Hi! Note that this is not a regression, the behavior can be reproduced also on older XWiki versions (tested on XWiki 8.4.6).

The placeholder's description is: "type the link label" and if it's not changed by the user, the link is inserted as such, but if the field is empty, the label is auto generated according to the target page/link name.
