Thanks for your reply. I am sorry for not changing the subject in using the reply mode. Usually I am careful to do that ...

In fact I had the proper rights set, but obviously I have done something wrong in my messing with the files after the initial instalation of XWiki. After Brain's and your hint that setting the rights should do  the work, I just reinstalled XWiki and with the same rights I don't have a problem.
