Hi all,
Just upgraded our validation servers to the current version (1.0B4 to
1.1RC1) - the problem is, since upgrading versions the PDF printer
always returns a blank web page.
Any idea's on how to get this functional again? This is using the
default Albatross skin at the moment.

Hi Gerard,
I've never used postgre SQL but it's possible it requires some tuning
with the xwiki.hbm.xml files. I thought we had some already tuned
files but apparently not.
Maybe some current postgre sql users can help?
You could also try searching the mail archives as I'm pretty sure
that's been covered in the past.
Thanks

Hi Vincent,
You're perfectly right! I got confused because I test things on a local
machine first, before applying them to our wiki. The test platform uses
the 1.0-beta release of XWiki, that seems to behave differently!
I do apologyze for my error, sorry!

Gerard

Hoi Vincent,
Thanks for your response! I indeed followed the installation
instructions as presented on www.xwiki.org, but maybe did something
wrong.
The strange thing is that at the beginning saving the layout and
preferences has been working properly!
The WEB-INF/hibernate.cfg.xml applied contains this part among other
things:
<property
name="connection.url">jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/xwiki</property>
....
<property
name="connection.driver_class">org.postgresql.Driver</property>
<property
name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQLDialect</property>
<property
name="connection.provider_class">com.xpn.xwiki.store.DBCPConnectionProvider</property>
<property name="connection.pool_size">2</property>
<property name="statement_cache.size">2</property>
<mapping resource="xwiki.hbm.xml"/>
<mapping resource="feeds.hbm.xml"/>
I indeed am a bit in doubt about whether this is correct or not!

Gerard

Are you using the Postgre SQL HBM files as indicated in the
installation notes?
If not that would explain the errors.
Thanks

Hi guys,
About supporting the languages with context highlighting (and other
useful IDE features): if you put an extension on the temporary file when
it's opened in eclipse (based on content, either .vm or .groovy) then
you don't really have to worry about the language support.
The existing vm and groovy plugins should take care of this from there;
and they're fairly simple to install and use.
In the meantime, this tool is saving me a good chunk of time with my
xwiki tasks - thanks again!

Hi,
Very excited by this new plugin.. Will make a lot of my
day-to-day xwiki
modifications much easier.
A few small questions:
1) Is there a minimum supported XWiki version?
XEclipse will work with xwiki 1.1 m1 and above.
2) Velocity/Groovy support: will this interfere with the groovy
and/or
the velocity syntax plugin?
Currently XEclipse does not support these features. But you can refer to
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Code/XEclipseExtension about what
features are on the road map.
3) Server name: must this point to the
"xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome"
location, or just the "\xwiki"? Both don't login for me, but I
am
running an older version on the server I'm testing with.
it should be /xwiki/xmlrpc/confluence. I will add this info to above
page soon.
Try this out and if you have more problems get back to us.
Thanks.

Dear XWiki Users,
Normally I view our XWiki from FireFox, but when I watched it using IE,
I noticed a link (.../Main/BLogRss?xpage=rdf) while clicking the title
of a newly defined menu. However, this link seems not to be there when I
log in as administrator! I discarded the menu and generated a new one,
and dragged it to the desired location.
After that I was no longer able to save the layout. I don't know
whether this strange behaviour is a simple coincidence!
When trying to save the layout I get (Windows XP) a popup window
appears displaying the message: An error occurred while trying to save
the panel layout!
Clicking the OK button of this popup displayes an exception error that
starts as:
Wrapped Exception: Invocation of method 'save' in class
com.xpn.xwiki.api.Document threw exception com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException:
Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while saving document
XWiki.XWikiPreferences. ......
In addition when I want to save my preferences while being
administrator I get the following error (part!):
Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while saving document
XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: Could not execute JDBC batch update
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while
saving document XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: Could not execute JDBC batch update

By the way saving preferences as well as a new panel layout has been
working properly on this instance of XWiki!
Has anybody any idea? How can I start saving my new panel
definitions/preferences again? By the way, I use XWiki version 1.0.3342
in combination with PostgreSQL-8.2, TomCat 5.5 and jdk-6u2! Thanks!

Hoi XWiki Users,
Because I couldn't find any clear answer to my problem on
www.xwiki.org, I turn to this list!
I want to define a new class, and have reached:
The first thing to do is to Edit the Class to add properties to it.
When I hit Edit the Class I get the Administration tabs nothing more!?
So my question is how to add properties?
Regards,
Gerard

Hi all,
Fighting to be able to follow the development process of the product and
fulfil some of our users' requirements!
I've a group that need to share a calendar. A quite frequent requirement.
The EventCalendarApplication developed by Guillaume could help us to
solve this problem and sticks with XWiki, but I would like to know if
any further development is expected for it. One more time I must
recognize that I am still far from being able to help with this
development, but I keep trying to catch up. This application adds
Microformats to my to-do list... :-(
What we need now in addition to the current features is to filter events
on an user/group basis. That is, to apply rights on an event basis. As
far as I see, if I set any access rights now, they will apply to the
whole calendar.
Google calendar offers a nice option to be accessed from several
calendar clients as iCal, Sunbird or Thunderbird. Has anybody considered
to develop a XWiki client to access Google calendars?
Thank you for your insight,

ps. xwiki plugin very interesting
Hi!
While building an xwiki plugin I started getting some errors after
switcing to the maven.xwiki.org repository. Earlier I just downloaded
the jar file from xwiki.org. The dependency errors I get look like this
[ERROR] BUILD ERROR
[INFO]

[INFO] Failed to resolve artifact.

