Please, does anybody know how the entries for spaces are ordered in
Panels.Navigation? Is it possible to modify it?
Then, within the menu of each space the entries are ordered
alphabetically. Is it possible to modify this?
Thanks for your help,

Hi all,
I've been using XWiki during this year and now I have a titanic task :
upgrade it to XWiki 1.1
Unfortunately I haven't found any document on how to upgrade, neither in
the site nor in the list archives, so I decided to transfer the MySQL
database to a new location (unsing mysqldump) and install XWiki 1.1 from
scratch
(http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation#HInstallingtheX…)
using MySQL 5.0 and Tomcat 6
After obtaining a " *Field 'XWD_ARCHIVE' doesn't have a default value"
error (and solved it thanks to
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-1702) a more obscure error
appears regarding some attributes and so.
I decided not to follow a trial an error path, and I'm here asking for
some guide or guidelines to do this upgrade, or in case such a thing
doesn't exists beg for some help from you all, and as a thanks gift
offer to publish a mini howto for upgrading XWiki from v0.9.x to 1.1.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I use a html redirect tag in index.html. The best way is to tweak the web server config file but I don't know if it is possible with Jetty.

-The XWiki dev team
I just installed the latest version of xwiki for testing purposes .
We are in the process of evaluating wiki engines.
I was able to add my self as a user, but can't modify anything else
because I need the admins account.
So, what is the default admin username and password?
I've searched all over the documentation and didn't find it.

Thanks Sergiu - I'll have a go when I have a free moment.

1. Go to http://jira.xwiki.org
2. Make an account (the registration is open)
3. Log in with that account
4. Create a new issue (there's a link in the upper left area of the page)

Hello,
As my project requirement, I am using a textbox area property for users to
enter a URL address when they are posting information for a blog entry. I
want this URL address to be clickable after it is posted. For instance, when
they enter www.google.com in this text area and click on the URL
afterwards, the link should take them to www.google.com. Is there a way to
do that in xwiki?
Thank you for your time and help in advance!

Hi,
Having file:// would be useful to link to files on network drives which my
users tend to want to do.
How do you raise this as a jira issue?

Hi,
For the moment, if the URL also includes the http:// or ftp:// of
https:// part, then it will automatically be transformed to a link. We
don't do this transformation for URLs starting with www (without the
http:// part), but you can make a jira issue to ask for this, and if
we vote that it won't be a dangerous change, it could be implemented
in 15 minutes.

Hi all,
I'm just setting up a simple Java class in order to export our old XWiki
(0.9.840) into our new XWiki (1.1.4935) via XML-RPC. The export is working
quite nice, I can retrieve all documents and all needed URLs of attachments in
order to download them using a small shell script for a later import.
The problem is that I always receive timeouts when connecting to our new
XWiki. There is no data returned (twice checked with tcpdump). I can't figure
out where the problem is. Did I miss a needed parameter for working XML-RPCs
in XWiki 1.1?
On both Xwikis I use this XML-RPC URL: /xwiki/bin/xmlrpc/confluence. If I
point my browser to this request, I receive an error message about improper
use of XML-RPC so there seems to be a listener working.
The environment of the XWiki server is: Linux 2.6, Tomcat 5.5.17, Java
1.5.0_08
The environment of my client is: Windows XP, Java 1.6.0_02 with Apache XML-RPC
client 3.0
What could I do in order to find the problem? catalina.out is empty...

Thanks in advance and best regards,

I had to install Tomcat with MySQL so that I can set the wiki up as a
windows service. I tried to set it up with just Jetty - with no luck.
I have been struggling with this for hours now.
I read old emails regarding hibernate.cg.xml setup - and I have tried
many possible combinations:
<property name="connection.url">jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1/xwiki?useServerPrepStmts=false</property>
<property name="connection.username">xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.password">xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.driver_class">com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</property>
<property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLDialect</property>
<property name="connection.provider_class">com.xpn.xwiki.store.DBCPConnectionProvider</property>
<property name="connection.url">jdbc:mysql://localhost/xwiki?useServerPrepStmts=false</property>
<property name="connection.username">xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.password">xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.driver_class">com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</property>
<property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLDialect</property>
<property name="connection.provider_class">com.xpn.xwiki.store.DBCPConnectionProvider</property>
All of which give me the same error.....

wiki.

