We did it !!!!
http://enterprise2blog.com/2009/10/drum-roll-please-our-launch-pad-finalist…
I want to all thank you for helping making this happen. This is just
great for XWiki.
With this conference where we get 5 minutes on stage in the keynote room
+ a mini-pod in the exposition room, we will get a huge exposure for XWiki.
If there are some Californian's that want to meet while I'm there in San
Francisco, please tell me. It Nov 2nd, 3rd at the Moscone. I'll probably
stay a few days after.
Do come see us at the exposition. If you have a great usage of XWiki
come even more to show it to other potential users of XWiki.
The best way to help XWiki is to spread it's usage.

After upgrading from XWiki 1.4(ish) to 2.0.1 I see stuff like the following
appearing on all pages in the wiki:
$xwiki.jsfx.use('js/scriptaculous/effects.js', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('js/xwiki/widgets/modalPopup.js', true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use('js/xwiki/widgets/modalPopup.css', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('js/xwiki/widgets/jumpToPage.js', true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use('js/xwiki/widgets/jumpToPage.css', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('uicomponents/widgets/confirmationBox.js', true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use('uicomponents/widgets/confirmationBox.css', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('uicomponents/widgets/confirmedAjaxRequest.js', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('uicomponents/widgets/notification.js', true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use('uicomponents/widgets/notification.css', true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use('resources/uicomponents/viewers/tags.css', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('resources/uicomponents/viewers/tags.js', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('uicomponents/viewers/comments.js', {'forceSkinAction':
true, 'language': ${context.language}})
$xwiki.ssfx.use('uicomponents/viewers/comments.css', true)
$xwiki.jsfx.use('js/xwiki/viewers/attachments.js', {'forceSkinAction': true,
'language': ${context.language}})
$xwiki.ssfx.use('js/xwiki/viewers/attachments.css', true)
Some of it is at the tops of pages and some at the bottoms.
I'm assuming I did something terribly wrong during installation of 2 and
subsequent import of the new stuff from the xwiki-enterprise-wiki-2.0.1.xar.
Having done it several times, however, I'm a bit stuck pinpointing what
precisely it was that I did incorrectly. If I import any of the pages I
excluded initially, like the XWiki.XWikiPreferences, it more-or-less
destroys my wiki.
Additionally, the users and groups in the Administration pages don't show up
correctly; a barbershop "loading" pole spins forever.
If there are other problems I've been too preoccupied with the former issues
to notice them yet. I suspect they're all related to the same thing,
whatever it was, that I messed up.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
- AW
I use xwiki-enterprise-web-1.9.3 on my local machine.
I have, in the hosts file, given localhosts an alternate name: test.info
When I get a watchlist notice in the mail, the url refers to localhost.
I've tried a couple of entries in xwiki.cfg but they had no effect.
Is there anything I can change that will make that url refer to test.info
rather than localhost?
Hey,
I searched in the documentation and on the net and in this list but couldn't
find an answer:
The separation into Local and Global User Groups suggests that Global Users
will work for all Wikis of a farm and Local users will only work in the
current Wiki. Is this correct? After trying around a bit this seems not to
be the case.
So the next question would be if there is a feature in Xwiki to create
Global Users which will work for all Wikis of a farm?
Thx a lot!

Hi,
We've upgraded our XWiki install from 1.8.4 to 1.9.4. Most things
seems to work quite right, but there is no sign of the UI
improvements:
- The 'Jump to any page' does not appear ( shortcut does not work either );
- Livetable for showing users does not work;
- The 2.0 syntax wiki editor is still the old one ( no Ajax save and
continue, no improved toolbar, nu improved full screen );
- the 2.0 syntax wysywig editor does not have a 'source' tab
We've went through the usual suspects:
- 2.0 syntax is enabled
- the plugin includes the default plugins from a stock 1.9.4 install
Any ideas to where we should start digging?
Thanks,
Robert

Was XWiki running prior to week 41? How long has it been running
before the leak?
Do you know what has been done on the wiki the week of the leak?
Attaching big files, etc?
Thanks

Yep, though I sent mail as html, and it was dropped.
Hopefully it will go now.

It seems to me, Xwiki 2.0 has a memory leak (see memory increase form
week 41 to week 42).
Virtual memory for jsvc process has increased to almost 1GB.

I recently upgraded to XWiki 2.0 and I am trying to add the fontsize, fontname, and backround color to the options available to users within the WYSIWYG editor. Within Macros.vm, I added fontname fontsize forecolor backcolor to the toolbar plugin. I found the following link, but was unable to get this to work properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance.

Hello,
I try to import an Office (word 2003 document) with a "Ç" character (ALT 128).
The result into the wiki page is: "Ç".
The result is the same in "UTF-8" or in "ISO-8859-1".
Is this due to a configuration issue or a bug?
Thank's in advance for your answer.
Best Regards,
Is anyone working on an XWiki book and can tell us about it? :-) I think the current documentation improvement efforts are great, but what we really need is a good book that ties together XWiki capabilities with up-to-date examples.