Try downloading the file manually from the project website.
Then, install it using the command:
mvn install:install-file -DgroupId=gnujaxp -DartifactId=gnujaxp \
-Dversion=1.0.0 -Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file
Alternatively, if you host your own repository you can deploy the file
there: mvn deploy:deploy-file -DgroupId=gnujaxp -DartifactId=gnujaxp \
-Dversion=1.0.0 -Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file \

4) jsr170:jcr:jar:1.0

2 required artifacts are missing.
Some googling leads me to believe that the jsr170 dependency is an
error, and shouldn't be there.
Anybody else experiencing this? Maybe somebody knows how to solve this
problem?
best regards :-)

Hoi,
The problem with the strange link in my newly generated menu has been
solved. It was caused by a typo in the panel code, sorry!
The saving problem however remains, although it seems that the
preferences are being saved, despite the exception error!
The layout of the various panels on the left/right edges of the screen
cannot be saved anymore using the PanelWizard.
IE crashes when saving the preferences, while FireFox keeps running.
Please can anybody help me solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Gerard

Dear XWiki Users,
Normally I view our XWiki from FireFox, but when I watched it using
IE,
I noticed a link (.../Main/BLogRss?xpage=rdf) while clicking the
title
of a newly defined menu. However, this link seems not to be there when
I
log in as administrator! I discarded the menu and generated a new one,
and dragged it to the desired location. .....

Hi,
My XWiki website has been spammed with more than 200 (porn) comments on the
main page. I didn't want to put any access restriction on comments thinking
that the world was a better place and that anybody could comment :o) Well,
I was wrong and I'm gonna change the user rights.
How can I safely delete all these comments (by hand it will take me ages) ?
Thanks,
Antonio

Hi Vincent,
I think this should also be mentioned here:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Community/Contributing
as one of the easiest ways of contributing to XWiki.
Also, I'm forwarding your email to the XWiki Users mailing list, since
they can help on this too :)

Hi
I have a couple of questions.
1) in XWiki.XWikiPreferences > parameters > language, can I add many
languages separated by a comma (such as "fr,en")? (My default language is
"en".)
2) I have a page that shows "en" "en" and "fr" on top (I run a pre-1.0
version, more on that later). Exploring MySQL DB shows effectively 3
documents:
mysql> select XWD_ID, XWD_LANGUAGE, XWD_TRANSLATION, XWD_DEFAULT_LANGUAGE
from xwikidoc where XWD_NAME='WebHome' AND XWD_WEB='Main';
+------------+--------------+-----------------+----------------------+
| XWD_ID | XWD_LANGUAGE | XWD_TRANSLATION | XWD_DEFAULT_LANGUAGE |
+------------+--------------+-----------------+----------------------+
| 1807025832 | fr | 1 | |
| 1807025797 | en | 1 | |
| -114121954 | | 0 | en |
+------------+--------------+-----------------+----------------------+
The only one I care about is the French (fr) one. I could easily delete
the other two to start with. How can I fix this?
Is is enough to delete all three rows and start over from XWiki('s
interface)?
3) I migrated successfully to 1.1rc1. I followed all the instructions
from the website (very thorough explanations, kudos!). That includes
importing the panel application, some pages from the full XAR package. I
also replaced the core jar file. Everything went fine data-wise, as far as
I can see. I have noticed 1 issue though:
- for some reason I can't use the albatross skin. This skin is defined in
xwiki.cfg, XWiki.DefaultSkin is in preferences (I also tried to replace it
with xwikibu10 or so, following the documentation steps). In the current
system it is the default skin is used ("default" is set in preferences).
However, I had done some work on a customized Skin and it is this custom
skin that shows up on the migrated wiki (I have no idea why). I can't see
it from the HTML source code but I have no clue why XWiki decides to use
this skin when something else is defined in preferences (and in
xwiki.cfg). I give up. Where should I look?
Thanks. XWiki has really improved from last year. Great job!

