I know several people are using LDAP authentication successfully so  
the answer is yes. It's possible that there are still some  
limitations though.

LDAPIntegrationAD. Maybe it can help you.

We need to add general documentation about configuring LDAP on  
xwiki.org so anyone who can help is most welcome.

Others on this list know more than I do on LDAP integration so let's  
hope they chime in... ;-)