Hi,
I'm writing a comoponent that needs to access and modify XWiki objects. I'm
using the DocumentAccessBridge interface, but a little puzzled by the
interface. It seems like, to inspect the objects of a given class in a
given document, I have to do something like:
String[] properties = new String {"firstName, lastName"};
int objectNum = 0;
boolean moreObjects = true;
while (moreObjects) {
for (String property : properties) {
String value = (String) documentAccessBridge.getProperty(documentName,
"Main.MyClass", objectNum, property);
if (value == null) {
moreObjects = false;
break;
}
// ...
}
objectNum++;
}
It also seems like it's impossible to set properties of any object other
than the first one of its class in a document, using the one setProperty
method.
Is this a correct way to access objects (I've been having trouble testing as
per my previous post)? Is there another way to modify objects?
I did notice that this interface is only intended to be temporary until a
redesign exposes the whole model as a component. When is this expected to
happen?
Thanks,
David Breeden

Hi,
I'm writing a component with a dependency on a 3rd-party JAR. I've
installed the JAR in my local repository and added the dependency in the
component's POM, and everything builds fine. However, when I add the
component to my XWiki install (on the same machine) and try to start it up,
I get a NoClassDefFound error.
What is the standard way to write a component with 3rd-party dependencies?
Thanks!

Hi All ,

Hi,
I'm new to XWiki (and Maven, for that matter) and would like to write a
component. I've gone through the Writing XWiki Components tutorial and the
Building XWiki from sources page and also found this helpful post:
http://n2.nabble.com/Components-in-XWiki-td2621693.html#a2621693. I
generated the sample org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld component from the
archetype in the tutorial, compiled it using the Maven Eclipse plugin, then
dropped the jar in my WEB-INF\lib. But when I try to load the component
with the sample script:
{{groovy}}
def greeter =
com.xpn.xwiki.web.Utils.getComponent(org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld.class);
{{/groovy}}
I get exceptions saying "Failed to load component
[org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld] for hint [default]" and "Can't find
descriptor for the component [role = [org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld] hint =
[default]]"
I've also tried adding the @ComponentRole and @Component annotations (with
no hints) to HelloWorld.java and DefaultHelloWorld.java which weren't there
before, and also adding org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld to the plugins in
xwiki.cfg, but this doesn't seem to change anything.
What am I missing to successfully load the component?
Much thanks,
David Breeden

Hi,
I've got lots and lots of pages created in xwiki/1.0 syntax. Now we decided to migrate to V2.0. Furthermore it's noticeable that we use XMLRPC to upload pages to our wiki. Migration lead to rendering problems in the new version since it expects the pages to be in xwiki/2.0 format by default. I changed the default to xwiki/1.0, cleared the wiki and did another upload and it worked as expected.
However this isn't the approach we would like to use in production. To avoid migrating hundreds of pages (and lots of code that builds pages) to 2.0 syntax but to keep the default value xwiki/2.0 we're somehow stuck. A possible and reasonable compromise could be to set the syntax of a page during creation time, meaning that legacy pages will be created as 1.0 others maybe as 2.0, or (to start dreaming) in a way of autodetecting the page's syntax.
To make it short:
Is there a way we could easily upload our 1.0 pages to a 2.0 wiki without changing the default value? Otherwise we would have to spend several days in migrating our code, which costs us without giving us any additional functionality.
Thank you
Mike
Hi all,
is it possible to fill an array in groovy, return it to velocity and
manipulate the array in velocity ?
e.g.:
filling a groovy_array with results from sql.eachRow
Now, when I'm trying to access it with velocity, the whole array is just
one string and I can't loop through it using #foreach.
Do you have any ideas what I can do ?
thanks in advance

Hi,
if I'm logged in at dev.xwiki.org and call
http://playground.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome
the following error occurs:
"You are not allowed to view this document or perform this
action."
If I log out, the error doesn't occur and I can see the Playground Main
page.
If I I create (register) an extra user for playground.xwiki.org (with
the same user id), it woks well.
It's a little bit confusing...

Hello,
I have added two drafts for User and Administrator Cookbooks:
- http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XEDocUserCookbook
- http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XEDocAdminCookbook
both are linked from the Documentation Main Page draft:
http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XEDocMain
I have seen some interesting recipes at the user mailing list. If you
like this approach, please add your recipes in the cookbooks :)
As soon as the draft for the Documentation Main Page is ready, the
cookbook drafts could be "activated" as well.
Any help/feedback would be apreciated.
P.S. as I have edited this pages from Ubuntu and Windows, some things
are broken, such as info boxes, line breaks...
Thanks,
Roman
Hi,
we got links to the Filesystem like

they are converted correctly to syntax 2.0 and are working there too
[[file://svivm01/sharepoint_layouts$>>file://///svivm01/sharepoint_layouts$]]
But when we edit those pages in the new WYSIWYG the Links just
disappear!!!???
Why?

Hello,
currently the xwiki documentation runs on several wiki instances and
spaces. Unfortunately it's not structured well too, so it's really very
hard to find required information. It's my experience.
I think something like a Table of Content could help indeed. Probably it
would be fix & dirty solution, but nevertheless a solution.
Please look at the current draft for that page:

Any feedback/help would be appreciated.

