Agreed with the last 2 comments. My two cents:
- The decision made in
XWIKI-5197 14 years ago seems to be quite unfortunate for me, as it goes against POLA for many users. My reasoning is that it should be left up to the user to decide which kind of edit they currently do, moreover when the UI apparently says (but currently just pretends) they can do so. They can e.g. add a new chapter, then Save and then another chapter - both edits being Major edits.
- In
XWIKI-5197, the reasoning is "It's mostly used as a "Save draft version now", used frequently while work is still in progress.". If it should really serve this purpose, it would be great to rather introduce "collapsing" of the draft versions on the "final save" into one version being saved to history. Maybe there is a ticket for that already?
- Maybe the behavior of the Save button could be an option in the XWiki preferences, so that companies can choose what suits them more?
- For now, what about at least e.g. display some useful tooltip while hovering over the "Minor edit" checkbox and/or over the Save button?
