I have trouble reproducing this use case.
From what I can see, when using the sortable table macro, the overflow strategy of `.xwiki-content` is changed from `auto` to `unset`. This stops the table from overflowing from the page.
In order to get a scroller on the table itself, I added three style rules on it. See the screenshot below.