Hello,
we've started using XWiki in our company. For evaluation we've used XWiki on Tomcat with a MYSQL DB and everything worked fine. But after we've set up our future environment also on Tomcat but using MS SQL Server as DB we've getting the following error messages in the blog space:
Error number 4001 in 4: Error while parsing velocity page Blog.WebHome
Wrapped Exception: Failed to evaluate content with id Web Home<http://adewki00.de.festo.net/xwiki/bin/view/Blog/>
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 4001 in 4: Error while parsing velocity page Blog.WebHome
...
Doing further examinations we've found that the embedded SQL is causing the exception. In the conditional part there test to inequality (<>) is replaced by entities (<>). The exception is thrown in Xwiki 1.9.3 as also in Xwiki 2.0 and can't be reproduced on local installation so that our assumption is that the issue has something to do with the usage of MS SQL Server.
For this case our questions are:
1.) Is there anybody using also MS SQL Server with Xwiki? If yes are there the same exceptions thrown?
2.) Is there a possibility to fix the error by ourselves in modifying the respective template? Where or how do we find the template?
Thanks in advance and best regards

Dear all (Bonjour à tous),
We would like to migrate our JSPWiki installation to Xwiki 2.0. The deployment of the war file, the configuration with our Oracle database and the uploading of the content XAR file went smoothly.
For this migration to succeed, we need to migrate our JSPwiki content to xwiki. The best information I found on that was that page:
http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extensions/JSPWikiToXWikiExtension
Unfortunately after following all the instructions, this piece of code failed in the following sections:
1) Invoking the 2 argument constructor below was throwing an exception
this.xwiki = new com.xpn.xwiki.XWiki(config, this.context);
2) After changing this to invoke the default constructor, the code threw an exception when setting up WikiEngine.
Is this still the way to migrate JSWiki content to Xwiki? If yes could someone help us to investigate the errors?

Dear list,
I have seen on the site that it'd be possible to get a free hosting or
xwiki.
I am doing an e-learning program in a French University and having a wiki
for project sharing within the school groups i'll be working with would be
perfect.
I unfortunately don't know of any specific hosting for xwiki other than this
one (or any wiki for that matter, and I have to say, I have been seduced by
the richness of xwiki). Moreover, I don't think I would be able to run a
computer permanently to have the wiki running days & nights - my computer
performance would not allow it.
I have found affordable java hosting, but then I have no clue on how to
install xwiki on an ftp or even if that's possible at all.
Please let me know if my request is realistic enough to be eligible for free
xwiki hosting.
Thanks in advance,

Local wikis doesn't allow macros; therefore they have to be placed in the main wiki. However how do I call such macros?

Hello list,
I'm using a XWiki 2.0 instance where users are authenticated against an Active
Directory through LDAP.
But I want to use AD only for authentication and want to administer my group
memberships within XWiki.
The problem is, that I only have XWikiAdminGroup and XWikiAllGroup. I want to
have a third group EditGroup where I put users who are allowed to edit pages. On
the XWikiPreferences page I try to add a group and a modal dialog pops up. But
after giving the group name and pushing the Create-button, nothing happens. The
dialog does not close and it seems that actually no HTTP Request is sent to the
server. Pushing the cancel button closes the dialog but - of course - no group
is created.
Hope somebody can give me any hints.
Thanks in advance

Hi anyone!
Here is my transcript of trying to find out something about XWikis quaility.
1. I started at the home page.
Hey looks quite good. Not too much info, main "Products" presented well,
good navigation.
Looks promising.
2. So take a look at the Products presented so prominent.
Well done. Good overview about the products.
3. So what problems do people have with XWiki, lets take a look at the FAQ.
What the ****?
We want to use Wiki for structuring Information and XWiki itself does
not get a simple FAQ right?
(Compare thet to http://ant.apache.org/faq.html)
Hmm... maybe they got overwhelmed lately?
No, latest changes date back to March of 2009.
1. The "F" in FAQ stands for "frequently", so a split betwenn FAQ and
QA may be useful.
2. 204 Questions without any structuring? (compare to e.g. the ant
link above)
3. 73 unanwered FAQs?
OK, so the XWiki don't care much for questions and usability?
Hmmm can't believe that, lets try more.
3. So what does it feel to use xwiki? Any sandbox or demo available?
Hey great, main navigation contains a "Playground", lets give it a try.
Reading ... "second generation" (sounds promising) and "how to start"
(they guide me, good!).
So lets start.
"Configuring your wiki by clicking on the 'Administration' link at the
top right."
Hmm, no "Administration link", only "Log-In" and "Register".
Any info on the Log-In-Page? No.
Does "demo"/"demo" work? No.
Any info on the Playground-Startpage? No.
Hey there is a "sandbox"-Space, lets dig. Hmm, no way to edit, just
Menus "Show" and "Print".
Maybe problems due to a brand new update? Hmm.
Need to register? Lets try.
"This will allow you to edit pages, once the admin gives you appropriate
rights." OK, lets try nevertheless.
4. While waiting for the mail, lets explore the playground via "Quick
Links".
Index - Hmmm, velocity errors and endless "Loading" ...
What's New - RSS Included and my Registration is in, too. Looks good.
Hmm Adminstrator changed XWikiPreferences, maybe the cause of my problems?
Taking a look at the page.
"To edit preferences, please use the Administration page. " - If I only
could ...
Blog - Lets add an Article - OK, needs Log-in. No Registration-EMail yet :-/
Calendar - just some velocity code on the page, no calendar. :-(
Photo-Album - Yeah someone managed to upload a photo.
Tags - "To tag a document, edit it and enter the tags". OK, later. (No
Registration-EMail yet)
2 of 6 give errors right awy, hmmm gets disappointing.
5. While waiting for the mail, lets explore the playground via "What's New".
Mail - Error number 4001 in 4: Error while parsing velocity page
XWiki.Mail Wrapped Exception: Failed to evaluate content with id Mail
JavaScriptExtension - Hmmm looks pretty empty the page, can't figure out
what it is good for.
StyleSheetExtension - Same here. Maybe thats part of the extensability,
but where would I find Information about the Extension and how to use it?
(The Information-Tab on he page does not help me.)
AllDocs - Hmms same as "Index", yeah it's the same page, so does not work.
TreeView - even more empty than the Extension-Pages
TableView - some endless loading, got bored after 2 minutes waiting for
"loading" to complete.
Hmmm, not much Information for a "wiki".
My question to the xwiki users mailing list and the xwiki team.
Does that represent typical xwiki experience?
Does that represent the quality of care of the xwiki developers?
Is it worth downloading xwiki and spending more time digging into it?
Somewhat disappointed but not totally scared (yet :-),