Hi,
I am trying to update a XWiki installation to the last 1.1.1.5166
release available for download.
Doing some tests I've stoped Tomcat, rename xwiki folder to xwiki.old
and created a new xwiki holding the new release. xwiki.cfg and
hibernate.cfg.xml where accordingly modify. After starting again Tomcat,
the new release was up and running but I am facing some problems with
LDAP authentication.
I've tried to come back to the old release by renaming back xwiki.old to
xwiki. But the only message I get is error:
type Status report
message /xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome
description The requested resource (/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome) is not
available.
Please, could you tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

Anyone?
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to generate a list of links to wiki pages that meet a
set of defined features i.e. filter and sort (features defined on the
objects or tags on those pages)? Perhaps like the Google search, list the
first 20 or 30 pages and have a next/previous, 1, 2, 3, etc buttons to list
the next selections of page links (to cope with the display of large numbers
of page links).
If anyones got any code snipits to get me started then that would be really
useful - thanks.
The idea is perhaps to explore how to use XWiki to semi automatically
generate pages to record tasks or issues, and then to list those pages
(tasks/issues) according to say the status or owners of those tasks/issues.
For tasks I'm thinking XWiki might be used to help guide users through
business processes and semi-automatically document they have followed those
processes (for CMMI) so they can be simply audited. Documents generated
through users following the tasks/processes can then be generated from
templates and stored within the wiki. If anyone else has any ideas/code that
could help perhaps realise this then let me know!

Hello,
I would like to do the following : create a new class, with a number of properties being lists.
For the end-user it would be like this : select an entry in first list, depending on the value, the second list is restricted to a limited number of choices. And the same on and on with third list.
Constraint : I cannot modify database and create new tables and such.
Do you think this would be feasible ? I hoped, if yes, someone could just through some ideas to start with, because I'm not sure on how to proceed to have such "dynamic" lists ...
Thanks,

I am facing problem with XWiki export, it creates backup.xar (20,396 KB) file but when I try to unzip that file it can not unzip the file and gives error "Unexpected end of archive".. however export works fine if i export only original installed XWiki without any changes. Do you have any idea how to fix the issue ?

All,
A space selection combo box could be useful.
I've revised the New Page panel code (see below) to provide functionality to
create a new page or space based upon a page template (from a Template space
or where ever). Its not perfect, but maybe it can help. If you or anyone can
do any better then let me know! Paste it into the New Page panel code area
to see it work.
Also I'd like a pop up (or something) to appear when a user clicks on a ?
link so they can select a template to base the new page on - but I don't
know how that could be coded.
Creating a series of page from a template page (by reading the template
pages the top level template page) would also be a good feature or having a
template space from which to create new space e.g. template project
spaces/pages which can be reused for new projects, etc.
Best Regards,
Richard

I've been running XWiki 1.1 milestone 3 (the latest at the time I installed
it) for some time now. We've made a couple of alterations to the skin (we
did it right in the albatross skin instead of making our own -- shame on
us). We also edited a couple of pages. Most importantly, we've added TONS
of content.
I'm struggling to understand the best way to upgrade to the latest release,
XWiki 1.1.1. I think it is the case that I can leave my DB as is and the
new XWiki engine will run against its syrcture (or, hibernate will
automatically update it).
However, I want ot be sure to pick up any changes made in the default set
of XWiki pages. The latest release notes page says to link at the list of
hcanged pages to import, but I saw no such list.
But even beyond that, should I be installing/extracting to a separate
directory and copying my changes over, pointing ti my existing DB, and then
importing those pages known to have changed (once I can identify those)?
I've done some searching but can't seem to find an overall upgrade
strategy.
Thoughts?
Regards,
Brian.

* Lucene Plugin does not index creation or modification dates
* Import with history throws exception from time to time
* Panels Wizard not saving panels correctly

Hi,
I have just tried migrating my 1.0 installation to 1.1. (MSQLDB, on WinXP)
Using a copy of the XWiki 1.0 MSQL Database and pointing at it from my new
V1.1 installation.
Currently, I encounter a strange phenomenon, that I haven't seen discussed
anywhere:
All links that were specified without Space name (e.g. [test>test] instead
[test>myspace.test] break, since appearently XWiki is looking for these
pages in the XWIKI Space rather than the space of the parent document.
$doc.space is set correctly but all (space-local) links refer to the xwiki
space: eg.
http://localhost:8080/xwiki/bin/edit/XWiki/XWikiNeu2?parent=XWiki.gleeb
rather then:
http://xwiki/xwiki/bin/view/Architektur/XWikiNeu2 (as seen in our original
V1.0 installation)
Using #includeForm("XWiki.WebHomeTemplate") also caused the XWiki Space to
be used although the including page is in another space.
Nothing appearent in the xwiki.log.
Did I screw up the configuration somehow?
Any pointers of what is wrong are appreciated.
Regards,
Gunter

