hi all
what is the power of XWiki that no one have
1. I see that XWiki is Wiki 2.0 and it is more than media wiki, esp in
integration and modular. but when will forge.xwiki and any idea to
extend?
2. XWiki is look like Confluence competitor, is that right?

Hi guys,
anyone a suggestion what I can do here? I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812935
It actually only relates to IE6 but it occurs here also with IE7. I
found some PHP sites suggestion for developers having the same problem
to set som header options: http://downside.ch/blog/?p=26
Any idea, what can be done in XWiki to solve this? Can you even
reproduce it? I didn't find anything on Jira.
Many Thanx.
Cheers,
Sebastian
Hello XWiki users,
Are XWiki release tags accessible by the community, or just the trunk? I
wanted to checkout 1.8.2 release sources, but can not find tags anywhere in
the http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/ tree.
Regards,
Stevo.
Morning everyone,
The title of this topic may have surprised you but I'll explain what I mean
by that :-). I'm now working with XE 1.8.2.
In this http://n2.nabble.com/Export-Spaces-td2723943.html post , we can see
an example of an "application" which works in xwiki syntax 1.0 but not in
xwiki syntax 2.0. The thing is, in order to make this "application" work
again, we have to translate it from 2.0 to 1.0. Basically, we can have users
who wants to translate "applications" they programmed in Xwiki syntax 2.0 =>
the result of the translation doesn't work => They've to translate it
manually from 2.0 to 1.0.
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.
PS : Which pieces of code in this
http://n2.nabble.com/Export-Spaces-td2723943.html application don't work in
xwiki syntax 2.0 ??

Hi,

wiki.
Given to another user (that has already connect in), the link works

The wiki exists. After login the message is that the user has no right
to view the page

But in this case why after deleting local profile on the main wiki and
asking the user to connect on the virtual wiki, everything goes fine
(able to see and no admin rights) ? I did not change rights before
deleting.
I checked the rights space and the rights page and there is no
restriction. On the main wiki, only unregistered users have restriction
(no edition)

Hello,
I have a strange thing in my wiki farm. I sent to a user (that never used any wiki) a link to a page in one of my virtual wikis.
The first thing he is able to see is a login window on the main wiki (even if there is no access restriction on the page)
After log in the system he comes back on the page with a message saying he has no right to access the page but the "administrate" menu is available (and he is not one of the administrators). In the local users of the virtual wiki i am not able to see him. In the global i can (i guess that's ok as he logged in the main wiki)
I went on the main wiki, i deleted his local profile and asked him to go on the main page of the virtual wiki and click on the login link (of the virtual wiki). He is now able to see the page discussed previously and no more administrate menu is displayed (everything is fine)
Is there any restriction about the method users have to connect and identify them the first time ?

Hey everybody,
We recently upgraded our company's XWiki from version 1.2 to 1.8. To keep
the migration as comfortable as possible for our users (and to save some
work), we decided to export not only the contents but also the user
accounts and rights settings (i.e. the whole 'XWiki' space) of the old
version, and import them into the new version.
Doing so brought up a problem we couldn't solve: After importing the
XWiki.xar, it is impossible to change the group settings (edit group
members...) using the dialog that opens when clicking the 'edit' symbol
(the pen on the right). Instead, we have to use the 'edit objects'
functionality to manually edit the group members.
Moreover, creating a new group using the 'add new group' dialog, the newly
created group exists, but doesn't show up in the list of groups as long as
it hasn't got any members.
Does anyone of you know how to solve that problem? Any help would be
appreciated.
Best regards,
Sascha
Say thanks to someone of the website of itaca where i found the source code ;-)

Hi Christophe,
First of all, thanks for this quick answer :-). Your code works well in
order to save a whole space.
There is one but : it only works with Xwiki 1.0. In XE 1.8.1, the conversion
of your code in Xwiki2.0 doesn't work. It must be a problem whith macros you
use in it.
Anyway, thanks for all, it really helps me.
Hesediel.

Hi everyone,
I've tried another solution in order to solve my problem of exporting a few
spaces/pages. The solution is to use the API in xwiki. In order to import a
few pages, I modify the url like this :
export/Panels/SpaceName?format=xar&name=Panels.v1&pages=Panels.Panels%E8&pages=Panels.Panels2%E8
With that, I've a xar containing the folder Panels and the file package.xml.
In the folder Panels, I have my two pages and there is no problems to import
them in xwiki.
My question is : Which argument have I to set in order to save a whole space
? I've tried spaces but it didn't work.
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.

Hi everyone,
I've noticed one thing about WYSIWYG 2.0 (the editor used when the page
syntax is xwiki2.0) : we don't have the option to merge the cells. In
WYSIWYG 1.0, we had the possibility to do this.
Is this functionnality abandonned ?
Another thing, in WYSIWYG 1.0 we had the possibility to do that BUT it
didn't work : when we "validated" the creation/edition of our page, the
table didn't display the same way as it was displaying on WYSIWYG 1.0 (for
merge cells).
I didn't know if I had to post a Jira minor bug for this (if the
functionnality is abandonned for WYSIWYG 2.0, there's no interests to do
that).
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.

Hi,
I'm a new XWiki user, and I've just noticed that comments made to pages
don't appear in the "Recent Changes" section, unless I select "Show minor
edits". Is there any way to make comments "normal" edits? This is quite
inconvenient since comments are an important part of my wiki. Any help is
much appreciated!
Hello,
Is there a way to have different quicklinks displayed depending on which

Thanks.

We've been making copies of spaces via export for documentation translation.
We export the space, explode the xar, edit the package.xml and run a
find/replace on the contents to the new space name before
re-packing/importing back in. This generally works well preserving
relations, etc within the content.
In your case you would want to delete the old space, of course.
Hope this is helpful.

Hello everyone,
I've got another question in order to create a customise xar. I want to save
the page layout of a space and the content of the right and left column.
Is it possible?
If yes, to do that, have I to add in the folder of my space (in the xar) the
page WebPreferences.xml ? (WebPreferences.xml linked to my space)
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.