my name ist Lutz Griesbach and i'd like to participate in the myxwiki
Farm project.
I'm an IT-consultant implementing several wiki installations at
customers (confluence, mediawiki, dokuwiki and even Tiddly...) and
would like to evaluate xwiki, and see, if it can extend my portfolio.
At first sight, it looks promising, but i'd like to get in touch
without having to initially install it myself.
The admin user should named 'elgonzo' as well as the the URL prefix,
if that is possible.
Thank you very much!
Lutz Griesbach

Hi
Two issues with PDF export. Might be similar to already reported issue
(http://n2.nabble.com/Page-convert-PDF-error-occurs-tc3261515.html#a3261
515)
But there is no advice on this issue.
1.
I've tried to export all documents from my space (Scenarios) to PDF
http://patternlanguagenetwork.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/export/Scenarios/Web
Home?format=pdf&includechilds=1&pagebreak=1
This didn't work as expected. Crated PDF did not contain any document
content, just class property names.
When exporting individually each document things seam OK, but I would
like all documents from Scenario space in one PDF.
2.
In a different space called Patterns even export of individual documents
fails
http://patternlanguagenetwork.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/export/Patterns/Pape

Any way of exporting a space content to PDF??
Do I need to create a PDF template?

Hi xwiki-users,
Just wondering - does the "jars" parameter work for the groovy macro?
Tried executing something simple with no luck:
{{groovy jars="attach:Main.WebHome@blah.jar"}}
import blahblah...
println(Blah.class.getName())
{{/groovy}}
Always throws a ClassNotFoundException (even tho the class exists in
the JAR file) :-( Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Thanks in
advance!

Hi again,
Is there a way to programmatically get a list of all arguments in an HTTP request?
I know you can access each argument if you know its name (e.g., request.confirm), but
is there a way to get a container of all provided arguments?
Thanks,
-Joshua-
Hi,
I am interested in having a wiki hosted at myxwiki.org for personal purpose,
like daily blogging regarding my discoveries using XWiki, velocity etc.,
some testing using the XWiki platform.
The username for administration should be FlaviusOlaru.
The domain should be flavius. (flavius.myxwiki.org).
PS: I am currently employed at XWiki Offices in Iasi.

Hi Jean-Vincent and Roman,
First of all, thanks for your fast replies!! Sandbox works great but I would
need admin rights and I installed the windows installer but here I don't
have a servlet container :( .
I will explain my case. I have to develop or integrate a wiki in a whole
university but I have too many technical restrictions. I have seen many
wikis and I think xWiki fits us perfectly but I need to know if it lets me:
- Store pages in File System.
We have a large amount of data in database, and we need to save pages in
filesystem. I have read about JcrStore, is that up to me?
- Integrate Authentification with CAS Server (SSO)
I have read about possible ways to do this, but I would like to know if
someone has done it, because we have to take a decision soon.
Maybe this mail fits better in the developers mailing list, sorry!!
Thanks

Hi all,
I am running XWiki 2.0 on a path based farm. Using it for a while with a local admin user the pull down menus disappears, i.e. I am able to click the "edit, create ..." menus but there are now pull down menus available.
I am following a strength procedure after that:
- login to the main XEM wiki (user Admin) - the menus are back
- navigate to the farm wiki
- logout and login again using the local admin
Now the menus are available again.
Thanks
mb
Hi xwiki-users,
One small quirck with the 2.0 release - when I try something like this:
{{box title="{{info}}test{{/info}}"}}this is a test{{/box}}
the output becomes a bit screwey... Parts of the {{info}} tag gets added to
the content of the box instead of into the title. It does work when the
{{info}} is escaped properly:
{{box title="~{~{info~}~}test~{~{/info~}~}"}}this is a test{{/box}}
but the WYSIWYG editor doesn't escape these (and it would make things look a
bit nicer if we didn't have to escape on properly-quoted parameters.. with
the obvious exception of a double-quote inside a quoted-parameter :-)).
So... what should the right behavior be?

