Indeed :-) In order not to code stuff twice, the easiest thing to do when
you want to follow a given topic is to add it to your watchlist (using the
"watch this page link" in the Watch menu at the top of the page in XE 1.3)
and then subscribe to the RSS feed of your watchlist.

You'll get real-time (or almost, because there's probably a cache set
somewhere) notification of new messages.

You could also try to use your own EPEC IRC bot to handle the job ;-)
