With the latest redesign of the registration/login use cases, we improved this step. As you can see in the screenshot above, after registering, the user is presented with a "welcome" message and a couple buttons. This step now has a purpose beyond technical needs or implementation quirks.
IMO registering is kind of an important action that you really don't want your user to do/miss by mistake. This screen helps cement the action as something important that I feel would not be done as well with a notification.