The XWiki development team is pleased to announce the release of XWiki
Enterprise 1.9.4 and XWiki Enterprise Manager 1.7.4.
Go grab it at http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download
This release is targeted to users who are not yet ready to upgrade to
the more recent 2.0.x releases, but who still need some of the more
important recent fixes and improvements.
Improvements since XWiki Enterprise 1.9.3:
* XWIKI-4139 : New {{formula}} macro for displaying mathematical expressions
Important fixes:
* XWIKI-4309 : Links fail to open in a new window
* XWIKI-4249 : . key acts like the delete key at the end of the list items
* XWIKI-4349 : Livetable "avatar", "photos" and "attachments"
columns do not work
* XWIKI-4385 : NPE in XWikiDocument.CopyDocument() introduced by
the patch of XWIKI-4283
* XWIKI-4314 : Switching the editor tabs without focusing the rich
text area can lead to HTML in the source editor
* XWIKI-4170 : Wrong encoding in ApplicationResources_pt.properties
* XWIKI-4283 : XWikiDocument.copyDocument duplicate the object's uniques ids
For more information see the Release notes at:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise194
and http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ReleaseNotesXEM174
Thanks,
JV.
Hello,
I'm building a migration to LDAP page for my company on one XWiki 2.0
RC1 instance.
For this I need to list all users registered in.
I used the following code to list users:
for(u in xwiki.wrapDocs(xwiki.searchDocuments(", BaseObject obj where
obj.name = doc.fullName and obj.className = 'XWiki.XWikiUsers' and
doc.fullName <> 'XWiki.Admin' and doc.fullName <> 'XWiki.TEST' and
doc.fullName <> 'XWiki.dummy'"))) {
...
}
That looks good, most of my users are listed.
But at least one user is missing: one user register as JDOE one time
and one other time as jdoe
So there are two John Doe users: XWiki.jdoe and XWiki.JDOE but my loop
only find JDOE and not jdoe
What it is wrong in my request?
Arnaud.
Hi Community,
I am sorry bothering you. However I am using the task manager application in a production environment, therefore I have to decide about staying on several single wikis or consolidating them in a farm.
Is there anybody available instructing me to find that bug?
I am quite familiar writing code in general; however I haven't done something in Java, eclipse or xwiki yet. Therefore I would appreciate a link to some useful code snippet as well.
Thanks for now and in advance
mb

Hello!
I want to hide some elements of wiki users (but accessible for administrator) :
-> The history tab, information and attachments to pages. Only tab comment must be accessible.
-> The "recent changes" to the main.dashboard (or then simplify to see only the records created and updated without avatars or attachments).
-> Spaces "shelduler", "stat", "xwiki" and "panel"
thanks for your help !

Hi,
I'm working on a non-profit organization and I want to install xwiki, but
first I need to test all features in order to see if it fits to us.
Admin username: LuisLuis
Domain name prefix: prueba
Thanks!!!
Hello,
I have just created the jira task "XWIKI-4375":
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-4375
<description>
As you probably know the Ubuntu team has starter the project "One
Hundred Paper Cuts": https://launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts
They define a paper cut as (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut):
* a bug, or an unintended problem occurring within an existing piece
of software,
* the presence of which makes a computer more difficult or less
pleasant to use,
* that is easy to fix,
* that the average user would encounter during his/her first day of
using
XWiki is a great software but it contains also a lot of "paper cuts".
Such little but annoying bugs or usability issues would be a great entry
point for new xwiki developers, because they are easy to fix. But also
experienced xwiki commiters could relax fixing this paper cuts after
their hard work ;)
The proposal would be to start a similar task/project for identifying
paper cuts in xwiki. Related jira issues could be just linked to this
jira task."
</description>
I have already linked one paper cut to this jira task - XWIKI-3335.
Any feedback would be very appreciated.
Best regards,
Roman
Hi XWiki Devs & Users,
It's roadmap time again!
Based on the previous roadmap, feedback on the lists and the results of the
survey we conducted (see
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Blog/Features+Survey+Results ), here's a
list of stuff we might want to work on in the XE 2.1 timeframe which will
last approximately until December 2009:
IMPROVEMENTS
On top of the usual bugfix work, here's a list of improvements we might want
to bring in the course of the release in order to stabilize the 2. branch as
much as we can:
- Colibri skin
- Clean the skin so that it's no longer a pile of code added on top of
Toucan
- Improve the ColorTheme page (theme catalog, theme creation)
- WYSIWYG editor
- Test and improve IE8 compatibility
- Test and improve Chrome / Safari compatibility
- Add more translations
- Rendering
- Internationalize
- Add translations
- Conversion to 2.0 syntax
- XAR 2.0 (notably Blog & Panels)
- Office importer
- The application shouldn't be displayed when the office server is not
running
- Wiki macros
- Textarea should be larger
- Importer
- Make the import create new versions of existing pages instead of
overwriting them
- *Search (one of the most asked for features in the survey)*
- Fix the bugs with our Lucene Search implementation to make it the
default one
- Finish implementing the new search UI
- Performance (one of the most asked for features in the survey)
- Clean and apply Denis Gervalle's patch related to attachment upload
memory handling
- Clean and apply Caleb James DeLisle's patch related to document
loading
- Keep working on making the skin lighter
- Other?
- User Profile UI
- Improve the watchlist UI
- Make the user profile look clearer
NEW FEATURES
We won't have the time to work on all of them, but here's a list of new
features we might want to consider working on:
- Skin -> revamp / move the action bar
- CAPTCHA Integration -> make CAPTCHAS available on login / comments
- Application Manager -> create applications descriptors, ability to
version applications
- Document Type Manager -> make XClass & application creation easy
through a nicer UI
- Invitation Manager -> make it easier to add users to the wiki (send an
email allowing account creation)
- Multipage Management tools -> create and export lists of pages
Feedback is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks,
Guillaume

Hi There,
I'm starting to explore use of XWiki for a project where we want to
provide a domain-specific semi-structured wiki which seems like it ought
to be a good fit to XWiki's intended usage. However, we're having a bit
of trouble getting started understanding what can and can't easily be
captured in the XWiki data model. Specifically:
1- What is the recommended way to specify object fields that contain
references to other XWiki objects?
2- What is the recommended way to specify object fields that contain
references to non-XWiki plain old Java objects?
3- Is there a standard way to define fields as holding ordered/unordered
lists/sets of objects as opposed to single objects?
4- Assuming we can define models that allow for these sorts of things,
are there easy/standard ways to display such fields contents, as well as
ways for end-users to specify fillers (e.g. list/tree pickers of
existing objects of the desired type)?

