[xwiki-devs] [Proposal] Add a http://design.xwiki.org wiki?
Hi devs, In the same manner that we have playground.xwiki.org, I'd like to propose to have a design.xwiki.org wiki for putting our Designs and Mockups (be them static or dynamic). Right now we have design and mockup information in 2 places: - http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Design/ - on incubator.myxwiki.org I'd like to propose that we merge them both on a new http://design.xwiki.org wiki (using latest XE 2.6 version). Note: If we had support for nested spaces I'd have proposed that we do it on the existing dev.xwiki.org wiki but we'll probably need several pages for each Design proposal. On design.xwiki.org I envision a home page listing all Design ideas with the ability to filter by state (implemented, in progress, dead). I envision one space per design idea and each home page would contain a DesignIdea object containing the metadata (status, etc). Similar to what we have on http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Design/ WDYT? Thanks -Vincent
Definitely +1 for the design.xwiki.org wiki. About one space per idea, I'm not so sure. I think it could be one page with a DesignIdea object per idea, and each such pages link to as many additional pages as it needs ; without the need to partition everything in its own space (I think this will lead to many spaces with just a home page - which is not a problem per se, but it does not bring anything on the table either). Also, I think the home page should not be just a livetable. I'd like to see "promoted" the active design ideas (the ones investigated during the current release for example), before that livetable. The {{reviews /}} macro I've contributed (that shows latests comments or annotations) could also be a good candidate for the home page / dashboard of that wiki. Jerome. +0. I remember an old idea to reduce the number of wikis on *.xwiki.org, instead of increasing it. -- Sergiu Dumitriu http://purl.org/net/sergiu/

Yes I thought about it but it would mean using name conventions in order to separate proposals and that's a real pain. It wouldn't work I think. Again, the limitation is that we don't have nested spaces. Thanks -Vincent
I'm +0 What's less clear to me on xwiki.org is where you find the XWiki SDK and how to develop "on top" of XWiki. dev.xwiki.org is a bit confusing in this matter. We should expose the Platform and DevGuide more as "platform" is not really clear (terms like sdk or api are more common) Otherwise I'm wondering what is the difference between dev and design. Is it: - dev is information for developers (processes, tools documentation etc..) - design is information about improvements on XWiki (actual action to improve XWiki) If so it is indeed relevant.. And indeed if we had nested spaces and even more "nested wikis", then it would make sense to do it like that. Ludovic Le 22/11/10 14:51, Vincent Massol a écrit :

This is the platform.

dev is about the xwiki development itself not how to develop on xwiki (as indicated on the home page of dev.xwiki.org).

design.xwiki.org would be a subwiki of the dev wiki, linked from the home of dev.xwiki.org.
Is it:
- dev is information for developers (processes, tools documentation etc..)
yes
- design is information about improvements on XWiki (actual action to improve XWiki)
yes, also in the category of the development of xwiki (and not development *in* xwiki). Thanks -Vincent

+1 if xwiki.org is more stable than incubator I would also like IRC not listening to minor edits on this wiki so people could freely edit|comment the design pages. This means having a workable wiki, not just a showroom|display one. for me Improvements space is sufficient, but if we want to centralize the process, than fine. If we decide to go with the new wiki, I will move all the content from incubator.Improvements in the new location. and yes, we can make a nice homepage for this wiki - I'll take care of that. Incubator should be more stable now as well.

I'd rather have it enabled by default, but make the bot support a "!silence design:Space.Page" command which will not notify updates on a document for a period of time. -- Sergiu Dumitriu http://purl.org/net/sergiu/
