The discussion on the forum highlighted that this is a break of backwards compatibility. Given the actual usefulness of implementing this and the time it's been taking to discuss this new UIX details and consequences in depth, I decided to go for another solution to resolve XWIKI-22996. I'll be closing this ticket for now since it does not seem like something positive to add in XWiki Standard.