Greetings,
I would like to add a "Browse..." button to a macro like the one in the Image dialogue that lets the users choose a directory. Is there a way to do this using macros in wiki pages, or do I need to write Java?
Thanks.

Hi all,
I am running xwiki 2.0 in a path based farm. The logout button works for the main wiki only. Any hints?
I found an old jira error - already solved?

Hi xwiki-users,
I just have to say... Thank you to the Dev team for such a great XWiki 2.0
release! XWiki is the best wiki I've ever encountered - the ideas in it
have really shown what Java + open source libs can achieve. The result is
purely extraordinary! Thank you so much for such a great piece of software!
Now to the real stuff - I was trying to migrate my XWiki 1.x macro to 2.0.
But, it seems something has changed within the bean converter and now
Booleans on MacroParameters have to be specified with a getX(), rather than
a isX() (which is JavaBeans convention). I haven't digged into the code,
and changing my macro to use getX() fixed the issue, but... 1) it would be
nice if the bean converter supported the conventional JavaBeans syntax
and... 2) it would be nice if XWiki threw some exception (or logged an
exception) if the parameter could not be converted properly (not sure if
it's just my log level, but digging out the issue would've been easy if
there were logs).
But again, really appreciate the great release, looking forward to further
development on this wonderful software!

Hello all,
I enjoyed perusing the Features Survey Results, and I have a related request. I'm looking for the major XE and Platform contributors to give their opinions on which features absolutely must be fixed / added within a reasonable amount of time. I'm already aware of one-- easy deletion of class properties. Are there any others that a potential contributor could try to fix that are biggers challenges than Paper Cuts, but are still managable?
Thanks,
Joshua
Just checking out the new 2.0 enterprise XWiki, great job! I'm just
wondering why you are using hsqldb in the standalone version rather
than h2 (http://www.h2database.com/html/main.html). H2 is in pretty
much every way an improved version over hsql and I've been very
impressed with its speed. Have you considered switching over and if
you decided against it, I'd be interested in hearing the reasons. If
you haven't considered it yet, I'll open an issue for it.

The idea was to have a common color and blue is more general accepted. It's
very hard to find a strong color to fit other variation, without using
non-colors (grays, black, white). Not to mention how difficult is to find a
color theme, that would make anyone happy :)

Hi xwiki-users,
I've been playing with this new Wiki Macros stuff (this stuff is superb!),
but I've got one question. In a conventional 2.0 Java Macro, I can inject
things like DAOs and AccessBridges (like DocumentAccessBridge). Is this
possible using the new Wiki Macros (for example, how can I inject a
DocumentAccessBridge into a Groovy class defined within the Wiki Macro? Is
there a static ComponentManager that can perform lookups())?
Again, great great great work with XWiki 2.0!

Hi all,
I'd like to consolidate all my wikis in a farm. However exporting it from a stand alone wiki to a farm wiki leads to "link errors", example: The import result
[[A>>xwiki:sk01-Test.A||title="A"]]
"xwiki" is my main wiki, so it points from the farm wiki to the main XEM wiki ...
I need "[[A>>sk01-Test.A||title="A"]]" only.
I found this error within "normal pages" and within the parent <-> child relation.
I there anybody having any ideas / hints?
Kind regards
mb
By the way: I am following xwiki since a 1.7 version (at least) and it's really great to see the 2.0 improvements.

Hi XWikiers,
as promised I posted a blog article listing the results of the XWiki
Features Survey. You can read it here:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Blog/Features+Survey+Results
We'll use the results during the discussion about the XE 2.1 roadmap.
I've also included the original result files for the data crunchers among
you to play with ;-)
Thanks a lot to all of you who took part to the survey!

I'm sure we have users that are good at colors too!
Would someone like to propose a theme for xwiki.org (or one of its
sub-sites) ?

Hi,
Since we're upgrading xwiki.org to 2.0 it would be nice to use the new
colibri skin.
So who can design nice and unique color themes for xwiki.org?
Thanks
-Vincent

One of our spaces has parenthesis in its name. That has created problems with the use of the URL , which contains (e) symbols.
I tried to rename the space, unsuccessfully it delete it so I rolled back.
Is there a way to change a space's URL ?

