I think it could be interesting to adopt something similar to the Solr facets API to return value counts for any property. This could support both returning the value counts together with the result, and requesting them on demand (and the source could also just support it for some properties, and only in one of the two ways). And then, we should indeed properly support adding the tag property to any Live Data (requires XWIKI-22400), and configure a tag cloud filter for it (that could also be used for any other property). For convenience, we should provide some shorthand at least in the LiveTable source to enable this without requiring much configuration.
