It would not be "strict WYSIWYG" by at least "near WYSIWYG" and much more convenient that it's currently.
The only important thing from my point of view would be that the layouting in edit and read-only mode matches such that the page does not "jump" erratically when switching between the two modes.
Personally, I don't see losing color when switching to edit mode as an issue.
At the moment it's extremely combersome to edit a page with many code blocks in WYSIWYG mode - directly editing in wikitext mode is the only viable alternative, but some pages are actually much clearer to edit in Wysiwyg mode.