Could you try following the information in the release notes and see if you can get it to work. If not please post here and we'll find the solution together and improve the release notes.
Thanks

I have been testing out Xwiki for a couple of months now and I am very
impressed with it. One feature that I can't seem to find though is the
ability to include one section of a page instead of a whole page. Is this
supported? Or is there a way to write a macro that does this?
-SJB
Ok, I see two items:
1. Current issues with inability to move content from for example
word document even using WYSIWYG editor and disappearing texts doesn't
allow me to get the pages with the same content in xWiki as they were in
word document
2. I don't want to use wiki at least now for coding something and
want to use only what it provides as it's assured on the site but in
order to make it work for some cases I need to read DevGuide as well.
3. I'm newbie for wikis since never edited wiki pages before just
used as web pages for getting information but what I see that seems
xWiki IRC channel is only for dev discussions or for questions that can
be handled by one answer and providing 4-5 sentences for getting one
answer which will work is not enough.
As I said that xWiki is great tool and perhaps best one for wiki but
these items don't allow me to get xWiki working now in they way as I
want and since I'm newbie I don't expect much, just get the same content
from existing documents.
That cwould be good If WYSIWYG editor will be fixed and no questions
will appear about their simple usage so they will not take dev team to
answer.
All IMHO.
Have a good weekend.
Best regards,
Juri.

We know that the wysiwyg editor has bugs that need to be fixed. See JIRA

Just so that you know we're also working on a new implementation of the

Hi,
I am having trouble finding database scripts to generate the XWiki database.
Where are these located?
Iam also having trouble finding offline documentation (to download) so i can
work on XWiki when i am not connected to the internet. Does anyone know the
link to download offline documentation (User and Admin guides)?
Your help would be much appreciated!

Hello Everybody,
I've got a page which is originally written as "English" (although it's written in french). I have copy and and paste it into the "French" translation.
How do I delete the "English" translation of the page ?

Hi
It is probably more appropriate to ask this question in the Twiki lists,
since the import is determined to some extent by the support available in
the target wiki.
However, any reason why your company is doing the switch?

Hi.
I'm trying to connect to a remote (local lan) instance of xwiki using
xeclipse plugin.
When I try to connect I get this message:
"Failed to create input stream: Server returned HTTP response code:
503 for URL: http://coobj2/xwiki/xmlrpc/confluence"
My guess is that eventually rpc interface is not enabled by default
for remote access, but I failed locating a config panel
in xwiki or a reference to it in files.
Facts:
- I can access the same wiki by browser as admin with same credentials.
- Tomcat logs do not show lines refering to my failed attempt.
- Xwiki version is 1.0.3342.
- Xeclipse version is 1.0.0-milestone-1.
At home i'm succesful in connecting to a localhost instance, with
possibily slightly different xwiki and xeclipse version.
Can you help?
Thanks in advance.

Indeed, the proper way is to edit login.vm, where the login screen is
defined. In order to redirect to a certain page, you can replace
<div class="hidden"><input type="hidden" name="xredirect"
value="$!request.xredirect" /></div>
with
<div class="hidden"><input type="hidden" name="xredirect"
value="$!xwiki.getURL('That.Document')" /></div>
About the wrong URL the users are redirected to, that is a known bug
which was fixed in XWiki 1.1 (

Thanks Wei-hsing,
In my XWiki setup I've set it so all users have to login and so when its
their first login to the XWiki they end up at
http://167.138.122.17:8080/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/XWikiLogin%3Bjsessionid%3D7s
or9btuj7s6d with a message saying "The requested document could not be
found." Any ideas?
I have found though that I could edit the CSS login.vm albatros skin file to
add an email link (for users to request an XWiki user account from the
administrator i.e. me) onto the login page if that's of any use to any other
users out there.

Hi,
One way to direct user to a certain page after login is to make that page require a login (guest view denied), a link to that page, say "Members, enter here," will cause the login page to show up, after login, they will be directed to that first member page. This method is not the best, but cost no effort.