Hi everyone,
First of all :-), I'm using XE 1.8.1 .
I have created news panels in order to do my "own" xwiki. In order not to
recreate these panels, I wanted to create a xar which contains a single
folder (Panels) containing the page relating to my new panels and a file :
package.xml.
My problem is : when I use the function Import in my XE to export my
"customised" xar, it uploads the file (.xar) but I can't really add it in
Xwiki. Does anyone see the reason ?
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.

inside it the two javascripts files attached to this page"
The page is missing attachments.
2. "Add the Export/Import utility to your v0.9 wiki (see also xwiki.js and
prototype.js attachments to this page). To perform this action log-in to
this site, choose to edit the page and copy/paste the code to a new page in
your v0.9 XWiki"
When I attempt this step, when I save or preview the code in my XWiki
0.9.840 server, I get this error:

Hello,
I am trying to move a space and all it's children pages to a different
space, which already exists and has content. If i move the space
Webhome1 to Webhome2 the contents of Webhome1 will become orphaned. Is
this possible without having to rename/move each page manually?
view/Webhome1/* -> view/Webhome2/Webhome1/*
Thanks.

Hi!
I want to retrieve some content from the web site (on the same domain
as XWiki) using groovy. I've already got success for not protected
site, but when the site requires username/password, then the script
fails. So I somehow need to pass already logged in XWiki user
credentials.
XWiki 1.6, configured LDAP authentication for AD.
Here's the script:
Best regards, Mike
Morning everyone :-),
After discussions in Jira about the same topic :
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3660 XWIKI-3660 and
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3657 XWIKI-3657 , I have tried the
application contriduted by Ludovic Dubost, which is supposed to aim to that
I want.
I've met several problems with it :
* Problem of view in Firefox : For more precisions about this, please go
to http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3660 XWIKI-3660 .
* Problem in the code :
It detects all my spaces but when I select one of them in the drop
down list, it doesn't work.
Tomcat says :
[ERROR] Left side ($action) of '==' operation has null value. If a
reference, it may not be in the context.
Operation not possible. Admin.Export [line 24, column 20].
It's not a problem about the xwiki syntax : it doesn't work with xwiki
syntax 1.0 and xwiki syntax 2.0.
Moreover, I've noticed this functionnality is needed since 2006. What's the
state of this application ? (Done/In Process/Abandonned/...)
Thanks in advance,
Hesediel.

Hi,
We are facing issue integrating XWiki against our enterprise LDAP
directories.
The fact is that we can't implement the LDAP group-mapping feature
(xwiki.authentication.ldap.group_mapping)
because xwiki tries to retrieve groups members using the xwiki
logged/authenticated user
who has no access right on the LDAP groups entries.
That's why we configured xwiki to use a "proxy" ldap account
(ldap_dn/ldap_pass) which has
the required access privileges to query the whole ldap.
But unfortunately, Xwiki binds first using this proxy account and
then binds again using the logged user credentials before
actually searching for the mapped groups members.
Please find below the ldap requests made by xwiki I caught using a network
sniffer tool:
1. xwiki binds against the ldap server using the "proxy" account
(bind_dn/bind_pass)
2. xwiki get all members of the "ldap.user_group" xwiki parameter (it works
since still connected with the proxy account)
3. xwiki binds using the credentials provided by the user
4. xwiki search for the user information (ldap.fields_mapping)
5. xwiki get the "ldap.group_mapping" members --> returns no entry
Unfortunatly we are not in charge of the ldap servers administration and we
are not able to change
their configuration and grant read access on the groups entries to all the
users.
Is there any parameter to force xwiki to perform ldap queries (expect to
authenticate the user) using the
proxy account (credential defined in ldap_dn/ldap_pass)?
XWiki should bind first using the users credential to authenticate the user
and then perform
all other required ldap requests using the proxy account.
We are currently evaluating the last stable release 1.8 (but applies to
previous release as well) and
group mapping feature is highly needed.
Any help will be greatly welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Laurent

Hi,
Since changing the security setting of Xwiki-space i'm a bit in
trouble...
The goal was to secure the xwiki.{username}, since we need to protect
the privacy of our users.
So I revoked the permision of Guests to xwiki space.
But since this I had problems, I can solve them one.by.one by granting
read access of a specific page to guest or group
Now the RSS FEED and notification of the watchlist does not work
anymore, I do not get notifications of changed pages.
How can I set a watchlist on a space? If somebody adds a page or
modifies a page I would like to get notified

Hi everyone,
Nowadays, to convert a document to xwiki 2.0, we have to select on the drop down list when we're editing a page, slecte xwiki 2.0. So to convert a page to xwiki2.0 syntax, the user (administrator or other) have to do this manipulation himself.
I was thinking when I read in Jira "Continue work on automatic converter from XWiki Syntax 1.0 to XWiki Syntax 2.0" that the user won't have to do the manipulation by himself anymore. But when I read more about this post, I understood it's not really the purpose, it's a improvement of the existing.
Is a "true" automatic converter to xwiki2.0 scheduled ? If yes, for which version of xwiki entreprise ? :-)
I mean by that to convert a page automatically in xwiki2.0 if it's in xwiki1.0 (the user has not to do it by himself).
The thing is I've implemented the basic xwiki xar in order to have my own xwiki. So in my newxwiki.xar, I have a core of pages using xwiki1.0 syntax and I have my new pages using xwiki2.0 syntax. To blend the syntax of all my pages in xwiki2.0 when I update my version of xwiki (1.8) will i need to :
* Solution 1
o Download a basic xwiki xar file using syntax 2.0.
o Recreate all my pages.
* Solution 2
o Import my xar file directly in the new xwiki version (the conversion should happen automatically).
I want to unify the syntax I'm using in my xwiki in order to simplify the life of my users/admistrators (because when you edit a page using xwiki1.0, you haven't the same WYSIWYG editor as the one you have when you edit a page using xwiki2.0 for example).