Hi all,
I am considering XWiki for a collaborative mapping IT infrastructure
and planning changes.
The idea behind that is as follows: few times a year, a team of
central architecture group and organization units specific
stakeholders want to review the existing infrastructure map,
requirements collected in third party tools and propose changes.
My tool should support only this documentation and planning
part, implementation of proposed changes would be supported
by other tools.
If I use a wiki to manage such a documentation and planning project,
I need pages for individual documents, I need some index pages for
different kinds of documents, and I need also pages for project
metadata (team members, milestones, processes). Also, I need a set
of templates to generate stubs of new projects easily. Perhaps such
a project could be implemented as a wiki space, and there could be
an extra wiki space as a template.
I am very new to Xwiki, so I would like to ask the more experienced users:
- Does my idea of mapping projects to spaces sense?
- Is Xwiki suitable for that?
- Is it possible to define something like a template space and customize
the new space wizard to use such a template?
One more question: is there any mechanism/best-practice how to keep my
Xwiki extensions (plugins, Xwiki classes, templates, ...) isolated somehow
to make future upgrades of Xwiki as easy as possible?
thanks a lot,
Pavel

Hello all.
I've installed the default pages xar. Everything is working as far as I can
tell.
But, after editing categories to something usefull (name and description),
the Blog page still shows Categories like
$bcategory<http://dnc1v2/xwiki/bin/view/Blog/Category?category=$%7Bbcategory%7D>,
except for News which is shown correctly.
So what's going on? I'm new here and can't figure this out... please help.
Thanks.

Hi!
I'm a new xwiki user and have a scenario where I'm offline (not connected to
the internet) and need to see the xwiki documentation in order to install,
extend, create plugins, etc.. Is there any way to export the xwiki

Hello,
I would like to perform a sum in a velocity script.
The following works well:
#set ($a = 1)
#set ($b = 1)
#set ($c= $a + $b)
$c returns 2
But if I modify with
#set ($b = $categoryDoc.getObject("Blog.Categories","name",$bcategory).get("color_red"))
... the sum does not work anymore. It seems that $b is considered as a string and gets appended to $a instead of added. The property retrieved "color_red" is of type Number.
Is there a way to convert it in order to perform arithmetics on it ? I looked at velocity dev guide but I'm quite confused ...

Can you check:
- that you have enough disk space left
- that the file didn't reach the file size limit of your filesystem (4G for FAT)
- that the file isn't locked by another program, like an antivirus
- that the database is not in a bad state (use a mysql checking tool)

Hi All,
Since Monday, i have been constantly checking Nabble and www.xwiki.org for
news on the 1.1RC1 release.
On a lighter note, i feel like asking "Are we there yet" (kinda like the
donkey in Shrek) every few minutes :)
Is it just me? Coz i guess i need therapy in that case!
Looks like i am getting addicted to Xwiki...sigh...

How can I change another users password?
I see Vincent Massol's FAQ about this:
"logon as admin user, go to Admin -> Users -> Current users and select
the user you wish to reset the password for. When the User Profile
screen appears, click 'Edit this page'. This will allow you to enter a
new password."
But after I log in as Admin, find the users profile, and go into Edit
mode, all I see is "#includeForm("XWiki.XWikiUserSheet")" in Wiki &
WYSIWYG mode.

Hi group,
I have few queries regarding Lucene(using in XWiki for search) though I am
not sure this is the right list for them.
* Is it possible to search for let's say A*. It seems Lucene is ignoring the
* and searching for A(probably for optimization).
Please note that other regular expression search works.
* Also how do I set a default field for searching in Lucene through
velocity?
Any help is much appreciable.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi, we're looking into using Xwiki to replace part of a large Microsoft
Exchange setup. The users email large (sometimes 50MB) attachments back and
forth to each other and in and out of the company, ballooning the size of
the Exchange database, making it too large, corruption-prone, unwieldy, and
nearly impossible to back up and/or restore. The fundamental problem with
using Exchange for this (beyond the fact that it doesn't provide all the
other inherent benefits of a wiki) is that it stores EVERYTHING -- email,
attachments, etc., all in one file. We're looking into doing an Xwiki setup
to prevent sending these attachments back and forth so much, but my limited
ability to audit Xwiki has resulted in me thinking that Xwiki does the same
(stores everything in one file/database). Is there any way to store pages
in individual files, more like Xwiki's progenitor, Twiki? Or at least for
attachments?
Thanks!

So
1) you uploaded your new image (say, "mylogo.png") and
2) you edited the skin page in object mode and changed logo.png with
mylogo.png, saved the page and it still does not work properly, right ?
if you're working on your own install you may want to look into
xwiki-enterprise-1.1-milestone-1-hsqldb\xwiki-enterprise-1.1-milestone-1\webapps\xwiki\skins\albatrossand
put your own logo there...

Hi everyone,
We're currently undergoing mailing lists migration. As you've
observed we've had some issues in the past and we're setting up a new
mailing list server and new lists.
We're automatically existing subscribers so you won't have anything
to do.
You'll just need to use the new lists when they're up.
We'll send more information real soon.
Thanks

Hi,
I am working on XWiki. Presently the search tool for searching in attachment contents is case sensitive .If I want to make it case insensitive, what changes I have to make in its code.
Here is the code for attachment content search in xwiki.
Search in attachment file content
#set($sql= ", XWikiAttachment attach, XWikiAttachmentContent as attachc where doc.id = attach.docId and attach.id = attachc.id and attachc.content like '%$text%' ")
#foreach ( $item in $xwiki.searchDocuments($sql , $nb , $start))
#if ($xwiki.hasAccessLevel("view", $context.user, "${context.database}:${item}"))
#set($bentrydoc = $xwiki.getDocument($item)) * [$bentrydoc.name>${bentrydoc.web}.$bentrydoc.name] by
$xwiki.getLocalUserName($bentrydoc.author) on $xwiki.formatDate($bentrydoc.date, $formatDate)
#end
#end
Thanks,

Hi,
Just wanted to explain my current strategy for FAQs on xwiki.org.
Whenever I review FAQ pages I do the following:
1) Check if there's a page in the wiki that discusses the question
mentioned in the FAQ page
2) If there is, remove the FAQ content and instead link to that page.
If there were more information in the FAQ entry, move that
information to the page proper
3) if there isn't, then create a new page, in the user guide, dev
guide or admin guide and then go to step 2.
IMO this is the best strategy for the best of both world:
1) Have a comprehensive documentation
2) Prevent duplication
3) Still keep the FAQ entries so that people can find them easily
using google or the wiki search and then get directed to the relevant
documentation page.
All help is welcome!
Thanks

Hello,
I am working on creating blog entries using xwiki. I was wondering if it would be possible to create a template for the blog entries so that they will be more structured.
Thank you for your time and help!

Hi Wiki Users,
How can I center an inserted image on a page? Default seems to be left
aligned!

Hi,
In the XWiki application I developed, I am using Lucene plugin for search. Once the search result comes I am getting the document as follows:
#set($myDoc = $xwiki.getDocument($item.name))
When I print $myDoc it prints "com.xpn.xwiki.api.Document@1f16eab".
So I assume I am getting the document all right. Now I want to get the Object of the document so that I can display the properties of that document. But the following code doesn't work.
#set($myObj = $myDoc.getObject("xxxx.xxxxClass"))
$myObj doesn't contain the object after the above code is executed.
Any idea what's the problem?
Any help is much appreciated,
- Raj

Dear Xwiki Users,
Probably this is not the correct list to ask this question, but anyway
I hope someone can give me a hint!
I've problems redirecting our basic URL to basic
URL/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome using Tomcat 5.5.20?
I've tried HTTPRedirectFilter but it doesn't seem to work! I followed
the instructions as described at
http://www.zlatkovic.com/httpredirectfilter.en.html, but without
success!
Thanks in advance!

Gerard

Hi,
The display is wrong when I use 4 {code} tag. (it was
working with 1.1M2)
For exemple this xwiki code:

1.1 Préparation
Je crée l'image iso du CD d'installation de Windows
2000:

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/iso/win2000_sp4.iso

count=4096

Je crée le fichier de conf du serveur 2000:
/etc/xen/win2000_sp4
{code}
kernel = "/usr/lib/xen-3.0.3-1/boot/hvmloader"
builder = 'hvm'
{code}
boot= 'd' signifie que l'on boot sur le CD en

display this big "grey thing":

PS: I am trying to send this mail from yesterday. I sent once through from wem based email. My friend sent once. Now I am sending it again through the post interface on object web. It seems I am in moderation as I am a new user. But when I joined the list I didn't get any notice like that. Anyway if you get multiple mails please excuse me.
Hi
How can I create my own macro in my xwiki (say, a macro for adding two numbers). Where should I write it. So that I can use it from any page ?

No it isn't fixed. I said: it isn't work in xwiki M4
(xwiki-web-standard-1.1-milestone-4-hsqldb.war)
either.
For testing, I created a new space but the Specific
Space Access Rights doesn't work.

Hello,
I am working on creating blog entries using xwiki. I was wondering if it
would be possible to create a template for the blog entries so that they
will be more structured?
Thank you for your time and help!

I'm running XWiki 1.1 milestone 4 with Apache Derby under Tomcat 5.5 on
Windows XP. I can start up XWiki, import the default XAR and start
making changes. Everything is working fine until I restart the webapp.
When it comes back up, it's a blank wiki again. The default XAR
content, and any changes I made, are gone.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Brian.
Hi Guillaume,

Hi Gerard,
Address = URL
For instance, http://blog.xwiki.com would be the address of your blog
and
http://www.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Main/BlogRssEn?xpage=rdf would be
the
address of your RSS feed...
You can also check this video
http://www.dotsub.com/films/inplainenglish/index.php for more
information
about RSS...

Hello,
Blog = the address to the user's blog, which will be displayed as a
link in the user profile
Blog feed = address to the atom/rss feed of that blog, that will be
syndicated on the user's profile page, in a box, like the one you can
see on the default /xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/Admin page.

Hi,
First time XWiki user. I had previously demo'ed Milestone 3 on a different
computer and it worked fine. Milestone 4 I cannot save edits to a page from
the WYSIWYG interface. I'm logged in as Admin and on the default first page
and saves from the WIKI interface are working. I was using JRE 1.6 and have
now backed down to JRE 1.5 without success. I have not opened a bug yet.
Thank you,
David

Hello,
I'm new in the mail list.
I use XWiki to save and organize my personal documentation.
To write pages, I use the Wiki editor because I can insert HTML code
easily or specific style that I use often.
I had added new buttons in the toolbar of Wiki editor (albatross skin)
and if that interest you, the compressed file is attached to this mail
(deploy it in albatross directory).
Screen shot in attached png file.
Thanks
Charles
Hello,
I'm playing around with a locally installed copy of Xwiki 1.0. I couldn't
locate a solution to my two part problem in the archives.
I lost my edit menu drop down list (WYSIWYG, XWiki, Form, Object, etc.) on
each page. All the other drop downs (Show, Admin, ..) have drop down
entries.
Also, when I click on edit and I am in the edit mode (e.g. URL contains
".../edit/Main/WebHome"),
there's no object tab available among the WYSIWY, XWiki, Form, etc. tabs,
however, I'm able to enter this edit mode by adding "?editor=object" to the
end of the URL.
How can I go about fixing this problem? Aside from reinstalling cleanly!
Thanks for your time.

I would like to let all members of a group being able to add new users
into the same group. As far as I can see this is not possible with the
current version. Would this feature be achievable with scripting, or
does it require som API changes?
If this can be scripted, please give me som pointers.
The XWiki development team team is pleased to announce the
availability of the 1.1 Milestone 4 release of XWiki Enterprise
Go grab it on http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download
Main changes:
* New experimental Lucene Search page. It adds scoring,
searching into attachments (including Office documents), search
paging and more (performance improvements, more customizable search
results, etc). This search page is meant to become the default in the
near future. It's currently experimental as we want to ensure it
fully works as well as the old search. We need your help. Please let
us know on the XWiki mailing list, on IRC, or on this wiki if you
have any comments (positive or negative about it). This new page is
located in Main.LuceneSearch. You can also edit the Panels.Search
page so that the search is done with the Lucene search by default.
* Diff improvements. Diffs are now shown at the level of words.
* Added an option to open external link to new window. Default
is in the same window.
* When deleting a page, the list of pages that will be orphaned
are displayed
* Added a wiki text mode in the WYSIWYG editor
* Code macro now escapes everything (wiki syntax, HTML, Groovy,
Velocity, other Radeox macros)
* New option to preserve previous version during document import
* Several XMLRPC fixes and improvements
* MacroMapping renderer is enabled by default
* Added plaincode template allowing to access the source of a
page without any encoding
* Option not to display the login screen
* Allow {style} macros to be nested
* Fullscreen editing in both wiki and WYSIWYG editors
* Scheduler plugin added (but no UI yet)
* New XMLRPC removeSpace() API
* New Quick Links Panel with links to common useful pages
* New "My Recent Modifications" Panel
* Moved Orphaned Pages inside the AllDocs page as a new tab
* Improved navigation by adding the Quick Links Panel + My
Recent Modifications Panel to the side menu and removed the
Navigation panel from the default layout
* Improved the Tag page
* Search also searches on page names now
* Added new RSS Feeds page to list all feeds available on the wiki
+ lot more (over a 100 in total)

Thanks for the tip! I also see that there's an xwiki plugin over at

using this api. Good job! This is probably just what I was looking for.

Hi,
I am still testing the XMLRPC interface. This the first result I have noticed:
1.There are some messages that are not implemented:
-public Map getUser(String token, String username);
-public void addGroup(String token, String group);
-public Object[] getUserGroups(String token, String username);
-public void addUserToGroup(String token, String username, String groupname);
2.To make the update or the creation of a page work normally, I have to get the content of a page and to modify his element to have the result I want. This is linked with the fact that we have to use a Map Object to define a page or Map is an interface. So the other solution I haven't tested is to implement the interface Map instead of getting a page and modifying it.
3.For "public Object[] getComments(String token, String pageId);" I have some problem to make it work normally.
4.Another result is that I have to flush the cash very often in order to make the Update and creation of a page work. If I don't do that I have to restart my server to see the changes. When all work correct with a login/logout, we see the changes.
5.When I try to get the content of a document created by a Class, I get the content of the Template linked to the Class. I don't know if this is normal or not.
I don't know if there are other people testing the interface XMLRPC, but if this can give more information to someone... If there is other things I don't know that can help, any suggestion will be welcomed.
Bye
Hi everyone!

Hi!
I'm trying to make xwiki do something (run a line of velocity code)
after somebody has successfully saved an xwiki document. Does anybody
know of a way to hook into xwikis internal mechanisms when this has
taken place?
In fact, any insight at all in the request-response loop of xwiki
(especially during save) would be very helpful!
cheers :-)

Hi,
We had a problem yesterday morning with our xWiki. I exported all pages to a xar file, reinstalled xwiki and imported the xar file but after a long time it says:
No documents found in the selected archive
Any ideas?

Is the example AD configuration in the Wiki the right way to do things?
My understanding is that the bind_DN and bind_pass are for setting the
username and password XWiki will use to connect to the LDAP server in
order to do a search, then the UID_attr field is searched for the
username entered on the form.
If that is correct then the bind_dn and bind_pass should either be
hardcoded to a special AD user with restricted privileges, or left blank
to bind anonymously. (I see no mention of anonymous binding?)
For the first of these XWiki connects to AD ok but then seems to
'authenticate OK' whatever username/password I enter on the form even if
the user does not exist in AD at all. Is this a bug?
I can't seem to get anonymous binding to work - if I leave bind_dn and
bind_pass empty or comment out the entries entirely I always get the
'LDAP Bind failed with Exception Invalid Credentials' error message. My
LDAP server does allow anonymous binding - I've tested this in LDAP Browser.

Hi all,
I hope I can get some help on this as I really don't know what to do...
I'm making the last preparations to move my experimental xwiki to another machine for actual use but my Imports don't work. I can make a backup.xar file using the Export tool but as I try to import it again I get a huge error message. I tried attaching it and sending it with this mail but I got it back because it was too large... The first part of it goes like this:
Error number 3232 in 3: Exception while saving attachment Backup.xar of document XWiki.Import
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3231 in 3: Exception while loading attachment Backup.xar of document XWiki.Import
Wrapped Exception: exception setting property value with CGLIB (set hibernate.cglib.use_reflection_optimizer=3Dfalse for more info) setter of com.xpn.xwiki.doc.XWikiAttachmentArchive.setArchive
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3232 in 3: Exception while saving attachment Backup.xar of document XWiki.Import
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3231 in 3: Exception while loading attachment Backup.xar of document XWiki.Import
Wrapped Exception: exception setting property value with CGLIB (set hibernate.cglib.use_reflection_optimizer=3Dfalse for more info) setter of com.xpn.xwiki.doc.XWikiAttachmentArchive.setArchive
After searching the mailinglist archives I've tried the following:
- set the -Xms512m to -Xmx521m in catalina.sh
- remove documents with Swedish carachters in their names
- made a much smaller .xar file by changing the package.xml file and only including what I left in there.
- imported old backups that I know worked back then, but it gives me the same error as all the others.
I'm using MySQL, Tomcat, XWiki 1.0 and it has all worked before... Please help!
Thanks,
//Karin
Hi all,
I've followed the install procedure for XWiki 1.1 milestone 3 - using
HSQL and OC4J. It works in that I can go to
/xwiki
and I get a page 'XWiki Installation' with links to Installation
Instructions and the XWiki Home Page.
The next step according to the documentation is to import the default
wiki XAR file. But when I go to:
xwiki/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences
I get a '500 Internal Server Error' along with:
'Servlet error: An exception occurred. The current application
deployment descriptors do not allow for including it in this response.
Please consult the application log for details.'
The xwiki.log file shows the following message:
11:24:11,716 [AJPRequestHandler-RMICallHandler-6] WARN
action.RequestProcessor - Unhandled Exception thrown: class
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException
Any suggestions please?
Thanks
Neil
Hello group,
I want to use UTF-8 data in XWiki. It seems it is not recognizing it.
I tried to import unicode data to XWiki (by importing a xar file created
programatically). But export fails with an exception. I tried changing
the xwiki.cfg encoding to utf-8 but to no effect.

Hi!
I'm trying to use $xwiki.getURLContent() but I can't make it to work.
I've tried both from velocity, like this:
#set ($response = $xwiki.getURLContent("http://mysite.com"))
$response
...and invoking the xwiki code from a plugin, like this:
public String getUrlContent(String url) throws IOException {
String content = "";
try {
content = context.getWiki().getURLContent(url, context);
} catch (Exception e) {
//ooops
}
return content;
}
I've been testing with a URL that points to a web server of mine, and
according to the log, no request is done by the above code. Can anyone
tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I installed xwiki and there are no users installed and no option to create new users. The user's page is empty. The only way I found to work was to allow the superuser account but there is no other user and now way to add users.

Hi all,
What is the delete access right supposed to do? It doesn't seem to do
anything currently, at least in 1.0. In the albatross skin, if I enable
delete rights in a space for a non-admin, the delete button does not
appear for that user. Thanks ...

I am trying to run xwiki with Ingres, for this I have converted file
xwiki-db-0.9.2.sql to ingres compatible format. And I ran this file on
Ingres database. I have everything else in place: drivers, configuration in
hibernate.cfg.xml etc...
My app server is JBoss 4.0.5, so when I start xwiki I get:

so i removed connection.provider_class property from hibernate.cfg.xml.
Afterwards when i tried running xwiki i got this exception and xwiki page is
not coming:
18:11:49,447 ERROR [JDBCExceptionReporter] line 1, Table 'xwikidoc' owned by
'advait.trivedi' does not contain column 'xwd_default_template'.

I noticed that this column is not part of "create table" sql but somehow it
is getting added to the table definition afterwards. Because i noticed this
column using "describe xwikidoc" mysql command. Please help

Hi,
I'm using Albatross and I have no idea why the panels disappear in editing and administration modes. They just aren't there and it seems the Panel Wizard can't change that.

It depends on what do you mean by "elsewhere". Please give an example of
such a place, a use case.
A colleague of mine is developing a search engine and the search results are presented on a web page. The idea is to connect his search engine to my xwiki and I would like to be able to import the web pages where the results are presented and show them in the xwiki environement (with the xwiki layout).

I am having a lot of problems using the raw wiki format to print lists.
The examples don't seem to work as documented. Any ideas?

