[xwiki-devs] [UX][Proposal] Totem Application
Hi, I've created a proposal for improving the UI for Totem Application [1] http://design.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Proposal/TotemApplication Although the proposal is done using Macaw Skin [2], the principles can be applied also on the current iteration of the application which is using Flamingo Skin: - reviewing the translations and hint messages; - improving the creation inline-form and modal forms; - adding link for Totem.Items; - improved display of a totem's sections (borders, drag&drop); - improved display of config and order forms; - standardized modals (header, body, footer) for section edit/items/delete actions; Thanks, Caty [1] http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/TotemApplication [2] http://design.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Proposal/MacawSkin

Hi, Great that we are advancing on the Totem. This is a nice improvement to the Totem to make it much nicer. One suggestion is to also make proposals for the "Advanced" section in the "section content editing". There is work needed there not only in terms of look but to make it understandable what will happen in this advanced section. The objective of the Advanced section, which is not fully feature complete currently, is to allow to choose the content from existing XWiki App Within Minutes applications (or XWiki classes in general). Once you choose the general source, there is then two ways to select the data: 1/ Automatic way The content data is automatically selected by taking the last "N" items sorted by data, using the said mapping of fields 2/ Manual way The content data is manually selected in the same way as the "Simple" tab. In that case the mapping still needs to be provided. The feature of being able to "create" a new entry using a popup should still work (note that it's possible that for certain apps the popup fails to properly display the editing system, but for standard AWM it should work well). All this represent a lot of choices and it's important to make these choices understandable by the users. In general in TOTEM I believe the hints and documentation are very important. For example the "Edit Section" could be improved to allow some guidance to the user in choosing which displayer for his section. There would be an image for each displayer that gives and idea of what this choice actually does. Right now it's a list of text (that are not necessarly well chosen) and the user does not exactly know what it will do. Very nice Caty! BTW I really like your macaw skin style, the fact that it's less crowded. I think we can transform flamingo into that by changing the top level menu and a few other less minor changes, not sure when we'll have the time though... probably something for 8.x now… I think I also like the consistent approach of using the "+” button (possibly having several Add options in case several things could be added to the page).
