Anca Paula Luca commented on XWATCH-135:
----------------------------------------

here's the description of the same issue, from the duplicate report:
How to reproduce
-------------------------
Just take a XWiki and make it private so nobody can access anything on the XWiki without authentication. Then add the RSS-feed from this XWiki to the other instance running XWiki Watch and you will see that you don't get any results.

Or try to add this feed: http://www.manager-tools.com/premium/premium_docs_rss.xml

Impact
---------
Authorized people can't use the RSS-feed.

How to solve (unqualified proposal)
-------------------------------------------------
In most cases it's the standard htaccess protection (http://www.manager-tools.com/premium/premium_docs_rss.xml) which asks directly for the username and password. In XWiki Watch you could now implement this by letting the user set the username and password for the feed and fill the fields with the given data. If the website (or the specific part of it) itself is protected as in my example with XWiki mentioned, well, I guess there is no way to solve that in an easy way as the used login-form various from page to page, however, maybe it's possible to scan the form for keywords like 'username' and 'password' (and variants of it) and fill those fields....

> Right now XWiki Watch doesn't seem to be able to consume RSS feeds from other XWiki sites, unless those sites have unregistered user permissions on the RSS feeds. The ability to use XWiki Watch will be amplified ten fold if it can be used on other XWiki sites.
> We build SaaS Solutions for our customers, and we use XWiki as the platform, but we cannot use XWiki Watch to monitor activity on our customer wikis, we must use NetVibes Ginger.
> Adding support for feeds with basic authentication would be good.
