Hi all, I have many questions and remarks: 1. I have exploited the XWiki version 0.9.840, so I developed much functionality but when I decided to upgrade to the version 0.9.1252 the XWiki not work, it seems that the database schema is not the same for both version, is it right? If yes, how to upgrade to the new version using old database? 2. When installing the version 0.9.1252 it seems that we can not change the name of the directory. The directory must be 'xwiki'! But with the version 0.9.840 whatsoever the directory it work perfectly. 3. This is very important to check...So when we use Google (to find) for downloading xwiki it seems there are many and not updated web sites... So the new user is often (I think) confused, (e.g http://sourceforge.net/projects/xwiki/, http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Download/Download and http://forge.objectweb.org/projects/xwiki/) 4. I would like to know, why you have decided to use HSQL? Do you think that it is more sufficient than MySql databases? How to administrate HSQL database visually like MySql administrator? How to convert HSQL database to MySql database? 5. Where can I find the news functionalities about new release (API, etc)? This is an important thing; I think it is preferable to add a text file (readme.txt) in the WAR file or exe installer...where user can have a quick idea about new functionalities... I am willing also to participate for writing complete documentation, tutorial etc (4-6 hours/week). Are there any work done before to produce fully documentation with examples and steps by step tutorials for learning xwiki? Any ideas about my questions will be strongly appreciated. Youcef

Yes, it is. Do you have in your xwiki.cfg the line : xwiki.store.hibernate.updateschema=1
2. When installing the version 0.9.1252 it seems that we can not change the name of the directory. The directory must be 'xwiki'! But with the version 0.9.840 whatsoever the directory it work perfectly.
Hum, maybe a bug. Can you tell me more about the error?
3. This is very important to check...So when we use Google (to find) for downloading xwiki it seems there are many and not updated web sites... Thanks for the informations. I redirect the page on xwiki.org to objectweb. On sourceforge, there is a message to say the project has moved to Objectweb. We can't do really more.
4. I would like to know, why you have decided to use HSQL? Do you think that it is more sufficient than MySql databases? How to administrate HSQL database visually like MySql administrator? How to convert HSQL database to MySql database?
It's because it's more easy, you don't need a mysql server. If you want to use it in production, i think it's better to use Mysql, the performance will be better, and more easy to maintain. You don't need to convert, you can use the export plugin. look at : http://svn.forge.objectweb.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xwiki/xwiki-tools/backup/
5. Where can I find the news functionalities about new release (API, etc)? This is an important thing; I think it is preferable to add a text file (readme.txt) in the WAR file or exe installer...where user can have a quick idea about new functionalities...
For sure. For the moment, you can find it on the log of the svn, and on the source code. We really need to document everything, but we lack of time.
I am willing also to participate for writing complete documentation, tutorial etc (4-6 hours/week). Are there any work done before to produce fully documentation with examples and steps by step tutorials for learning xwiki?
Every help is welcome. For the existing help, for the moment, you have : * http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/TuTorial * http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/ * http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/ Mostly it was the work of Cody with the help of the community. I've also started a new wiki fo xwiki.org. I still need to migrate the documents and create new tutorials. So depends on the time you have, you can impove the existing documentation, or create new tutorials and improve the new xwiki.org thanks, jeremi
Dear Jeremi,
2. When installing the version 0.9.1252 it seems that we can not change the name of the directory. The directory must be 'xwiki'! But with the version 0.9.840 whatsoever the directory it work perfectly.
Hum, maybe a bug. Can you tell me more about the error? In fact, all links in the version 0.9.1252 are hard coded when installing from the 'WAR' file. All internal links of pages refer to .../xwiki/... The directory must be 'xwiki' else no thing work. It is not really an error but we need just to change the link to the new directory which I don't know how to do it. Cheers. Youcef