We would like some pages to have the same look and feel and for users to be
able to add a page with a standard "look" to it. Can that be done? I
couldn't find any documentation on it.
S.H.
Hi all,
Anyone know the answers:
* Does anyone know how to update the text on the login page with say an
email link for people to request an account, etc?
* Redirect the user to a certain initial page when they login?
If anyone has any answer I can paste them to the FAQ section of the XWiki
website.
Regards,
Richard

Ok, so I figured it out. The tutorial should be updated for the latest
release. It doesn't describe the process to associate the object very well.
Anyhow, thanks just the same.

I haven't been able to find a satisfying answer nor have I been able to find
it out by myself.
So I have to rely on you guys!
I just would like to have that policy by default:
The view and edit rights assigned to any resource created by a User are
restricted to that User only by default.
Unless it does create it in a public space.
In other word, I'd like to be able to provide a private space to my users.
cheers

Hi All,
I'm wondering whether it is possible to configure the whole xwiki or
(preferably) a space to have certain class attached to every page created.
Just like it is done with tag class by default. I know that similar
questions have been here several times. I've learned the standard way with
template and custom HTML form. But I'd like to avoid custom form - i need to
guarantee this class is attached, even if user didn't use any form (clicked
non-existent wikiname for example).
The final goal is to implement my own tagging system with more advanced
features (like hierarchy, tags on tags etc)
Thanx in advance

Hi everyone,
Just curious, but the pages appear to "flash" from blue to white as the page
is loading. I know this will be a complaint from my users. Any ideas on
how to fix?
S.H.
Hi Guys,
I have several questions about xwiki usage.
1. I want to change layout of the space named "Main". How I can do
this? I should say that that after installing xwiki with jetty and
hsqldb and see {edit this panel} link but after installing war on tomcat
I don't see it. Perhaps I need to specify the rights for this? Sure I'm
logged as Administrator in both cases.
2. How do you keep the same content between the pages? For example
feature list on xwiki.com? Is it different copies or you specified links
somehow? I was told that it's #includeInContext
<irc://irc.freenode.org/%23includeInContext> but I couldn't get example
even registering on xwiki.org by looking on the code.
Thanks,
Juri.

Hi,
I deployed xwiki-web-standard-1.1-rc-2-hsqldb.war to Tomcat 6.0.14 running
with JDK 1.6. Furthermore, I imported xwiki-enterprise-wiki-1.1.xar and
selected all available documents. My goal was to create a new panel and add
it to either the left or right column. I created a new panel,
dragged&dropped it to one of the columns using the Panel Wizard and pressed
the "Save new Layout" button. After going back to Main I can see a new panel
but it's not the one I dragged&dropped there. In my case it became the Blog
Entries and not the one I created. I just can't get my panel to show up in
the columns. My xwiki.log has the following entries:
08:27:55,712 [http-8080-2] ERROR log.SimpleLog4JLogSystem - Method
sendRedirect threw exception for reference $response in template at [57,1]
08:29:13,198 [http-8080-2] ERROR log.SimpleLog4JLogSystem - Left side
($velocityCount) of '==' operation has null value. If a reference, it may
not be in the context. Operation not possible. Blog.Category [line 50,
column 42]
Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?
Thanks,
Ben

Hi anyone,
Quite a few times page contents (especially tables) get obscured by the
right hand menu panels. Is there anyway to have a button or something to
click to hide the menu panels or/and perhaps to have a horizontal scroll bar
at the bottom of the page so the user can scroll to see the rest of the
page? Perhaps any css gurus out there might know how to tweak the skin to do
this. I've managed to wrap (with overflow) :
<DIV STYLE="overflow: auto; width: 900px; height: 500; border-top: 1px gray
solid; border-left: 1px gray
solid; border-bottom: 1px gray solid; padding:0px; margin: 0px">
around large tables to provide a horizontal scroll bar, but the WYSIWYG
editor removes it, so its not ideal when users want to use the WYSIWYG
editor to edit a table!