Is there a possibility to associate style information with the new toc macro?
Tried

{{toc start="5"/}}
and get
Not an inline macro
Thanks

Hello,
The spaces list ($xwiki.getSpaces()) appears to be unsorted in 2.0 RC2. I upgraded my WAR from 1.9.3. Is this known and, if so, is there a workaround?
Thank you,
Joshua
Hi XWikiers,
I know some of you regularly update translations for languages on
http://l10n.xwiki.org/ . I've just refreshed the list of translations, which
created a slew of new empty strings :-)
It would be great if we could fill as much of them as possible before
releasing XWiki Enterprise 2.0. I'll handle the French ones.
You can find empty translations for your language on
http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XE/XWikiCoreResources
Thanks in advance for your help,
Guillaume

Hi,
After Vincent made my mouth water today at the Jazoon, I wanted to try
XWiki but I could get the FAQTutorial to work with the 1.9 release
(xwiki-enterprise-installer-generic-1.9-standard.jar). Specifically:
After I enter the two strings "FAQs" and "FAQ" in the text fields, I get
this text in the editor:
## replace Main with the Space where you want your documents to be created
## replace the default parent with the one of your choice
## Save this template using the 'Save' button
#set( $class = $doc.name.substring(0,$doc.name.indexOf("Class")))
#set($defaultparent = "XWiki.${class}Class")
#set($defaultweb = "Main")
#includeForm("XWiki.ClassSheet")
This looks good. After save&view, I see this:
replace Main with the Space where you want your documents to be created
replace the default parent with the one of your choice
Save this template using the 'Save' button
#set( $class = $doc.name.substring(0,$doc.name.indexOf("Class"
#set($defaultparent = "XWiki.${class}Class")
#set($defaultweb = "Main")
#includeForm("XWiki.ClassSheet")
Note how the formatting is completely broken and that some ")" are
missing. When I open the page for editing, I see this:
## replace Main with the Space where you want your documents to be created
## replace the default parent with the one of your choice
## Save this template using the 'Save' button
#set( $class = $doc.name.substring(0,$doc.name.indexOf("Class"##
#set($defaultparent = "XWiki.${class}Class")
#set($defaultweb = "Main")
#includeForm("XWiki.ClassSheet")
As you can see, there is suddenly an empty line, the ")))" have been
replaced with "##" and the whole thing doesn't work. When I get rid of
the Comments near the start and just leave this code:
#set( $class = $doc.name.substring(0,$doc.name.indexOf("Class")))
#set($defaultparent = "XWiki.${class}Class")
#set($defaultweb = "Main")
#includeForm("XWiki.ClassSheet")
that gets mangles as well:
#set( $class = $doc.name.substring(0,$doc.name.indexOf("Class"
#set($defaultparent = "XWiki.${class}Class")
#set($defaultweb = "Main")
#includeForm("XWiki.ClassSheet")
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Oh, and when starting XWiki for the first time, I get this exception:

Hi xwiki users,
I have a problem setting an object date property from a String.
The code I am doing is :
($startDate is a string I got from the request)
#if($context.getUser()!="XWiki.XWikiGuest")
#set($releaseDoc=$xwiki.getDocument("Project.${releaseid}"))
#set($releaseObj=$releaseDoc.getObject("XWiki.ReleaseClass"))
$releaseObj.set("startDate",$datetool.toDate($startDate))
$releaseDoc.save()
${releaseObj.startDate}
#else
NoRight
#end
This piece of code is placed on the Skin Object and I call it using Ajax
(I use an InPlaceEditor from scriptaculous)
What I got in result from this is NoRight if I am not connected but a
wiki page with this template does not exist if i am logged in. I don't
understand what is missing.
I tried using Groovy, but I got the Groovy code in response, it was not
executed.
If someone can point out my error, I am all heard.
Thanks in advance

Hi XWiki Community,
I'm happy to share some good news for the XWiki Platform and Community
that we got today.
We (XWiki SAS) had responded to a French Government Call for Web 2.0
Projects in early July and we got the good news today that our project
was selected with 43 other projects (among 340 proposals) to receive
state funding.
In this project, where the research entity INRIA/ECOO and Open Source
company Mandriva are also participating, we have proposed to enhance
XWiki's social features and integrate Real-Time capabilities in XWiki
(both for editing information and viewing information in real-time).
We already worked with INRIA/ECOO on XWiki Concerto (offline and mobile
XWiki) which is the specialist in France and probably Europe of
Operational Transformation Technology (which is used in Google Wave for
real-time capabilities).
We'll talk more about the features this will bring to XWiki when we
formally launch the project. We don't know yet how fast it will go to
formalize the public funding and start the project (it usually takes at
least a few month).
It's great to be able to continue to work on innovative technologies in
the Wiki space, which is not that easy as we have already so much work
to package and polish all the great ideas and features that are already
in the XWiki platform.
It's also great to see the progress the XWiki software has made in the
last year, from XWiki 1.8 to XWiki 2.0 coming out soon. The new
rendering, new Wysiwyg editor, the Office Importer and now the new skin
are making XWiki do a lightyear of progress in just one year !