Hi,
I just updated to XWiki Syntax 2.0 (XWiki 1.8.1) and it looks like the
intermap syntax is not supported anymore. Is this correct? Will there be
a replacement?
Thanks

Hi everybody,
I have added a bit of example code on the date picker application page

No haven't.
I have now deployed the same .war file in both environments and the instance
running in Tomcat works fine with the rendering in the wysiwyg editor, but
the instance running in WAS environment does not. :-(

Hi again,
In making an edit on xwiki.org I noticed some strange behaviour and I am
hoping someone can help me solve it, or at least explain it.
What I wanted to do was post an example that involved some javascript
with a literal array inside, like:
dateFormat : {pre}[["dd","mm","yyyy"],"/"]{/pre}
So to include this in the page you would use
{code}
dateFormat : {pre}[["dd","mm","yyyy"],"/"]{/pre}
{code}
It appears though the the {pre} tags break the {code} macro, is there a
workaround or something I am missing here?

Hi list,
I have a really weird bug which is quite annoying and I don't find any
solution to it :
I want to edit a page in inline mode. I have a form to select the page
to edit with a button. I use the $xwiki.getURL() method to get the right
URL. When i select my page and click on the edit button, I have an
invalid URL error and i am deconnected. What is weird is that if I
reconnect and actualize the page I can access it. The second weird thing
is that I use exactly the same method to edit other pages form other
forms in the same first page and I do not have the problem. I am quite
lost with this issue. I tried to recreate the URL as a string but I have
the same problem.
I am thinking maybe this is a known bug in xwiki. If not maybe i am
missing something somewhere. Please open my eyes on the obvious i am
missing in my code :
<FORM method=POST action="">
<input type="hidden" name="backlog" value="${backlogId}" />
<input type="hidden" name="webname" value="Project" />
<input type="hidden" name="name" value="backlog" />
<input type="hidden" name="domain" value="${domainId}" />
<input type="hidden" name="cut" value="${cut}" />
Select topic : <SELECT name="topic">
#foreach ($item in $topiclist)
#set
($topic=$xwiki.getDocument(${item}).getObject("XWiki.TopicClass"))
<OPTION VALUE="${topic.id}">$topic.get("name")</OPTION>
#end
</SELECT>
<input type="button" value="Select"
onclick='{this.form.action="../../view/" + this.form.webname.value + "/"
+ this.form.name.value + "?backlog=" + this.form.backlog.value +
"&domain=" + this.form.domain.value + "&topic=" +
this.form.topic.value.substring(this.form.topic.value.lastIndexOf("${separator}")+1)
+ "&cut=" + this.form.cut.value; this.form.submit(); }'/>
<input type="button" value="Edit"
onclick='{url="Project."+this.form.topic.value;
this.form.action="${xwiki.getURL(url, "inline")}"; this.form.submit(); }' />
</FORM>
Note that the problem is only with the Edit button, the other is working
fine.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jean.

Hi,
I am using XWiki with external database with my own data. I am using SQL plugin.
When I run this simple script:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
#set ($mydb=$xwiki.sql.getDatabase("jdbc/xwiki_conference"))
$mydb.executeUpdate("UPDATE table SET title = 'ěščřžýáí' WHERE id = 1");
------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I get "?š??žýáí" saved in the database.
My web.xml and xwiki.cfg are set to UTF-8, database has utf8_general_ci as encoding.
What else should I change to save the characters properly?

Kind regards,

Hi,
I'm in the process of evaluating XWiki and I'm trying to integrate it
with our SSO.
I've so far written a class that extends XWikiAuthServiceImpl and I'm
seeing calls to checkAuth and showLogin, but I don't really understand
the logic behind those different calls. checkAuth seems to be called
very frequently with XWiki.XWikiGuest as the user even though I
returned a valid XWikiUser after the call that followed the
authentication.
Is there a document that explains what the different methods in
XWikiAuthService do and when they are called?
Any help or pointer would be appreciated.
Mathias.
Hello,
I´m looking for a dynamic 'Database List' at my Wiki.
I wan´t to select with the first 'Database List' the category and then
select multiple
items of sub categories in the second 'Database List'.
The second 'Database List' has to show the actual sub categories
dependent of the selected first 'Database List'.
Database:
+Category_1
|-Subcategory_1_1
|-Subcategory_1_2
|-Subcategory_1_3
|-Subcategory_1_4
+Category_2
|-Subcategory_2_1
|-Subcategory_2_2
|-Subcategory_2_3
|-Subcategory_2_4
+Category_3
.
.
.
.
I´m testing the 'Database Tree' but when multiselect is enabled I can
select items in all Categories.
Is there a possibility to realize this with standard classes?
Have I got to use a script like java script or something similar.
Have somebody an example or some information how to design this on a
xwiki database?
Thank you very much!

Hi,
I hope someone out there can help me with this very strange problem with the
editors.
I have WYSIWYG as the default editor, and have edited the xwiki.properties
and set xwiki/2.0 as default editor syntax.
Scenario:
I create a new page. Wysiwyg editor is default.
Editing the following content:
Heading 1
bold text
bold text
And saving.
It looks nice when viewing the new page, with "Title 1" formatting of the
heading line and bold text on the second and third lines.
But when I chose to edit the page again, the wysiwyg editor appears, with
the following faulty content:
= heading 1 = **bold text line 1** **bold text line 2**\\ \\
Hitting the Preview button from wysiwyg editor shows the same result, raw
xwiki/2.0 syntax, minus the original line breaks in the preview mode.
If I instead of preview change to the Wiki editor mode, the content is
escaped:
~= heading 1 = ~*~*bold text line 1~*~* ~*~*bold text line 2~*~*~\~\ ~\~\
And if cycling between the editors once more from there, even more escape
~ characters occur.
What am I doing wrong? config issue? or is this a bug? wysiwyg editor
appears not to be able to parse xwiki/2.0 syntax in 1.8.1?
Details:
* XWiki 1.8.1 stable
* WebSphere Application Server 6.1 fixpack 21
Kind regards,
Jonas
Hello,
I have just updated my version 1.6 Xwiki to the latest 1.8.1 and i
imported the new web XAR. The wiki is mostly functioning fine, however
some features are not displaying correctly.
: The calendar no longer displays, instead i get the following code shown:
---
$cparams.put("categories", $rqcategories)
$cview.getHTMLCalendar($cparams, "")
---
: Office imported does not display options correctly, instead i get:
---
xe.officeimporter.import.options
xe.officeimporter.import.filtering

: I also see the following error in tomcats log, but i believe this can
be safely ignored.

Hi everyone,
We've just found that XE 1.8.1 is having some GWT service
initialization issue in multiwiki mode. All applications using the
XWiki GWT service fail on XE 1.8.1 (in multiwiki mode only).
More specifically this will affects users in multiki mode and using
the new WYSIWYG editor or XWiki Watch (both using GWT Services).
For those users we recommend to wait for XE 1.8.2 which is planned for
early next week (week of the 20th of April).
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Niels,
Thanks for the extensive exposition on tooltips and breadcrumbs. Will concede the technical aspects are a bit whoa for me, but I'm confident the Xwiki developers will know what you're on about ;-)
Initial discussion topic was around ways to improve / provide a hierarchical page navigation tree, AFAIK no mention was made of tooltips - so that functionality may not even be on the agenda for Xwiki or I don't know at least. Its just that one of the developers mentioned an example page using Curriki to illustrate a point, so I gave some feedback round that.
I then visited said page and the tree navigation structure of it I quite like, it was the other 'features' that irritated me, so I put in my 0.03 in case the xwiki developers were thinking of doing something similar, so that they at least have 1 user input of hopefully what not to do.
I'm sure your input will be valuable to them as well,
I did look at your xwiki site and I see how you've done it - the first page of the space you have created a TOC for the docs in it, it appears. Of course that works, but what I was asking for was an xwiki generated space aware, tree like hierarchical nested wiki page navigation structure to this which fits in the navigation, recently modified, etc area of the xwiki browser page rather than me needing to occupy the space page with a TOC or provide hyperlinks elsewhere, etc.
Cheers
Hi
I normally edit my pages in the Wiki editor but to add links or images I use the WYSIWYG editor. Now having a code box like this:
{code}
- (BOOL) textFieldShouldReturn: (UITextField *) textField {
[self greetMe:nil];
return YES;
}
{code}
will turn into this:
{code}
- (BOOL) textFieldShouldReturn: (UITextField *) textField {
[self greetMe:nil];
return YES;
}
{code}
Any ideas why and how to workaround this problem.

Hi,
I'm testing an upgrade from XE 1.7M1 to XE 1.8.1 incl. XEM.
My environment:
JBoss 1.4.1, XE 1.8.1
No matter which Wiki page is addressed i got a few errors at console and server.log per page:
13:40:25,802 ERROR [BaseCollection] Failed to get class [internal] from wiki [xwiki]
java.lang.NullPointerException
Has someone the same problem?
Thanks,
Rudolf

Hi,
I have changed the layout from the default right column layout to left
column instead, and moved the panels from left to right.
It works fine until I choose to edit a page.
When in edit mode the left column dissapears and the right column suddenly
appears containing the following three panels:
* Choose Editor
* Document Information
* Help on the Xwiki syntax
How can I move these editor panels to the left?
One additional question:
Is is possible to edit .vm templates directly in the web browser?
Kind regards,
Jonas
Hi,
I just installed XWiki 1.8.1 in ubuntu 8.10 / tomcat 6 / MySQL 5.0. My ubuntu is in english language (administration / language support / default language), so is my LANG environment variable.
In my prefs by default I have language "en", multilingual "no". If I select "yes" for multilingual, page content is in english but all menus switch to french. Adding only "en" to the list of languages doesn't change this.
How can I have my wiki fully english by default with multilingual set and default language "en" ?
Thanks for help,
Jeremie

I've freshly installed XE 1.8.1 and am pleased to see that the email
registration process has been fixed.
I want to use XE for an admin wiki in a school environment and do not wish
to have students being able to register.
Ideally, I would like to have users self-register and then have to wait for
admin approval to activate account.
Is there anyway to do this with XE? Otherwise, what is the best strategy for
restricting user registration?
Thanks

Hi,
Is there a way, in a multi-language xwiki, to show a page in default
language (in our case English) if no translation of that page is
available in the language of the session the visitor is in. It now
show a empty page in all languages that do not (yet) have a
translation for a page?

Hi!
As the beginning I would like to say Hi! everyone, I'm new to XWiki.
I've read this guide:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/WritingComponents
I've got the main picture about this but how can I compile this component
(Should I?) and how can I include it in my XWiki installation?
So for example: I've make a HelloWorld component and I would like to use it
in a wiki page like this (using groovy):
<%
def greeter = com.xpn.xwiki.web.Utils.getComponent(org.xwiki.component.HelloWorld.ROLE);
println greeter.sayHello();
%>
How can I do that? What are the missing steps I need to do (currently i'm
having a directory with tree like this:
pom.xml
src/main/java/org/xwiki/component/HelloWorld.java
src/main/java/org/xwiki/component/internal/DefaultHelloWorld.java
src/main/resources/META-INF/plexus/components.xml
src/test/java/org/xwiki/component/HelloWorldTest.java
)?
Thanks for reading and your guidance!