We've just had an issue on our main produciton servers that has resulted
in an effectively fresh windows 2003 installation for our Xwiki services
- the problem is, tomcat has some needed configs that I cannot seem to
recall at this point.
Pretty much what happens is that the server cannot be reached from any
pc outside the actual server. It is there and accessable (pings fine),
users can even browse the shares on it - but tomcat does not seem to be
willing to open itself to the outside world.
If memory serves, there are a few files (or was it one?) that need
certain permissions on 2003, does anyone have any idea of which one(s)?
I'm seeing some odd behavior with panels in XWiki 1.1 (1.1.4918) on a
clean install using xwiki-enterprise-1.1-hsqldb.zip.
When I edit the panels (using the Panel Wizard), I remove the default
panels, and added 'search' 'create' & 'spaces' (I think 'create' was
already there).
After saving & returning to Main, the 'search' panel has disappeared,
and the 'Panels' panel has been added. If I return to the Panel Wizard,
I cannot find 'search'.
I've also had a few instances where the Panel Wizard page doesn't seem
to render properly (hard to describe, background is white, and the panel
objects don't want to be dragged to the right panel area).
I didn't seem to have this issue w/rc-1. Anyone have any thoughts or
suggestions?

Hi,
there is a problem with the blog macro (Blog.Macros) when content length
is greater than 400 and there is an html open tag right before the 400th
position.
E.g. content from position 390 to 428 is:
"This <div class="foo">is a test </div>"
01234567890123456789012345678901234567
9 0 1 2
3 4 4 4
In this case the code below will insert
"[...]This <div "
as blog entry which destroys HTML formatting.
This is an excerpt of the blog macro code:
#set($content = $bentrydoc.display("extract", "view", $bentryobj))
#if($content=="")
#set($content = $bentrydoc.display("content", "view", $bentryobj))
#if($content.length()>400)
#set($i = $content.lastIndexOf(" ",400))

Hi!
Is there a way to get a local copy of xWiki UserGuide, DevGuide, AdminGuide?
I know I can mirror site :-) but I need documentation only.
Thanks,
Michael.

I'd put my perl snippet here:

It would be nice if someone can provide an adaption to this snippet to
import MediaWiki documents.

Hi Kyle,
If you are looking for the Table of Contents, there is a toc macro already
available with XWiki. Just put
#toc("" "" "")
at the beginning of the page and it will generate the toc. More details
here:

The XWiki development team is pleased to announce the release of
XWiki Enterprise Manager (XEM) 1.0 Milestone 1.
XEM is a special wiki (based on XWiki Enterprise) used to manage a
farm of sub-wikis. It has an interface to create new sub-wikis from
templates, delete wikis, view all created wikis, etc. Basically it's
meant to implement the feature previously known as "Virtual Wikis",
but as a product and with a UI.
Features in 1.0M1:
* XEM install page (XemManager.Install):
o Update XWikiPreferences with all application
translations pages bundled with XEM
o Create the default wiki template based on XE
* All Wiki Manager 1.0 Milestone 1 features:
o Create new empty wiki
o Create new wiki from template wiki
o Create new wiki from XAR file
* All Application Manager 1.0 Milestone 1 features:
o Create new application descriptor
o Delete application descriptor
o Export application based on XWiki Package internal plugin
o Import application based on XWiki Package internal plugin
o Support applications dependencies
o Children wikis can reference documents located in the
template wiki, thus preventing content duplication and easing
maintenance
o Support translations documents
For more information see the Release notes at:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ReleaseNotesXEM10M1

Vincent,
I solved this issue in a different way. If I add an object Xwiki.Tagclass, even if one already exists, then he error in the panel disappears. Quite strange, but for now (I am still testing) good enough for me.
I even managed to add the Xwiki.Tagclass object in de Login page which was rather difficult.

That did the trick. My version number is displaying just right now. I had about 6 files too many. Seems I mess up pretty bad, during upgrades. I blame the fact that I want to keep to many files afterwards.
Perhaps thats why my tagcloud gives errors sometimes. I'm gonna do some cleaning up.
Thanks!

FWIW, I've started a new page in the admin guide to track the

Please feel free to add other solutions in there:

Hi all,
Just an observation: if there were more documentation, code tutorials i.e.
customising the skins, writing macros, writing objects and using them,
embedding groovy and velocity code, explaination of snippets of code and how
they work, etc then a lot more people would start writing and contributing
stuff and it would snowball - so what I'm saying is that a little more work
in this area would reap great rewards. Unfortunately I don't know enough of
how XWiki works to do this otherwise I'd contribute.

