[xwiki-devs] [Brainstorming] XWiki Office Hours?
Hey guys, I've stumbled upon Jenkins' Office Hours initiative at https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Office+Hours and I found the idea to be nice. I wonder if there are users or xwiki devs who could be interested by setting this up for the XWiki project too See https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Office+Hours WDYT? Thanks -Vincent
Hi, I find the idea to be very interesting. For example what I could do is set up a session and demo a bit the prototype for one of the proposal I make. Seeing a demo could be more easy to digest than reading the proposal, although I try to be as short as possible and include as many mockups as I can :) For example one candidate for such a session would be the Flamingo Skin http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/Skin4x Since the hangouts are recorded I could go over the verbal feedback and take notes(because the written feedback mails would be missing). The feedback could be from a development or usability perspective. Discussions about development issues would go in the same way. We could also hold votes meetings (if is the case) and discuss our opinions until we reach a conclusion. Sometimes is easier to talk than to write. GSOC students could benefit from having an introductory session with the devs. Q/A from community members would be kind of interesting for the users, but could get easily get out of control (depending on the number of participants and how generic/specific the questions would be). Having to wait in line to get your question answered is not that interesting. Another idea related to hangouts would be stream our july Hackaton. The IRC/mailing lists are a great place to discuss and have your questions answered, but the video/demo/talk/pair-programming/hangout idea could be interesting for certain use cases. What I would like to know if other members of the community (beside the committers) would be interested in such things. Great, we just need some volunteers to bootstrap the thing and we're rolling. You could be the first one to go! :) The only thing that seems important to me is that this should be a discussion place but no decision should be taken on the hangout. Anything important for the project should go on the mailing list following the usual Proposal/Vote process since this is the only process that is fair, i.e. it gives enough time to everyone to answer. Let's see what others think and let's sit on it for a week. Then if we get enough interest, we could decide on a timetable (regular times is the best IMO, like every 1st Tuesday of the month at a given time). Some "open mic" sessions are great too. And others for users to ask questions live is also great. Thanks -Vincent On Jul 3, 2013, at 10:01 PM, Ecaterina Moraru (Valica) <[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Vincent, if you look at Jenkins, apparently most Office Hours are handled by the project lead. So unless you want to do it yourself, I'm not sure who else might do it. Guillaume On Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 11:10 AM, Vincent Massol <[email protected]> wrote:
