Can you paste the question that is being asked in the confirmation when changing the syntax? Is the question "are you sure you want to change the syntax?" or "do you want to convert the content after changing the syntax?". AFAIK changing the syntax without performing the conversion is a real use case. So when you say No or close the confirmation you're not canceling the syntax change but the content conversion.
If we do what you suggest then you won't be able to change the syntax without triggering the conversion, which would be a regression.