Thanks Vincent,
Backup:
I'll look into how to do backup using HSQLDB and/or MySQL, although it would
be more convienent to do it from XWiki using triggering the Export utility
function to do a backup over night on a daily basis - has it got an API to
do this. Would it be possible to use the Export facility to only backup
pages and attachments added/modified since a certain date?
User admin:
Being in the process of adding a large number of users I found it would be
useful to be able to select a users user group from a pull down menu when
registering them - if no one else has then if I can figure out how to code
this then I'll let people know how to do this. Did I hear that the admin
side is in the process of being revamped anyway or did I mis hear?

Richard

I haven't used it myself so I don't know. I don't think this is documented

Hi,
I'm working on the finch skin. I'm not able to modify the logo, as I've
done for the albatross skin.
From the CSS I've seen that the current logo for finch is a transparent
blanck image while there is background image that is the one actually
showed.
So I delete that background image from the CSS, and changed the logo as
for albatross, but still, my logo is not showing. And more strange, the
old logo (the background image) is showed, even if I deleted is
referement in the CSS.
Any idea? Thanks.

Hi,
We have been doing great efforts to improve the WYSIWYG editor, I'm not
quite sure which version of XWiki you are using but hopefully the problem
you are referring to has been fixed in the last available version on
XWiki.org.
RG - I'll try the latest version and see if this problem is fixed.
Regarding the first page your users see after login in, they are supposedly
redirected to the page they were trying to access prior to login. That is,
if you give them the URL http://<server>/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome and the
page is protected, they will see the login page and then be redirected to
that page where content is already available.
RG - It seems then that initially when first logging in the last page you
accessed is the login page when you logged in - which you're not allowed to
edit, which isn't what you want the users to see first! When users login
later yes they are redirected to the last page they accessed. So it seems
that on an initial login to a session the users need to be redirected to
whatever home page the admin decides - perhaps the user can define an
initial home page? Note for an open wiki this isn't an issue.
Hope this helps,
Guillaume

Heloo,
Still me :-(
Is it planned to have the ability to define a workflow for
notifications, edting, ..., of pages?
More generally, we are certainly at a moment of the web content
management where the border between wikis and CMS will be thiner and
thiner (for instance see Apache Lenya project where we can edit pages
like in a wiki)... Could you explain to me what still are the
differences btewwen those two worlds?
best regards
Xavier
In spite of recent updates, the version displayed in the footer of my pages, does not display the latest version.
The current version appears to be 1.0-rc-5.
Today I have update to Enterprise 1.1
Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,
Up to now we only have pages ans spaces to structure information. I
would like to suggest to have another level of structuration, as we
can have for instance in MindMaps (MindManager) or in
http://www.w3schools.com/ or even in formalisms like SADT(IDEF0).
The idea is to have a tree of plans, each plan can have pages
structured into spaces, but each plan is itself structured into a
tree.
In mind manager, each node can be refined in a sub-tree and we can
navigate easily from one level to another one.
In http://www.w3schools.com/, the information is well presented on
the left side of the site as spaces containing pages. Somes pages are
themselves subplan, and when we clik on the, we enter in the sub tree
with the same kind of presentation... It is really clear, and
efficiant... I've made 5 years ago a generator in Mindmanager to
generate from the mind map automaticcaly an intranet following the
ruels edicted for w3schools. It was actually very convenient .

Xavier
Hello,
I'm quite new with Xwiki, evenif I used tu use wikis since a long
time, especially swiki (dyed), editme wiki, or mediawiki. I would like
to make a little remark about users and groups administration (and
maybe the whole administration) ; the ergonomy is not very good up to
now, compared to other tools (for instance edit me wiki)... I've seen
that you started to develop modules with GWT, and it isa good thing.
Maybe a more friendly manner to administrate users and groups could be
good.
Best regards
Xavier

