Hi everyone, Congrats to all of you. You have been selected for the GSOC 2008! I'm forwarding this email I sent on the xwiki dev list as I'm not sure you're all subscribed there. If not make sure you subscribe since this is the main communication tool. What are the next steps: * We strongly encourage you to blog about your participation to the GSOC and your experience. The more buzz the better for you and for the xwiki project ;) * Read http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GoogleSummerOfCode/ and start mingling with the xwiki community. More specifically we would like that each of you pick one or several existing issues in JIRA (it can be simple ones) and send a patch that fixes it/them before that period ends (from now till May 26th) This is a critical integration step to ensure all SOC students understand how XWiki works and it's a chance to start asking questions and get to know each other. * Start preparing the architecture for your GSOC project and discuss your ideas on how to implement it on the xwiki dev mailing lists. Thanks again. We're thrilled to have you on board! -Vincent on behalf of the XWiki dev team Begin forwarded message:

Hi Alexandru, Welcome on board. It would be great if all the SoC students used their XWiki profile on XWiki.org to write a nice profile about themselves and about their project, as well as add there their URL to their blog if they have one. We can then make a nice page in the Summer of Code zone to aggregate all this. Since we have such a nice promotion for 2008 SoC (thanks Google), we should plan some game at the same time. We could elect at the end of the year: - best participant in IRC - best documenter - best unit tester - best email participant - best specifications - best coder - best live demo of the soc project - best promotion of his soc project - best overall project - best mentor (elected by the students we can have some fun also :)) WDYT ? Yes, this is a good idea, but we must stress that this is not a real "competition", meaning that the final goal is to have a great summer, by helping students learn how to be part of the community, how to help others, how to write good code. Don't worry, if you won't be a "winner" on any of these categories, it's no big deal. If someone seems better than you, don't hate him/her, but try to follow the example and learn how to do better. -- Sergiu Dumitriu http://purl.org/net/sergiu/
Hello Ludovic. I like the idea, we could make some buzz around XWIKI and GSOC 2008 at XWIKI. It's a win-win situation for XWIKI and for the GSOC students (we both win popularity). I'm also gonna blog about my GSOC experience.. We should try to promote XWIKI, because it deserves to be better known. Welcome aboard to all students! Please make sure you read and understand the "Suggested way of working for SOC students" on http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GoogleSummerOfCode/
More specifically it's now the bonding period. As such we'd like each SOC student to pick one or several existing issues in JIRA and send a patch that fixes it/them before that period ends (from April 14th to May 26th) This is a critical integration step to ensure all SOC students understand how XWiki works and it's a chance to start asking questions and get to know each other.

Hi Wang, 2008/4/23 Wang Ning <[email protected]>:
Hi Malaka,
Glad to see you. I'm Wang Ning, the GSoC student working on Office Import project of XWiki. I wonder if the syntax validation and syntax high light can also work on vim editor? Is it impossible?
I think we need to write a separate vim script for this. This might involve describing XWiki grammar (in vim's language) as well as describing colors used for highlighting. But I'm not a vimscript expert and i think this is not related to Malaka's project (is it ?). Thanks. - Asiri

Yes, I know that. I agree vimscript is not related to Malaka's project. I'm just curious:-) 2008/4/23 Asiri Rathnayake <[email protected]>:
