[xwiki-devs] [Idea] Sandbox flavor
Hi devs, Here’s an idea we discussed with Charles yesterday when he was surprised that clicking on “Sandbox” in the QuickLinks Panel wasn’t leading to a new wiki but to a page. The idea is: - create a Sandbox flavor - add training content in several spaces, on the home page of the wiki, that the user is encouraged to modify/edit - more generally make this whole wiki a training wiki for learning how to use xwiki - When an admin sets up an XWiki instance, if he wants a zone for his users to learn xwiki, he’d create a subwiki and choose the Sandbox flavor WDYT? Thanks -Vincent
Name it 'Playground' and use it on xwiki.org. It could be a flavor since it might involve a new wiki (in order to isolate the changes). Users might not play just with content, but also with rights, test applications, etc. Still we could make also an app, not a whole flavor, and have a 'Sandbox' app and a 'Help' app that teaches the users to use xwiki. I would put the two apps separate, since 'Help' would mean IntroWizard + Documentation, while 'Sandbox' is more of an experimentation space after you learn the concepts (and would be great to not be able to modify the documentation while experimenting). Have the rights on 'Sandbox' space very permissive (open for edit for guests, etc.) The 'Playground' flavor could install the 'Sandbox' and 'Help' apps, while 'Help' could be installed by default in any flavor.