Hi Ludovic,
Yes the hierarchical design used by Curriki would work for me, the layout is fine, but the implementation is a bit disconcerting, so if there is a way to work round the negative UI issues...
The aspects that I find are disconcerting and would be disorienting or frustrating for users with the example Curriki page is:
1. The noticeable lag between clicking on a tree link and the next level opening. My internet connection isnt *that* slow and I'd guess even at intranet speeds it would still be noticeable. Taking a guess maybe the page needs to have the tree/toc preloaded/cached to avoid this lag or some other approach, but the pregnant pause waiting for the toc/tree part of the screen to redraw is somewhat disconcerting.
2. Also the links themselves - one appears to need to click on a very specific location to get the link to open to the next level (and you know as well as I do that some users have trouble controlling their mice) - i.e. the little arrow, but if one clicks on the folder icon it also opens albeit slower, but if one goes a little bit further then one sees a popup tooltip obscuring the text and when one clicks on the text it goes to that linked page. Really its not immediately clear to a user what to click on to get the tree to open - if it works like Windoze (file) explorer then its probably an approach familiar to most GUI users. If you intend to implement tooltips IMO definitely include an option to disable them because power/frequent wiki users will get irritated by them quickly.
3. Maybe my eyes are being deceived by the very obvious screen refresh/redraw delay but it almost seems as if the web page contents moves up or down depending on which tree link one clicks on. IMO if the user expects a page to open then the menu must remain in a static position on the screen and the link they clicked on mustnt suddenly move a few cm up or down the screen because that is disorienting, rather leave it to the user to scroll up or down the page from their last viewing position if they want to.
If the xwiki team can work around the issues exhibited by Curriki, in their Xwiki implementation, I think it would be very usable.
I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts.
Thanks for your interest,
Cheers

Subject: Re: [xwiki-users] How to navigate user pages as tree structure from main page?
I'm currently working on some different ways to implement the breadcrumb
and a Table of Content on a project.
It's using some of the ideas that are currently implemented in Curriki.
See this example:

Hi,
Is there a explanation on how to set the rights on the xwiki space in
a site that has registration enabled.
If I disable view rights for "non registered" users on xwiki space the
site skin is no longer used
If I enable view rights on xwiki space, every non-registered visitor
can see PROFILE PAGES of registered users (they are in the XWIKI space)
How should I deal with this, probably a mistake in our software or a
mistake in Xwiki?
Gerritjan
Hi Lee,
I'm no expert on this by any means, but I suspect that removing the Admin page (I assume you mean the XEM main page) will cause you problems in that you would find it difficult-impossible to administer your created Wikis (i.e the wikis in your 'farm')
Why not just give your users the direct link to their wiki home page they want and leave the XEM wiki admin login for yourself.
In my case I havent setup host/domain names (the default XEM approach) so I am using the URL approach to get to my wiki home pages - i.e. the pages the users are going to see and work in.
So for me I use (assuming I'm at the server) I use custom port 8380 so you may need to change this your side, and of course the access IP as well.
http://127.0.0.1:8380/xwiki/bin/view/Main
gets me to the Welcome to Wiki administrator page - the farm management page
I then created ia 2 wikis - one called 'home' and the other 'projects' so now.
http://127.0.0.1:8380/xwiki/wiki/home
gets me to my first wiki of the farm - which I called home
http://127.0.0.1:8380/xwiki/wiki/home
gets me to the project specific wiki of the farm
---------
to get the above working requires about 3 line edits in xwiki.cfg
the docs for it are at http://manager.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/AccessWiki
---
Alternatively there is the host/domain approach where I could have something like
home.mydomain.local
or projects.mydomain.local
This is the default approach used by XEM. It looked to be a bit more RTFM to setup so I've skipped trying it for now.
See http://manager.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/AccessWiki#HThedomainnam…

I tried to upgrade my XE version to XEM. I got it working.
I setup 5 sites plus what I call the "control" site.
Everything seemed to be going well until Last night. One of the
Farm sites (1 of 5) is no longer displaying it's home page correctly. When I
type in it's url,
It displays the "control" site. The other 4 farm sites come up ok as usual.
How do I fix this? Is there some parameter someplace that identifies the
wiki site that is
The control site and which ones are farm sites?
Please advise.

Hi JV and Vincent
Fabulous to hear :-) Yes that's IMO useful as a "tree" index" and would also be workable but it would be clumsy for what I really desire as a wiki nested page navigation menu.
To be workable from the main page or subpages IMO one needs a subset of this in the side panel to work as a hierarchical table of contents - think like the windows explorer file manager view when it shows directories - the drive letters and names would be the spaces, then the next link down would be the first wiki page of that space and then the next drill down would be the next wiki page below the first wiki page.
As one navigates to the first wiki page further deeper wiki page levels would be shown. The way it works with Dekiwiki is as one drills deeper the upper levels displayed are "closed" - i.e all upper levels are indented to the 0 position - so that the hierarchy width doesnt grow wider than the initial panel size.
Also looking at the tree display currently in XE 1.8, to be practical and not confuse users when used as a sidebar, the wiki page navigation panel one would need the option of "hiding" certain spaces. Many of the spaces created by the application import for example one doesnt necessarily want to display, often just the user spaces would be what is desired to display. So if one creates say a 'department' space then a user might want to browse around in that to navigate to a specific page they want quickly.
Really what I mean is like in XE we have spaces which in turn have pages, I'd like within each space to have subpages of main pages which are intuitive for users to navigate, almost like subspaces within a main space.
At present it appears to me as if all wiki pages within a space are at the same hierarchical level, which of course makes managing multiple pages on a certain topic/theme a bit of a challenge.
Also having this tree space context aware would be wonderful so that if one is in a space then the "tree sidebar" navigator shows only the pages in the space. One could have a main menu option so that a user can always get back to the home/main page but then again the "quicklinks" could also be used for that, but it might be more intuitive if its listed on the "tree sidebar" right as the first entry as well.
I did attach an example jpg to this mail but it appears it didnt get through so hopefully you don't mind that I have emailed it directly FYI. I can create a short video clip of it if you want as well to show how one can navigate pages easily in this manner.
Thanks for your interest. Integrating such a feature in the main sidebar would make Xwiki wiki pages considerably more navigable.
Thanks, Cheers

Hi all,
It'm trying to use "tags" as a more structured categorization feature.
First I saw that in tagedit.vm, we can change to a select list instead of an input field for entering tags. I changed this in the displayEdit property for XWiki.TagClass, but without effect.
In tagedit.vm we have (XWiki 1.5) :
#set($displayType = $xwiki.getDocument("XWiki.TagClass").xWikiClass.tags.getProperty('displayType').value)
#set($possibleTags = $tdoc.tagsPossibleValues)
....
First line is ok and says "select", but $tdoc.tagsPossibleValues is always empty ...
So my question is : where is defined the list of possible tags for page(s) ? I though it was the "tags" field of page XWiki.TagClass, but it seems it's not ...
Thanks for help,
Jeremie

Alain,
Thanks for the input. I did see your post and did check this b4 posting. I'm running MySQL 5.051a-3ubuntu5.4 server so the only current 5.0x version of JDBC driver I can find at MySQL is mysql-connector-java-5.08 which I used to replace the jdbc jar which came with XEM in the WEB-INF/bin folder so unless I've got versions wrong it doesnt appear to be this.
Sergiu,
Thanks very much, the xwiki plugin edit - it solved my issue perfectly.

