Hi! Note that this is not a regression, the behavior can be reproduced also on older XWiki versions (tested on XWiki 8.4.6).
The placeholder's description is: "{*}type{*} the link label" and if it's not changed by the user, the link is inserted as such, but if the field is empty, the label is auto generated according to the target page/link name.
When the Link box is displayed the first time, the Placeholder's text {+}is selected{+}, so it can be deleted by a single "Backspace" press if the user wants that the label to be automatically generated according to the name of the page/link inserted.
Having the option to choose to type upfront a custom label instead of automatically generating it by default for example can be handy when a (very) long URL is inserted. The users will need then to manually delete the long URL from the "Display Text" field in order to type a more friendly label for that URL (or to make more editing actions in order to trim that URL to be suitable for a user friendly label). |
