editor (or something else) that it is only possible to paste UTF ascii text without any styling (!) [xwiki-users] Problem with copy and paste of lines with file attachments

When I do cut and paste it seems to make a mess of the local url. I can fix it by going into the Source instead of WYSYWYG but that is probably not something you want to suggest to your technical or proposal writer or PA... I notice it changes the form from 'attach:filename' to 'http:localpath/filename' and sometimes makes a mess of it. There seems to be some problem with the quoting; I noticed that one of my file names with a '-' in the middle seemed to cause quoting to go strange. Hi, I am a user of myxwiki and I receive notifications on pages such as "June 6: Upgraded xwiki to version 3.1 SNAPSHOT from 2011-06-06. Don't forget to upgrade your wiki with the latest XAR (Upgrade instructions)." Does that mean the XWiki Core has been upgraded and I just need to upgrade wiki documents? If so, having downloaded the latest XAR (xwiki-enterprise-wiki-3.1-20110824.095236-263.xar in this instance) to my PC, can I expand it within myxwiki or unzip it on my machine? Do I export my xwiki, merge my files into the new build and then import back? Since with myxwiki the wiki is already available I don't have the experience of building one from scratch and the confidence to just make changes knowing they are on a local machine. Please can you provide some clearer guidelines for users of myxwiki. Thanks, Jonathan

[xwiki-users] Importing attached files in Xwiki

Hello, My company wants to migrate the content of an Oracle database into XWiki. This database contains files (xls, doc, rtf etc...) stored in BLOB which are linked with text documents. In order to migrate the text documents, I use the import in Xar format and it's OK, the problem is the migration of the files. In my Wiki I chose the option to store the attached files outside the database. I expected to put "metadatas attachment" in the xml files and simply copy my files in the right directory but it doesn't work. Is it a wrong idea ? What's the best way to do it ? Thank you for help. The aim is to quickly see the number of annotations near the top of the page, as it is shown for comments and attachments. I know this feature is available in 3.0, the idea is to get it in 2.7. Hi, In XE 2.7.2 and 3.1, using Groovy in a wiki page, a call to - xwiki.getDocument( "Main.WebHome") returns the correct document object - xwiki.getDocument( "WebHome") returns the WebHome doc object of the current space (not really documented in the javadoc) - xwiki.getDocument( "NotExistingDocName") returns a Document object (a empty one I suppose) instead of a null Is it a bug or do I miss something ? Is there another way to test that a page, specified by its name, exists ? Thanks Maxime Sinclair

[xwiki-users] xWiki integration

Hello, I have a question concerning the integration of xWiki into a vaadin project. We are very keen to add some of the xWiki features to our project, for example the WYSIWYG editor, the versioning, multilang support, plugin support... Because these features will then be very interconnected with our application, we refrain from using the REST api. What we rather want is to use the xWiki somehow as a 'library' which provides components we can add to our vaadin view. The question now is, if someone has done such thing before or it it is even possible ? Do we have to rip the whole xwiki sourcecode apart or is there an easy way to adapt xWiki to the vaadin framework ? I would be very pleased with any kind of answer and I would also be happy to explain our project in detail if its not clear enough. [xwiki-users] Installation query (Windows)

I am running the Windows executable installer. I am using 64-bit Windows 7. I have admin privileges, and I ran the installer as Administrator. The installer stops after successfully unpacking the files. The "gears" icon is highlighted. I can click the "Next" button (it is not disabled) but nothing happens -- the wizard doesn't update. If I hit "Finish", the window closes. It does not add the start/stop items to my Windows menu. If I execute the batch file manually, it seems to work (DOS window opens, displays progress text, does not display any error messages), but going to localhost:8080 gets me an error page, implying the server is not running. If I execute the "stop" batch, it correctly terminates the program (closing the DOS window). I do not believe I have any server running on 8080. (If I did, I'd expect to see it, not the "host not found" error page.) [xwiki-users] Installing XWiki on Ubuntu Natty