Dear all
we're having problems here with authenticating users against a Windows 2003 active directory.
Our users are located in different OU (organisational units) in the active directory
So i followed the instructions in
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Authentication
unfortunatelly without success.
My searchuser as all rights and is perfectly working with OTRS (www.otrs.org)
Here in xWiki, only users in one organisational unit are found?!
For all other users I'm getting the errormessage: user not found
Please find the config attached
Who can help please?
Greetings

Hi all,
Just a hint: Using the new colibri skin warps the task manager application pages. So I am still using the default skin.
Is this a problem of the skin or a task manger application issue?
I was trying to add an example, however it seams to be blocked by the mail system ...
(Windows XP, Firefox 3.5.3)
Thanks

Hi,
I' running Xwiki (XWiki Enterprise 1.9.3.22597) on a windows machine with Tomcat 5.5.28 and MySQL 5.1. I've also installed openoffice 3.1.1 and have it run as a service with the command 'soffice -headless -accept="socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=8100;urp;" -nofirststartwizard'. Still XE can not start/connect to the server. I've checked and changed de xwiki.properties file, but no changes are picked up by XE. Anyone, who can help me get this thing to work?
Thanks
Paul
Hello,
I'm a newbie with XWiki and I'm mostly experimenting with it so see if and
how we could use it internally.
I'm running XWiki 1.9.3.22597 on Tomcat6 with Fedora 11/MySQL 5.1.37 and had
encountered no particular problem except that I have to launch and run the
OpenOffice server externally on a regular account because it would not start
when launched by XWiki. I suspect it's a memory access right issue because
launching manually from the tomcat account I get this
-sh-4.0$ /usr/bin/soffice -headless
-accept=socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=8100;urp; -nofirststartwizard
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
creation of executable memory area failed: Permission denied
It's just the way the tomcat account is set I believe. (Seeing no xwiki
user, I assume xwiki is using the tomcat account to launch soffice).
I have 3 x questions regarding XWiki:
1) We want to use 'spaces' (no virtual XWiki) to create boundaries
between what users can see. I have created Space A, User A and configured
access rights so that User A can access Space A only. The problem is that
when User A log into XWiki, XWiki returns and error message because User A
tries to land on the main page =>
a. Can we configure XWiki so that User A automatically lands on Space
A when login ? If yes, how ?
b. I assume also that performing a search User A will not be able to
see anything out of his user space A. Right ?
2) I have made a quick Groovy/SQL test polling a rather large table out
of an external database and displaying the result into HTML on XWiki.
Scrolling down the dynamically generated XWiki HTML table, I suddenly got
into a black hole or let's say the end of the XWiki web page =>
a. What is the way in XWiki to control the maximum length/size (or
maximum characters ?) of a Web page ?
3) Is it possible to programmatically add pages into Xwiki based on the
content of an external database. The idea here is to run a script (via Xwiki
scheduler ?) to pull records out of an external database. For each (new)
record, then a new XWiki page would be created which users could edit to
bind their own additional pieces of information. When a database record is
deleted, the corresponding XWiki pages would be move to the 'gone' space.
Many Many thanks for your help and for providing us such a powerful tool.
Regards,
Christobald.
Hi,
Sorry if I'm missing something but, how can I change the ColorTheme of the
Colibri skin?
Is it possible to change the theme on a Space level?
Also, I'd like to congratulate on the new skin. It's light and clean,
perfect as the default skin for the wiki, and a perfect starting point for a
custom skin.
Thanks
Hi all,
I've tried to install all available versions of xoffice for Word 2003, adding the trusted site ... - the installation reports "successfully". However I couldn't see any added functionality using it (starting MS Word) - no new menu, no added toolbar ...
May I kindly ask for a hint?
Thanks

I've made my own upload form because I need to intercept an upload and
save it different places at once, potentially resize it in the process.
Essentially I use the fileupload plugin. Grep the data and use the
$doc.addAttachment(filename, byte[]) function.
I do however run into trouble. First It all goes fine, I can upload
fine and the attachment is present in both document. But after some
time it simply disappears. Ether it is not saved correctly (only in
cache?) or something else is terribly wrong.
Do I need to call some kind of save function?
In the admin dashboard I can see that I made some new documents and
uploaded files to them. But on the Document itself there doesn't seem to
be history of when the file was uploaded, nor a option to role back.
So any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Here is the attachment saving part of the code (don't mind the file
naming code it works!):
#set( $up = $xwiki.getPlugin("fileupload"))
#set( $wallCardData = $up.getFileItemData(
$wallCardName.toLowerCase() ) )
#if($listtool.size($wallCardData) > 0)
#set( $ext =
"#fileextension($up.getFileName($wallCardName.toLowerCase()))")
## Store the original file in XWiki.WallCards as
<Space>-<Page>-<Filename>
#set( $oriFileName =
"${doc.getSpace()}-${doc.getName()}-$wallCardName$ext" )
#set( $oriatt = $xwiki.getDocument( $oriFileDocument
).addAttachment($oriFileName,
$up.getFileItemData($wallCardName.toLowerCase()) ) )
#set( $att = $doc.addAttachment( "$wallCardName$ext",
$up.getFileItemData($wallCardName.toLowerCase())) )
#end

Help will be really appreciated.
Thanks
Dear all,
I have been struggling with lining out a table onder a numbering.
For example, I have numbers 1-5 (in the referred to as 1.).
When I create a table in the WYSIWYG editor, under lets say 2, at first
sometimes this goes right, and the table is indented in the same way
that text is (the expected behaviour).
Sometimes when I change something on the page the table is suddenly no
longer indented, resulting in the next number (3) changing to 1.
I have not been able to make the table indent again, nor have I been
able to fix the numbering.
I found a related issue on Jira, but it seems this did not fix the issue
I encounter:
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3090
and :
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3089
Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone know a fix?
We are running Xwiki 1.9.3.22597.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I was just wondering how can I define a class in xwiki, and use it on a page in order to create a structured page.
My intention is to define a set of structured pages so I can use the livetable macro.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards
