[xwiki-users] wiki displays rubbish

I am editing a page and type this xwiki syntax in:

1 Links 

A list of useful reference material for build tools.

1. [Maven2>http://maven.apache.org/]
a.[Introduction to
Repositories>http://maven.apache.org/guides/introduction/introduction-to
-repositories.html]
a. [Available Plugins>http://maven.apache.org/plugins/index.html]
a. [maven-jetty-plugin>http://www.mortbay.org/maven-plugin/index.html]
1. [Continuum>http://maven.apache.org/continuum/]

I expect a list something like this:
1 xxxx
	a xxxx
	b xxxx
	c xxxx
2 xxxx

What I actually get on the rendered page is a mess. The indentation is
wrong, there are blank lines and so on.
