I don't have permissions to reopen the ticket but just to reiterate - we noticed this issue with the Markdown extension not XWiki 2.1 syntax. 

Here's a video demonstrating what happens when I resize the image inline and then when I adjust the dimensions from the Advanced section of the image editor (same result):