* Then I guess you have the same issue when editing pages since the
navigation on the right disappears? How do you want to solve that?
Yes, it's a problem there too. I want to solve it by constantly showing the same menu, wherever the user goes
* I've noticed that on the Admin page there's a big blank space on
the right. We shouldn't have that. Either we should put the normal
navigation there or use the full space for the admin screens. I think
we should use the full space.
I think showing the menu at all times is better. Giving users the same way to do stuff (such as navigate) wherever they are in the system is good usability practice. I'd say it's preferable that the desicions on what panels to show, and where, should apply on every single page in the wiki. In whatever kind of mode you're in.
Back to your question, you can click on the Space in the breadcrumbs
or on the logo to go to the home page or cancel/save. What more would
you like and where?
Ah, but see the breadcrumbs aren't always showing the directory I took to get to a certain page. Example: I'm at "Main: Welcome > All Documents of this Wiki" when
I realize I should change the rights for a certain user group, so I press Administration and the breadcrumbs are "XWiki: Administration > Preferences" and I can't use them to get back to "All Documents of this Wiki".
The logo takes me to "Main: Welcome" which is also not the place I wanted to go.
Say I change the rights a bit and press Save, I get directed to "XWiki: Administration". If i hit Cancel instead I end up at "Main: Welcome"
Not what I'm looking for when I want to get back to "Main: Welcome > All Documents of this Wiki".
What more would I like? A set of panels (navigation or otherwise) always showing on the side of my choice.
Hopefully I'll have enough time to perform a proper usability test. If my boss lets me I'd love to share the results with you.

Hi,
Two quick questions:
How would a pom-file look for the hello world plugin (from the devGuide) for building it with maven?
Is there a plug-in (or snippet or script or something, anything) to import web pages from elsewhere and show them in the xwiki?
Thanks,
//Karin
Hi,
I successfully swapped the xwiki logo for our company logo in the
albatross skin, but is there a very quick way to get rid of the birds in
the banner please (or even replace them)? Swapping the black-birds.png
doesn't seem to work?
TIA
John

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has coded object removal as yet (for documents other
than the current one)? Basically, two documents both having the same
object, when one document removes it's corresponding object I'm trying
to remove the "paired" object in another document.
NOTE: this is on a local xwiki install.
Trying to do it with the following:
($f_docName and $objid are set further up to be a valid document and a
valid id of the object in that document; same info as would be used by a
deleteobject url)
#set($f_linkDoc=$xwiki.getDocument($f_docName))
#set($f_removeObject=$f_linkDoc.getObject("XWiki.LinkObject",
$xwiki.parseInt("${objid}")))
$f_linkDoc.addObjectsToRemove($f_removeObject)
$f_linkDoc.save()
In the above, I know that "$f_removeObject" seems valid (checking the
result of $f_removeObject.getProperty("track").value returns the
expected value for the other document).
Also, "$f_linkDoc" is valid by extension, I would guess - otherwise the
"$f_removeObject" would be invalid when checking a property value using
Either way, when I run the above code I get an output of:
$f_linkDoc.addObjectsToRemove($f_removeObject)
Is there something else I should be doing to delete objects manually?
Or perhaps this is not possible via velocity?
I want translate Main Space in "Accueil" but XWiki
doesn't work after that: the logo is linked on
Main.WebHome the search doesn't work anymore others
surprises...
Thxs for ur help
Pascal