I've been battling with partial documentations of different install configurations on different versions of systems and trying to collate them. I have probably done all sorts of wrong things, but perhaps some one here can set me straight with a few words. I am remotely installing to a Natty server (a KVM VM) via an ssh connection. I installed a bunch of packages,among which are: apache2, tomcat6, tomcat6-examples, tomcat6-user, mysql-server, mysql-client tomcat6 is working and I can get to it by the wiki.myhost.mydomain DNS name. I download the current xwiki.war using wget to /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/xwiki.war and tomcat6 seemed to have automatically unpacked it. The version was xwiki-enterprise-installer-generic-3.1-standard.jar I downloaded the latest version of the mysql connector. The version was mysql-connector-java-5.1.17.jar. What I then discovered was that there was a META-INF directory but no WEB-INF as described in the various install instructions I read. For the hell of it I then installed the openjdk-6-jdk package which of course loaded a *lot* of other packages. I then tried jar xf mysql-connector-java-5.1.17.jar in the /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/xwiki directory and that gave me a META-INF and a couple other directories. There is no hibernate.cfg.xml, described in all the install info I have read, anywhere to be found. I am certain I have at some point gone off the narrow twisty path to success but have no idea where. Advice would be much appreciated. Dale Amon

I want to create a treeview navigation element which looks like the left menu on this confluence page: http://www.stripesframework.org/display/stripes/Home Therefore I created a new navigation element and tried to manipulate the original velocity code of the treeview. It is working but I have two problems: - The main problem is that if I choose a page from a sublevel the whole page is reloaded and the sublevel is closed aftwerwards. How can I change this, it is very annoying? - The second problem is that the menu is not width enough. After some levels the pages are not displayed properly. How can I prevent this? [xwiki-users] Approval process for user edits?

Hello again, XWiki community. I am working on using XWiki to be the repository for a library of process documents that will be added to and updated on a constant basis by members of our team. It looks like it's going to be a great resource for us. However, I do have a question that involves rights and permissions. Our manager wants to incorporate an approval process in the process document wiki. She wants users to be able to edit existing process documents and create new process documents, but for those documents to go through a technical/style review by supervisors before they are published for use by the team. I don't see a way to manage permissions/rights to make that idea work for the wiki as a whole, though I can see a workaround for new process documents (force them to be created in a "Review" space). Is there a way to make user edits go through a review process before they can be published/go live? I realize that this goes against the basic concept of a wiki in some ways, and I explained to our manager that we have version rollback capability, but she wants these controls in place prior to publishing. Can anyone offer some guidance? Thanks, John

I originally went through the XEM installation tutorial without any results, and thought the problem was related to port configuration. [xwiki-users] XWiki on Cassandra

I have an instance of XWiki finally running on Cassandra. http://kk.l.to:8080/xwikiOnCassandra/ Cassandra is a "NoSQL" database, unlike a traditional SQL database it cannot do advanced queries but it can store data in a more flexible way eg: each row is like a hashtable where additional "columns" can be added at will. The most important feature of Cassandra is that multiple Cassandra nodes can be connected together into potentially very large "swarms" of nodes which reside in different racks or even data centers continents apart, yet all of them represent the same database. Cassandra was developed by Facebook and their swarm was said to be over 200 nodes strong. In it's application with XWiki, each node can have an XWiki engine sitting on top of it and users can be directed to the geographically closest node or to the node which is most likely to have a cache of the page which they are looking for. Where a traditional cluster is a group of XWiki engines sitting atop a single MySQL engine, this allows for a group of XWiki engines to sit atop a group of Cassandra engines in a potentially very scalable way. In a cloud setting, one would either buy access to a provided NoSQL store such as Google's BigTable or they would setup a number of XWiki/Cassandra stacks in a less managed cloud such as Rackspace's or Amazon's. How it works: XWiki objects in the traditional Hibernate based storage engine are persisted by breaking them up into properties which are then joined again when the object is loaded. A user object which has a name and an age will occupy a row in each of three tables, the xwikiobjects table, the xwikistrings table, and the xwikiintegers table. The object's metadata will be in the xwikiobjects table while the name will be in a row in the xwikistrings table and the age, a number, will go in the xwikiintegers table. The NoSQL/Datanucleus based storage engine does this differently, the same object only occupies space in the XWikiDocument table where it takes advantage of Cassandra's flexibility by simply adding a new column for each property. NOTE: this is not fully implemented yet, objects are still stored serialized. [xwiki-users] Adding plugins, styles in WYSIWYG Editor configuration

Hi, XWiki community. I’ve been wrestling with the WYSIWYG Editor configuration process for a couple of days, and Marius has been a huge help thus far. But now I’m having an issue with adding plugins and defining styles in the configuration window. Marius explained the process before and I was able to load some plugins and associated features. I was also able to define some styles to be included in the toolbar. Everything was working well. But now, for some reason, I can’t load any more plugins or styles. I’ll load them (for example, the “color” plugin) and click the Save button at the bottom of the screen. Normally, a green save message will appear, but that message is not appearing this time. The editor configuration page reloads and the color plugin is no longer in the list of loaded plugins. However, in the Activity Stream, it shows that I’ve edited the WYSIWYG Editor Configuration Panel and the version has increased by 1. So it seems that the system is indeed trying to make those changes, and some elements believe that a change has been made. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks, John