Hi,
On my "main" side table, I would like to be able to modify exactly what gets
placed in there. Currently, there is a mix of some static links such as
"All Docs"
"Dashboard"
"delete space"
as well as whenever I create a new page those links go there as well. Can
the content for this side table be customizable by me (the admin) ?
Also, I would like to remove the "Sandbox" side table as well.
Thanks,
Josh
Folks,
I am trying to pull the source code for xwki 1.1 and build it. However,
after eluding from this list for several month, I no longer knows how to
build it. I built xwiki 1.0 before via ant and I have used maven 2 before,
but I am not quite sure which module should I checkout and choose if I just
want to get the xwiki application(not the tools or add on modules).
I have browsed the documentations from xwiki.org's community site, but I am
not quite sure where should I start. My questions are the following:
1. What are the minimum set of modules should I choose to download for just
the xwiki web application? (not the panels, tools, plugins etc. just the
core application which can build a .war like xwiki 1.0 or 0.984) The xwiki
platform or xwiki product?
2. I used to be able to download a specific release vesion of the source
code, but now I cannot find any version tagged by 1.1 but checking the
history of xwiki-platform or xwiki-products
3. Is ant build still supported or maven 2 is required now?
This topic might have been discussed before but I seem not able to find
them. Any of your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I use Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bi
I have two databases on two different platforms. ( One for devs and one for production. )
On my dev database I have a schema/user named XWIKI/XWIKI
On my prod database I have a schema/user named WIKI9/WIKI9
XWIKI 1.0 is installed on both platforms and it works very nicely.
Planning to upgrade to version 1.1, I installed XWIKI 1.1 on the dev platform. It works well. I decided to install it on my prod platform, it failed.
I think, xwiki 1.1 expects a schema named XWIKI. ( As detailed in the oracle install page. http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationOracle ).
I'm going to ask our DBA to change the schema/user name but it worked well with xwiki 1.0
Best regards.

I'd like to limit the logon time for users visiting our experimental

>From the Web I understand that one should disable the cookies, and let

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work (I use version 1.0.3342)! When
I disable the cookies, xwiki keeps asking the user to logon, whenever a

Anybody any idea? Thanks!

Hello,
I would like to know how the option "with history" in the import tool
should be understood ?
Does it mean :
- history of existing pages will be preserved (new revision
added for last revision of imported page)
- history of imported pages will be preserved and replace local
pages history
- history of imported pages will be preserved as well as local
pages history (concatenation)
I added a line for this in the admin guide, but need to detail the exact
way it works (btw I need to be sure of how it works before importing
pages in my own wiki ;-) )

Hi,
This may not be new to some of you, but it is new to me.
This summer, one of my sites saw many spam 'ad comments' on new user pages. Someone register himself/herself and leave comments on the register new user page (which I should not left open to all).
I guess someone hired summer students to do this, they may want to google bomb with links on many web sites pointing to their sites. So, this 1+1= method did not stop spammers.
I only show user lists to admin, so this attack did not add any value to spammers. I changed the access control, so that visitors can not welcome themselves to be a user.
So, XWiki admins, you are informed. This is just my two cents.

http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Code/ImportUsersFromLDAP
an error message appeared. When I checked it I saw that the Groovy code

So what is intended here: Should Groovy code inside a {code} block be

Hi All,I'm really disappointed by the lack of in depth XWiki developer tutorial.XWiki has been around for a while -- and the only good material I can find is here:http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/FAQTutorialhttp://www.xwi… above links are the level of tutorial I'm looking for -- but they don't go far/long enough....I've followed the FAQTutorial steps and cannot get the example to work as described.I've performed all steps as described -- without error/warning -- but when I try to create a new custom FAQ document -- my class properties (question & answer) are not being shown on the edit/creation page ? It's just blank space with two rows of Cancel/Save-Continue/Save-View etc buttons.* I'm using XWIKI: 1.1-milestone-3.3933* On Windows XP with Apache Tomcat 5.5.12* I'm using MySQL as the database - I think it's UTF8 - Server version: 5.0.13-rc-nt1) When I'm querying the database -- the tables: xwikiproperties - is being populated -- but newly added entries seem to have negative values for XWO_ID column. xwikiobjects - is being populated -- but newly added entries seem to have negative values for XWO_ID column. xwikiclasses - is empty ? why ?2) I would be very grateful to a link to some decent tutorial/documentation -- even if I have to pay for it...It would be great to see something along the lines of the "FAQTutorial" but with more indepth look at available Velocity objects/macros and discussion of how Documents/Classes/Objects/Properties are actually related....I can't believe this stuff isn't better documented :(Hope someone can help me out...ThanksFrank

About the xml import/export function : does the "?xpage=xml" feature uses
the same format as the one used in the *.xar packages ?
In that case, have you got a DTD available somewhere for it ? And/or a
default XSLT for display...
Thank you very much (this is my first message :-).

Hi all!
I am finding metadata format supported in XWiki for search purpose. But I can get nothing...no specific format like Dublin core or MARC. Could you please show me what metadata you follow !
Thanks so much.

