Current behaviour is probably expected in most cases: my usecase was very specific and I've been able to fix it using a custom RedirectionFilter. I added some information in https://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Documentation/DevGuide/Architecture/URL%20Architecture/#HRedirections so that it's less a surprise in the future.