[xwiki-users] Cannot Configure WYSIWYG Editor in standalone installation of XE3.1

Hi, folks. I’m experimenting with a standalone installation of XE3.1 and trying to increase the control that users would have over the appearance of the pages they add. I’d love to do this primarily with the WYSIWYG editor, since that would be the most user-friendly avenue in my opinion. So I tried to add the “font” and “style” plugins and then make the associated changes in the tool bar, but nothing I do seems to have any effect on the WYSIWYG editor. When I leave the WYSIWYG Editor administration page and then return, my changes are still there… they just don’t appear in the editor itself. I’ve reviewed the WYSIWYG Editor Configuration page in the documentation, but nothing there has helped me. I’ve even taken a look in the templates/macros.vm file, but could not locate any of the lines the WYSIWYG Editor Configuration page said I should see. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

Few days ago I tested 3.2-milestone-1 and, as I see, old problem with russian symbols (or any other non-english) in attachment names - did not resolved yet (attachement names doesn't support unicode symbols). When using the Watchlist Application in XWiki Enterprise 3.1 with Enterprise Manager, the changed document links in the notification emails have incorrect URLs There are 2 problems: duplicated "/bin/" element in link URL e.g. http://subwiki.server.com/bin/bin/view/SpaceName/PageName incorrect wiki e.g. changed doc in wiki#1, but server component of link url points to wiki#2 We are using both global and local users in the subwikis. Using tomcat 7 with mysql (both setup as in install guide) Everything else works fine. Has anyone any idea what is going wrong and how I might correct? Thanks, Tim

[xwiki-users] Document parent name changing on edit.

Hello All, At the top of some pages, I have three html buttons for the options to 'go to parent page', 'edit current', and 'delete current'. go to parent page works fine when the document is first created. However if someone tries to edit the page (which is necessary at some points) the parent of the page is wiped when the page is saved again. i.e. on clicking 'Save & View' the parent value is wiped and set as the page itself. Any ideas why this would be happening? Hello, I've a strange effect with our wiki farm: I can't contact the farm administration wiki anymore! All other wikis are available! Xwiki seems to think the xwiki wiki is not available and forwards me to the error page (this wiki is not available, as configured in xwiki.cfg). Is there a way to figure out what's happening here? Hi All, I have installed "XWiki Enterprise 2.2.1.27354" on my laptop, and found that after created or modified the document, the "created" and "last modified" time are wrong! For example, my local time is "2010/04/28, 22:08", but the "date" of the document I just created is "2010/04/28, 09:38". My local time zone is "Beijing, China", UTC/GMT +8 hours. How could I solve this issue? You comments are welcome! Island

Hi, I have an object (Intranet.AbCompany) where I would like to insert a relation to objects of type Intranet.AbPerson Does "display type input" allow to display one field and submit a different field (I mean to work in the same way select list does)? This is useful because if you have 1000 or more values select is not practical and the only solution is an input box with suggest. [xwiki-users] Include website as xwiki page

Hello, is there a possibility to include a website directly as a wiki page, so that clicking on a link, that redirects you to an external (www) page, loads the website directly as a "frame" in my xwiki instance. At the moment I am only able to create links that load the external site in a new tab or page. Hey everyone I'm having a problem with my xwiki setup, but I can't figure out the source of the problem neither where I should look. Here's the problem: - Xwiki is running properly on my setup. After several hours, Panels and Blog posts are mostly empty - When I check one of my panels, it says it's got unused properties that can be deleted if I want to; in fact, these properties are very much needed. - Then I checked these xwiki objects in class edition mode: Blog.* Panels.*; they are all empty and do not have any property. Restarting the application does nothing. Reimporting those objects with a XAR file pretty solves the problem. *But I can't figure out what happened*. Is there a way these objects were corrupted in database? Interesting sections (or rather a list of features) are: = In the main wiki = - Create new Workspace (Add menu or homepage button) - Workspace Directory (Top menu, under 'Workspace') - 'Workspaces' section in user profile - User Directory improvements - Join/Leave/Request membership/Accept invitation to join a workspace (Workspace Directory or homepage of a workspace) - Workspace search suggestions (top-right search box) = In a workspace = - Dashboard - Workspace information panel (right panels) - Main wiki link (Top menu, under 'Workspace') - Delete workspace (Top menu, under Workspace, for owner) - Workspace Configuration section (Administration, 'Configuration' category) - Workspace Users section; Accept membership requests or invite users (Administration, 'Users & Groups' category) - User registration redirecting to main wiki (Top-Right register link) - Removed local XWiki.Admin user Besides the Workspaces feature, the Real-Time editor is also available for a quick test. You can access it by editing a page in "Real Time" edit mode. [xwiki-users] XEM Installation Question