Hi,
I tried to use this plugin for the e-mail notification
(www.jkraemer.net/tags/xwiki), but I got this error on my local XWiki
(version 1.1):
Error number 4001 in 4: Error while parsing velocity page Wrapped
Exception: Invocation of method 'processSubscription' in class
net.jkraemer.xwiki.plugins.emailnotify.EmailNotificationPluginApi threw
exception java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
com.xpn.xwiki.objects.classes.BaseClass.newObject()Lcom/xpn/xwiki/objects/BaseCollection;
@ [5,13]
I've seen that plugin was developed for the 0.9 XWiki, so maybe that's
the reason why it's not working. Has anyone else tried to use it? Are
there other ways to have an e-mail notification system in XWiki?
Thanks,
Vito

Hi everybody,
Just to let you know that the tutorial about XWiki has been published on
developpez.com<http://agoncalves.developpez.com/tutoriels/xwiki/creer-un-site-associatif/>website.
It's in french, sorry, maybe one day we could translate it into
english.
I would like to thank Sergiu Dumitriu, François Le Droff and Pascal B for
reading the early draft and giving me their inputs.

Hi Vincent;
That worked perfectly. Minor thing, the PDF opens into the browser
instead of the origional save/view option (most of my users prefer
saving the pdf instead of viewing it) - is this optional, or the new way
that it works?
Current environment:
Using the following:
Tomcat 5.5.17
JDK: 1.5.0 build4
xerces jar on the lib folder: xercesImpl-2.0.2.jar
Not aware of any other xerces jar's in use; but it's possible.

Brandon,
Could you try this new jar? It should work fine although I'm not sure
why... ;)
What JDK are you using on that machine? What container too? Maybe
there's another xerces jar that gets picked up that has a slightly
different behavior...
Thanks

Hi Vincent,
Yes, you're right but according to xwiki-992 at jira.xwiki.org I
thought that issue was not completely settled yet. That's why I decided
for this new thread.
Well, I tried something else! What?
I decided to import xwiki-1.0.xar again. My skin remained intact
because I copied the default skin to a new skin, and I used that at the
very beginning when setting up the wiki about a month ago now. Next I
changed from the default skin to our own one, rearranged the panels,
menus and voila saving the layout and preferences was no more problem!
After that I still had to fine tune the access rights!
Maybe this little experiment is of value to you, any way it seems that
everything is working properly again!
Regards,
Gerard

Hi Gerard,
I thought I had already answered you about this this morning...
I'll repeat my suggestion: try tweaking the HBM file for PostGreSQL.
Alternatively try using a different database (like MYSQL) if you can
as I believe the problem is why PostGreSQL.
Last, check the online mail archives since several people got XWiki
working with PostGreSQL with some tweakings.
Thanks

Hi all,
just to notice you.
I set up virtual servers (XWiki 1.1 rc1) using Jetty and MySQL.
I found out that the name of the database for the main XWiki must be
"xwiki". With different names the virtualization is not working (at
least not for me). Of course I did modify the hibernate.cfg.xml with the
new database names every time.
I thought it was something quite important to know (at least for the
ones that want to use virtualization).
Well, comments (did someone experience the same?) or corrections (I
think I can do mistake ;-) are always welcome.
Thanks to the XWiki project (truly, thanks to the people working and
developing the project).
Best,
Vito
Hi, I am a newcomer to Xwiki.
I want some page created to be based on a template and so I created
class and class sheet. It works, but if I put a link in page A (based
on template) to page B, this link is not referenced in backlinks of page
B. If page A is not based on template, the link is referenced.
What is wrong?

Hi XWiki Users,
I try to start a new thread about this problem, because the problem is
very urgent.
This matter has been a topic around April this year as I found at
jira.xwiki.org (key: xwiki-992: Cannot save new panel layout while
logged in as Admin), but wasn't really solved if I understand it all
well!
I experience problems saving both my layout and preferences, getting
the following message:
Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while saving document
XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: Could not execute JDBC batch update
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while

Our consideration using xwiki for our institute's wiki site is in
danger because of this error! Currently I'm unable to continue
configuring it properly.
I use XWiki version 1.0.3342 in combination with PostgreSQL-8.2, TomCat
5.5 and jdk-6u2!
The strange thing is that it has been working properly at the
beginning. Setting up the layout, preferences, and saving it all wasn't
a problem!
Thanks!

Gerard