Hi all,
Something really wired is hapening. We have a page that used to list all our
speakers (http://www.parisjug.org/xwiki/bin/view/Speaker/). It contains the
following code :
#set($query="where doc.web='Speaker' and doc.name!='WebHome' order by
doc.title desc")
#set($results = $xwiki.searchDocuments($query))
#foreach ($item in $results)
#includeInContext($item)
<br/>
#end
It always worked well. But now, when we click on the link, we are
automatically redirected to the XWikiPreferences pages. I've tried to show
the history of the Speaker/WebHome page, but it's impossible, it redirects
to the XWikiPreferences page.
I'm not sure there is anything wrong with the code of the page, maybe rights
issue or something like that. Do you have any idea ?
Thanks,
Antonio
Hi,
when I try to edit one of my users I get a small mask with the 2 buttons
"Save" and "Cancel". Above there is only the text
"#includeForm("XWiki.XWikiUserSheet")".
When I try to edit the "Admin" user I get a full mask. This takes some
time > 30 sec. In the mask the message
"rss: Error processing

is displayed. Also I get an exception on the console:

Hi,
Some days ago, I put a ticket about pb managing the users by Admin.
This ticket is closed : the MySQL connector on my platform was not at the
right version for DBMS.
My ticket did not describe yours, but ...
Hope this help.

>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Hi,
Have setup XEM 1.8 on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, using MySQL, Jetty container and Sun
Java 5.5
All seems to be relatively well as far as I can tell, can create pages, new
wikis, import applications, do a calendar, blog, etc
However I cannot add users or groups in the admin panel - I can only login
as the default Admin user.
On the page
http://localhost:8380/xwiki/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences?editor=globala…
when I enter a new group name - e..g Administrators and click on the create
new group button I get a "loading" message what appears to be some sort of
script
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/scriptaculous/scriptaculous.js")
and then nothing - can wait for hours but no usergroup is ever created.
I have the same issue with creating a new user.
Then if I go to the "index" quicklink I get the same "loading" message but
nothing ever loads.
If I go to the tree page it shows me
$xwiki.ssfx.use("js/yui/treeview/assets/tree.css")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/yahoo/yahoo-min.js")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/treeview/treeview-min.js")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/treeview/checknode.js")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/event/event-min.js")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/connection/connection-min.js")
and no tree.
How can I fix this? I'm guessing they're related in some way.
Thanks

Done, and it works. So;
main/xwiki - works
main.mydomain.local/xwiki - works
projects/xwiki - works
projects.mydomain.local/xwiki - works
I guess the only question I have is why there is only one alias for
projects (projects.mydomain.local) and both the FQDN and the short
version work. For the main however only an exact match of alias' work.
Is this a bug? Only an annoyance really though, it just threw me off
that it worked for a sub-wiki but not for the main one. Thanks for all
your help!

Thanks a lot Tomas, this has cleared things up a lot. First let me congratulate you and the team/community for an excellent product, I am looking forward to using it in our company and once I understand things I hope I can provide some useful contributions.
I have got my mini-farm working now, except I still can only select the main admin wiki using the IP address. It is running inside a private network, I have added entries in the DNS to point to the server IP address and these resolve correctly when I ping them, or nslookup.
Entries are
(A) main.mydomain.local -> 192.168.x.x
(CNAME) projects.mydomain.local -> main.mydomain.local
The setup I have is;
1. Main wiki Domain names: 'localhost', 'main.mydomain.local'
2. Template Domain names: 'templatexe.template.local'
3. Project management wiki: 'projects.mydomain.local'
When I hit http://projects/xwiki I get the projects wiki, excellent!
When I hit http:/main/xwiki I get the redirect
The only way to get to main is http://192.168.x.x/xwiki at the moment this is OK I guess but I would like to understand why this happens as it might point to something else wrong. Also since the installation the main wiki has links for 'Calendar' and 'Photo Albums' but these have a '?' and the pages don't exist. Is this normal, or does it point to something else wrong?
Any ideas?

Hi,

I have the same issue with creating a new user.