Hi there,
Working to solve my SecurityExceptions running on a shared hosting, I
tried to create a similar environment on my local Tomcat. The problem is
not solved, but what I got so far may be useful for some XWiki users.
After running "server.bat -security" I started getting errors related to
Log4J already described by other threads on the mailing list archive,
which I solved this way:
1. Take the log4j.properties from WEB-INF/lib/xwiki.jar and put it as
WEB-INF/classes. The Servlet API specs state that WEB-INF/classes comes
in the web app classpath before jar files placed in WEB-INF/lib.
2. Changed so the log file gets an absolute path under the web app context:
log4j.appender.file.File=C:/java/apache-tomcat-5.5.23/webapps/xwiki/xwiki.log
3. The default security config don't let an application write to its own
files, so I had to add to Tomcat calatina.polity
grant codeBase "file:${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-" {
permission java.io.FilePermission
"c:/java/apache-tomcat-5.5.23/webapps/xwiki/-", "read,write,delete";
};
And them when I start XWiki I get the same error I get from my hosting
provider, that is:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Error number 3 in 0: Could not
initialize main XWiki context
Wrapped Exception: access denied (java.io.FilePermission
\WEB-INF\xwiki.cfg read)
Note that you could have used System Properties in the policy file, such as:
grant codeBase "file:${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-" {
permission java.io.FilePermission
"${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-", "read,write,delete";
};
And you could have specified a file path completely outside the context
tree, which would be better from a security standpoint.
Then I though: Why not adding a permission to "/WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg" so
the (buggy) XWiki configuration file access code works as it would
without a Security Manager?
The changes to catalina.policy become:
grant codeBase "file:${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-" {
permission java.io.FilePermission
"${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-", "read,write,delete";
permission java.io.FilePermission "/WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg", "read";
};
And the result is:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Error number 3 in 0: Could not
initialize main XWiki context
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3001 in 3: Cannot load store class
com.xpn.xwiki.store.XWikiHibernateStore
Wrapped Exception: access denied (java.io.FilePermission
\WEB-INF\hibernate.cfg.xml read)
Hey, XWiki reads the Hibernate configuration file the same way it reads
it's own configuration file... I guess it shouldn't, but let's apply the
same workaround:
permission java.io.FilePermission "/WEB-INF/hibernate.cfg.xml",
"read";
And then I get:
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3 in 0: Could not initialize
main XWiki context
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3202 in 3: Exception while reading
document XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: Could not create a DBCP pool
com.xpn.xwiki.XWiki.getMainXWiki(XWiki.java:291)
com.xpn.xwiki.XWiki.getXWiki(XWiki.java:383)
com.xpn.xwiki.web.XWikiAction.execute(XWikiAction.java:96)
My DBCP Pool config should be ok because the same local XWiki instance
runs fine without a security manager. Probably I need something else
(that is, not a java.io.FilePermission) to reach the local MySQL
database. Hum, who knows using an embebed HSQLDB would be a workaround....
Digging into Tomcat logs, I found:
java.net.SocketException: java.security.AccessControlException: access
denied (java.net.SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:3306 connect,resolve)
at
com.mysql.jdbc.StandardSocketFactory.connect(StandardSocketFactory.java:151)
at com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlIO.<init>(MysqlIO.java:280)
at com.mysql.jdbc.Connection.createNewIO(Connection.java:1765)
at com.mysql.jdbc.Connection.<init>(Connection.java:430)
at
com.mysql.jdbc.NonRegisteringDriver.connect(NonRegisteringDriver.java:268)
Which leads to a new permission:
permission java.net.SocketPermission "127.0.0.1:3306", "connect,
resolve";
And now to a different exception:
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3 in 0: Could not initialize
main XWiki context
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3202 in 3: Exception while reading
document XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: net.sf.ehcache.CacheException: Cannot configure
CacheManager:
jar:file:/C:/java/apache-tomcat-5.5.23/webapps/xwiki/WEB-INF/lib/xwiki.jar!/ehcache.xml:12:
Could not set attribute "path".
com.xpn.xwiki.XWiki.getMainXWiki(XWiki.java:291)
com.xpn.xwiki.XWiki.getXWiki(XWiki.java:383)
com.xpn.xwiki.web.XWikiAction.execute(XWikiAction.java:96)
Another configuration file to migrate to WEB-INF/classes. Changed it so
ehcache never uses disk:
<ehcache>
<!--
<diskStore path="java.io.tmpdir"/>
-->
<defaultCache
maxElementsInMemory="10000"
eternal="false"
overflowToDisk="false"
timeToIdleSeconds="120"
timeToLiveSeconds="120"
<!--
diskPersistent="true"
-->
diskPersistent="false"
diskExpiryThreadIntervalSeconds="120"
/>
</ehcache>
And I got stuck to a reflection error inside Struts:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Error number 3 in 0: Could not
initialize main XWiki context
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3202 in 3: Exception while reading
document XWiki.XWikiPreferences
Wrapped Exception: access denied (java.lang.reflect.ReflectPermission
suppressAccessChecks)
org.apache.struts.action.RequestProcessor.processException(RequestProcessor.java:535)
Well, I know a number of Struts applications that run in shared hosting
plans. There should be a way out of this.
But as I was already messing with catalina.polocy, I added:
permission java.lang.reflect.ReflectPermission
"suppressAccessChecks";
And now finally XWiki starts fine.
But when trying to create a new page:
com.xpn.xwiki.XWikiException: Error number 3201 in 3: Exception while
saving document Main.Teste do SandBox
Wrapped Exception: Error number 3211 in 3: Exception while updating
archive Main.Teste do SandBox
Wrapped Exception: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission user.name
read)
And here we go, more messing with catalina.policy:
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.name", "read";
No I can create new pages inside the Wiki, and add Comments and files to
the page. Looks like I found all it takes to run XWiki inside a Security
Manager. Here's the final form of my aditions to catalina.policy:
grant codeBase "file:${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-" {
permission java.io.FilePermission
"${catalina.home}/webapps/xwiki/-", "read,write,delete";
permission java.io.FilePermission "/WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg", "read";
permission java.io.FilePermission "/WEB-INF/hibernate.cfg.xml",
"read";
permission java.net.SocketPermission "127.0.0.1:3306", "connect,
resolve";
permission java.lang.reflect.ReflectPermission
"suppressAccessChecks";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.name", "read";
};
And dont' forget changes to lig4j.properties and ehcache.xml which had
to be moved from WEB-INF/lib/xwiki.jar to WEB-INF/classes.
The problem is, I'm almost sure my ISP will refuse to add
[java.lang.reflect.ReflectPermission "suppressAccessChecks"]. Others
should be fine. So I'd be very grateful if someone helps me making
Struts not need this permission.
