Hi devs, This week I've been working on making a new UI proposal for the existing XWiki search interface. Hi Caty, Looks good to me. Here are some notes: * The paginator is not detailed. What happens if there are more than 5 result pages? * I think that while searching the context of the matched string is more important than the author or the modification date, at least for me. I mean in general if you're looking for a specific string then you're interested in the context where that string appears. This is what Google does. Indeed. That feature would be cool but it depends on whether it can be achieved using Lucene + Compass. I think it would be good to update the proposal taking this idea into account. This way once we've integrated Compass we'll already have the right UI for the feature (see my last comment on the page). In the meanwhile, I think keeping the page location + the last modification date is better than nothing. Guillaume

Indeed. That feature would be cool but it depends on whether it can be achieved using Lucene + Compass. I think it would be good to update the proposal taking this idea into account. Yes, Lucene can return the context, without much work and with minor performance penalties.

I've removed the filters background from the original proposal so that it can be much cleaner integrated with the current look of Toucan. I would really want to know what you think. Very cool Caty! The UI is fresh :) I have two question: - Is the breadcrum a real breadcrum that take into account the parent/children relationship ? It seems not, so I would say the choice of ">" in "Located in xwiki > Main > ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise12" as a separator for wiki/space/page is confusing, and not consistent with other UIs like the new Treeview. I think habing it "Located in xwiki:Main.ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise12" makes more sense. I know this looks like a technical way of presenting thing, but ultimately we want our users to be able to understand this notation by synchronizing the wiki explorer and its suggest field, so for me it's ok to use it in other places. Maybe adding spaces around separators make it more readable: "Located in xwiki : Main . ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise12" - There is no title in the page, is this a design choice ? It's not the actual page breadcrumb for the sake of simplicity + clarity -> breadcrumbs can become quite long, which would clutter the interface. Additionnally, the new dashboard (+ currently hidden space dashboard) reinforce the notion of pages in spaces, thus it makes sense to display them in the search. It tells the user where the page is located, which combined with the title helps him locate it and understand why it's there. About the way it should be displayed, I'm not sure using the technical notation makes much sense here... The ">" symbol is often used to symbolize that kind of relationship while ":" & "." come "out of nowhere"... Thus interface-wise keeping ">" seems better to me.

Yes it's a design choice suggested by Laurent, putting a title actually distact the user from the search bar. Since the search bar is the most important elemetn on the page, it should be displayed prominently - thus in practice replacing the title. Guillaume

I am still not very convinced. The principal issue I have is that it's too much close to what we display for breadcrumb (like in "Main: Welcome to XWiki Enterprise Incubator > Dashboard"), while not the same concept. I'd like we get more feedback on this topic before we go on with it. It probably means we have to decide on a strategy for the future for displaying the different kinds of paths inside the wiki (wiki>space>page path as in the proposal, and full parent/children path). Hi, In the search bar you can refine your search by selecting the space or the wiki you want to search in. These concepts of space and wiki must be found somewhere in the page, to let the user know his actions have a result (ex. if he selects only in space X - the results will show him that - will not be an invisible feature). We don't have implemented search in a parent/children relationship manner - so these informations can be confusing. The text describing is "Located in" it not says "Breadcrumbs" or parent/children relationship, explicit says that is the location of the page. The nice thing about the location is that if you hover it (hover each location link in the search page) - I've added titles to suggest that the first element is a wiki, the second is the space, etc. "Located in xwiki:Main.ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise12" - no J sorry :) very cryptic I agree that maybe ">" character can be confusing - so it can be replaced with " - ".