If I go to the tree page it shows me
$xwiki.ssfx.use("js/yui/treeview/assets/tree.css") $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/yahoo/yahoo-min.js") $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/treeview/treeview-min.js") $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/treeview/checknode.js") $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/event/event-min.js") $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/yui/connection/connection-min.js")
and no tree.
How can I fix this? I'm guessing they're related in some way.
Thanks
Hi,
One aspect thats driving me a little scatty - and I have to date installed XE, XEM and Chronopolys and XW - so far only Chrono seems pretty intuitive for me to drive out the box - is having a way for a user to see the pages they have created in some sort of hierarchy but built into the menu of the page or the quick links section or some such for easy page navigation and knowing where they are in the wiki.
e.g. I can see the page "breadcrumbs" allow one to move backwards to a higher level page, but how does one move forward or see that there is a fwd page short of placing a hyperlink to the next page on the current page or expecting users to click on "information" tab of the current page to find its "children"
I mean in Dekiwiki this is built into it so was positively elementary so I'm frustrated that I don't seem to be able to do this in Xwiki. What am I missing? I was hoping the "Document index" tree could be used for this by say finding a way to display it as part of the "Quicklinks" or similar dashlet on the dashboard, but the script to do this doesnt appear to work for user pages I'm finding and it appears this issue is regarded as a minor script issue by the developers, and even if it were to work I'm guessing that being a separate page to browse to its not really what I was hoping to see.
I can create something like this (I'll use the Xwiki terms (in parentheses) as I understand them for what I'd like to do) and write the page names in UPPERCASE and use some hypothetical names. Using XEM where I have created Wiki: MAIN_HOME (as the first wiki of the farm) I would like to use and navigate something like this ito user page hierarchy:
(Wiki)
MAIN_HOME (Wiki) --
|--Departments(Space)
|-- Planning (Page)
| --Planning projects (Page)
| -- Efficiency project (Page)
| -- Warehouse project (Page)
| -- ISO 9000 (Page)
| -- Production (Page)
| -- Downtime (Page)
| -- Utilisation (Page)
| -- ISO 14000 (Page)
| -- Finance (Page)
| Budgets (Page)
| Guidelines (Page)
| Safety (Space)
| Weekly topic (Page)
| Safety projects (Page)
| Training (Space)
| Agenda (Page)
etc
Can this type of thing be done in Xwiki or do I misunderstand something fundamental in how to use it?
I realise the XE product is intended to be basic out the box and must be customised and isnt a universal plug and go solution but I'm wrestling with what I thought should be simple to achieve so I'm wondering.
I really like the way Xwiki converts pages to PDF stripping out all the Wiki clutter and the Edit, Show print bar that hide a lot of clutter that other Wikis put and print on the wiki page, but the Xwiki created user page navigation is less than intuitive and if I'm struggling then the most users our side will be completely lost so I need to resolve this aspect first if its possible.
Is there a way - a plugin maybe?
Thanks
Cheers

Hello,
<br><br>Is there a way to configure XWiki to allow section editing for Heading 3, 4 and above? I see that it allows by default only heading 1 and 2 to be editing via the section editing mechanism. Perhaps there is a setting somewhere for this?
<br><br>Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I report again a trouble which has not received help (well, I'm sure it's a
stupid trouble), but, really, I'm stocken with this XWiki behavior :
The trouble : if, as Admin in "Administrator wiki", I insert for example 2
users. I don't see them in the right category Users UI.
The page tells "Display rows from 1 to 3 out of 3" (which is right) but the
users and not displayed.
Same beahevior with the Groups UI : "Display rows from 1 to 2 out of 2"
(obviously XWikiAdminGroup and XWikiAllGroup), but the groups are not
displayed.
This is for a deployment of xwiki on Tomcat 5.5 and MySQL DB, because with
the standalone deployment (Jetty and HSQLDB), I get the right behavior :
groups and users are displayed.
I checked my config as far as I can :
- in xwiki.cfg, I have the directive
xwiki.users.initialGroups=XWiki.XWikiAllGroup
- I have imported the right xwiki.xar
- my hibernate parameters seem right
- my directory "templates" is same as xwiki standalone
I made again several times full new deployments (DB, XWiki, parameters) and
always the same behavior.
Well, thousands of thanks for help

Well, I am completely confused. I have exactly the same problem;
UBUNTU/JBOSS/XEM1.6
I had a default setup of XE working, deleted it and then did exactly the
same things except using XEM 1.6 and allowing all privs on the MYSQL
database. If I swap to the deployment of XE, works fine. It doesn't seem
to matter how I hit the server with XEM running, IP address, fully
qualified name, name with www., name with xwiki. I still get no wiki
exists.
Something happens, as the empty database gets populated with tables, but
that seems to be it. The xwiki.log seems to have a lot of entries
relating to lucene errors, but none of that makes sense either.
These seem to start with sonething like:
java.io.FileNotFoundException:
/home/jboss/jboss-4.2.2.GA/server/xwikisvr/work/jboss.web/localhost/xwik
i/lucene/segments_2 (No such file or directory)
This file doesn't exist, but the rights to create it if needed do. There
is a segments_1 created in this location
I have a question?
'add the right hosts to the main wiki's descriptor', what? And how?
Would it be possible to explain a little better, I just don't get what
you mean, and I have seached xwiki.org and in the group but cannot seem
to find anything that makes sense. I just want to load the default .xar
and get started creating a couple of wikis.

Hi,
Did new install of XEM Jetty/Mysql version on Ubuntu 8.04, with Mysql 5.05. Followed install docs and everything seems to install OK and imported the XAR template logged is as Admin the default passwd. Only thing I changed was the Jett port # to 8380.
I can create new wikis but in the log file I see the ffg:
org.mortbay.thread.QueuedThreadPool$PoolThread.run(QueuedThreadPool.java:522)
2009-04-06 18:28:08,696 [http://127.0.0.1:8380/xwiki/bin/view/WikiManager/CreateNewWiki?wikiname=pro…] [27832@qtp0-4] WARN filter.MacroFilter - MacroFilter: unable to format macro: table

This appears every time I create a new wiki.
Also in the admin section when I try create myself as a new user and I fill in the username, first name, lastname field and then click on add new user button I get a comment "loading" and a striped moving bar but nothing more happens even if I wait for 60 mins. At the opt of the page under xwiki:webhome>xwikipreference I see what seems like a script error: $xwiki.jsfx.use("js/scriptaculous/scriptaculous.js")
I get similar "scripting errors" on various pages - e.g. if I go to menu option Index I see $xwiki.ssfx.use("js/yui/treeview/assets/tree.css and more similar text.
Can anyone suggest how I might fix this?
Thanks
Hi,
I setup XE 1.8 WAR on Ubuntu 8.1 VM with Tomcat6, Sun Java6, Postgres 8.3 with postgresql-8.3-604.jdbc4.jar
It seems to be OK except that when I create a New_Space and then attempt to view the page tree in the
e.g. Quicklinks > Document index > Tree and myNewSpace
I just get a circular rotating arrows "hourglass" cursor next to the tree and that new space index tree never opens.
However, existing default spaces like Main and Blog open into their tree structure.
If I look in the Tomcat6 log I see nothing that looks like errors - just stuff like loading plexus context properties, plexus, context initialised.
Can anyone suggest a fix?
Thanks
Hi,
I don't understand the documentation about Wiki Access Configuration -
Private Wiki with password:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Configuration#HWikiA
ccessConfiguration
What is "Global rights"? I only get a mask with the header
"admin.globalrights" and nothing else. What do I have to do to configure
this feature?
And a second question: What happens with wiki access, if I use LDAP?
Jens
Hi,
I have switched the default language to 'de' and then tried to
administer "Rights".
There are 2 checkboxes ("Prevent unregistered users from ...", in
german "Verhindern, dass nicht registrierte Benutzer ..." ) that can not
be rendered. Instead I get the labels "$view_alt" and "$edit_alt".
Jens
Dear ALl
I was wondering if I am doing something wrong because I have only had a
couple of answers to my post about getting a "captcha" into the registration
form. (thanks Manfred). I have found reference to "captcha" in the config
file, but changing 0 to 1 didn't seem to make a difference (that I could
find searching around in the class/properties)
Maybe I am posting on the wrong newsgroup?
I still need to know:
1 ... is there a captcha opion built in to xwiki somewhere?
2 ...if not, would it be feasible to try and "drop" something like a php
version (etc) of one in?
I really would appreciate any help that anyone can give with this
thanks very much
Edward
I'm trying to use $context.setLinksQueryString to set a contant skin accross navigation (which it is adding the query string just fine)
Whenever I use the setLinksQueryString, my skin loads, then the page flashes and I have a bunch of albatross css.
Firebug reports that it is coming from screenlayout.css. But using the net tab in firebug, I see that screenlayout.css is never requested... odd that.
I haven't used the albatross skin for anything, all of my skins are using toucan as the base skin, and all the css file requests listed in firebug are calling either my own skins, or toucan css skins.
I'm using Enterprise 1.8

Hi,
Sometimes im confused because i cant find things in the documentation i find by searching in other parts of the XWiki HomePage e.g XWikiSyntax Page -> Platform, XWikiShortCuts -> Platform.
Shouldn't those things at least be linked to the Documentation also?
In fact i'm missin a general XWiki Features part in the Dokumentation.
In case of the Short Cuts, in the new WYSIWYG some shortcuts work like Ctrl+B for bold but i can't find which ones exist.
Is there some more documentation on the WebDAV feature than that?
http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/WebDAVhttp://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Configuration#HConfigur…
Just cant find how to connect to XWiki via WebDAV
Thanks

Hello XWiki users,
I'm trying to configure OpenOffice server for XWiki 1.8 installation
(xwiki.properties). Operating system where all is installed is OpenSuse
11.1. OpenOffice 3 is installed. For this distribution there is
/usr/share/ooo3 directory with program subdirectory, but soffice.bin XWiki
is looking for is not there. Instead, I'm able to manually start OpenOffice
server using /usr/bin/soffice script.
Is there any way to configure XWiki to use /usr/bin/soffice to start
OpenOffice server, or to configure XWiki to use OpenOffice server already
started outside of XWiki (e.g. using custom startup script) ?
Regards,
Stevo.
Hi,
some things i found in Lists:
1. when you enter a point at the end of an item the linebrake to the next
item disappears e.g.
- item1
- item2
->
- item1.item2
2. When you have links as items and you want to enter text after the link.
The text is added to the Linktext.

Scheduled tasks seem to run; but cannot work with documents in the wiki. This used to work well in 1.4, but for some reason it does not work in 1.7.2. One of the tasks is to open a document and send an email based on a notification date inside the document's main class object.
The code works perfectly when run in a wiki page: I've dropped everything except for getting document count based on a query and if count is more than 1 sending an email to me. Naturally this is not the objective - just simplified for testing.
I have nine virtual xwiki's running on the same server, the scheduled task is running on the main instance (documents located on main instance as well). Nothing except for xwiki engine update (and xar import) has changed.
Using the admin user to save changes to the scheduler.

Hi,
I'm trying make plugin that allows changing rights of parent page and automatically changes rights of its children pages. Now, this plugin is almost working, it is really changing the rights of all pages. But when I select Edit-> Page Access Rights then there are no icons in the rights editor showing rights of users and groups for this page.
I have found that when I change rights using the plugin for example for page Main and group called Folks, then in Edit->Objects->XWiki.XWikiRights in the Groups fields there are two items called "Folks" (but actually just one group Folks exist). So I think this is the problem, but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... Can you help me? Thanks a lot
Here is the part of java code in plugin:
XWikiD
BaseObject objekt = doc.getObject("XWiki.XWikiRights",true, context);
objekt.set("users", "", context);
objekt.set("levels", "edit", context);
objekt.setStringValue("groups", "Folks");
// objekt.set("groups", "Folks",context); this makes no difference
objekt.setClassName("XWiki.XWikiRights"); // probably useless
objekt.set("allow", 1, context);
try{
context.getWiki().saveDocument(doc, context);
}catch(Exception a){}

Hi all,
I just installed the 1.8 stable new version in hope to solve editors problem.
It said the new Wysiwyg editor is by default in this version, and i note in near pasts topic that objective was to have XWiki Syntax 2.0 by default for new documents starting in XWiki Enterprise 1.8 final too..
But i can see in right panel Wiki 1.0 syntax set as defaut when i create a page. Is it normal or can I somewhere set 2.0 by default?
Regards,
Remi.

Not for me... but for some enterprising GSOC applicant: Seems like this
could be a good and achievable "closed-end" project that doesn't involve
complicated multi-system integration (and multi-points of failure), just
some new xwiki code based on examples already written. Code that IMHO would
be very useful:

Hi.
I have a problem with sender address. I have the following configuration:
1. logged in user with email address defined in edit->objects
2. SendPageByEmail from default-1.8.xar with code
#set($sender = $context.user.substring(6))
When I try to send an email the sender is being set to 'XWiki.rlach'.
What else can I check?
