[xwiki-devs] Need help fixing a bug
Hey I wanted to try and fix a bug. I feel the bug "Some top menu URLs are pointing to the skin wiki instead of the local wiki" <http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-6544> (http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-6544) can be worked upon by me as I have studied velocity and have gone through the code of menuview.vm but I am unable to understand the scenario in which the bug surfaces. If someone could help me understand it , it would be of great help to me. Thanks, Supreet
Hi, First of all the scenario described there happens in a multi-wiki environment. If you want to play and set up multiples wikis you need to use XEM (XWiki Enterprise Manager) http://manager.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ not just a XE instance. Then you need to create a skin file (page having a XWikiSkins object attached to it) and override the menuview.vm from it. http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/Skins#HD.OverridingtheSkin... Hey, I ve set up XEM and created a skin file to override the menuview.vm. So now where exactly is the problem? I get the fact that a certain set of links are not leading to correct destination but which and what does "using that skin from a second sub-wiki" exactly mean? How do I create a "second sub-wiki"? PS:Sorry, been really busy with college work offlate and then had some
problems setting up XEM due to a misbehaving MySQL server :P Hence, the late response.

Hi Supreet, XEM scope is to manage multiple instances of wikis. For example, http://www.xwiki.org/ is a XEM that manages multiple sub-wikis, like http://enterprise.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ As you can see each wiki can have differences in the way stuff are displayed. On xwiki.org only the ColorTheme is changed (different color, different logo), not the skin (but changing the skin for each sub-wiki is a valid use case). Hey , I think i was successfully able to reproduce the bug , heres a screenshot www.xbug.supreetpalsingh.com . The 'View' , 'Print' and 'Actions' on top left corner are the buggy links , I am getting to understanding the code of menuview.vm and hence , fixing the bug. Hi, Well I think the problem was the link URL, not the way the link is displayed.