Someday, I will not be clueless... I have successfully installed a local development copy of xwiki on Windows, but I'm having some trouble getting XEM installed on my shared linux server. I'm running on a shared Tomcat (5.027) container. Following both the tutorial for XEM and for XE, I have done the following: 1) Since it is a shared hosting environment and java is enabled, I assume I do not have to manually install either java or MySQL. I have created a MySQL database with the name "xwikidb" through my hosting control panel with username "xwikidb." I do not have the ability to add full privileges to the user, but I was told this would not prevent basic installation of XEM. 2) Renamed the "xwiki-enterprise-installer-generic-3.1-standard.war" file to xwiki.war and uploaded to my server. It exploded as expected when the server restarted to a subdirectory called "xwiki." 3) I downloaded the MySQL Java Connector and put mysql-connector-java-5.1.17-bin.jar in my /xwiki/WEB-INF/lib folder 4) Modified the hibernate.cfg.xml file to uncomment the MySQL section and comment out the default. Changed the username and password fields to my information. 5) Checked to make sure "localhost" was defined in /etc/hosts 6) Now what? There's no .sh file in the WAR...What do I start? I have already waited for Tomcat to restart, but it doesn't appear that xwiki is running. Sure that I'm missing something obvious. Relative newbie to linux servers... Thanks, Aaron

Hi I am looking to dynamically chart some historical data I have stored in our wiki and am wondering if anyone knows the best way to approach this? Basically I have two date fields to pick what dates to run the query through, and several other options of things to graph over time. I would like to be able to just refresh a portion of the page or perhaps even the page itself (store the values I need in an attached object?) If anyone knows a good way to implement this that would be appreciated. Adam

Hi, My Xwiki is periodically crashing (version 2.7.1) on our Solaris server. The crash dump it logs is below. Does anyone know what's happening? It seems to happen when I view a wiki page, but maybe its because its already crashed due to the statisics storing daemon? Is there a problem with the "Statistics storing daemon" with this version? [xwiki-users] Uncaught Exceptions

Application Server: Tomcat 5.5 Xwiki version: 2.7.33656 I'm encountering several different exceptions that apparently go uncaught, and therefore get logged to Tomcat's standard out log. This causes the standard out log to get filled with a lot of garbage, even though the wiki seemingly runs fine. An example: org.xwiki.velocity.XWikiVelocityException: Failed to evaluate content with id [/templates/xwikivars.vm] ... Caused by: org.apache.velocity.exception.MethodInvocationException: Invocation of method 'hasAccessLevel' in class com.xpn.xwiki.api.XWiki threw exception java.lang.NullPointerException at /templates/xwikivars.vm[line 4, column 25] I would really like to know if anyone can suggest a way to get these uncaught exceptions to be logged to a different file instead. I'm not seeing any way to do so with log4j etc. Thanks, Lenny

The rest of the page content uses and saves correctly the same characters. More, if I edit and save again the page title, I reenter the characters again, then it saves ok. I did this test on the www.xwiki.org playground, and the result is the same as in my installation. Please, if somebody has experience with this, and hopefully a solution, help me. Hello, customization of skins is a very fine solution for changing page structures, cause it survives updates. In pre XWiki 3.1 we edited the global.vm of the colibri skin and our header was shown on all pages, including the login. Hi All, I have a bit of newby question which affects userrights. I have a page with content, which different usergroups will look at. I want that Usergroup A only sees the top bit of the page, and Usergroup B to see the whole page (top and bottom). Can I do this over Rightsmanagement? So that Group A will only see some Content of the Page, and Group B will see the total Content. One of the reasons why I want this, is that I do not want that Group A sees that there is more content which they cannot access. I was thinking of using the include makro here, but it would be far easier to have just one single document and use Rightsmanagent to determine who sees what on the page.
