[xwiki-devs] [Proposal] - Adding a "Getting Started" space in the default XWiki Enterprise XAR
Hi, Ludovic pointed out to me that many wikis include some kind of tutorial space explaining what a wiki is and how it can be used. I have checked PBWiki & Confluence and both of them include a couple pages explaining what's a wiki. On top of this, the current homepage, which included some information about what a wiki is and what it can be used for, will soon be replaced by a nicer one with way less content. Thus I'd like to contribute a XAR with 4-5 pages helping new users getting started with our wiki. Here's what I'd envision for the XAR's contents: - What's a wiki and what can it be used for - Edit a page and create a link - Change your wiki's logo and move the panels around - Protect the wiki (basic rights setup for a couple configurations: public / private wiki) Basically the first steps most XWiki users will undertake when arriving on a blank XWiki Enterprise instance. Idea: maybe we could kill 2 birds with one stone and making this a getting started tutorial that would be on xwiki.org in the user guide and we would package that same tutorial in XE as a default installed application. Sure. I have one question though: if included in XE, this User Guide will have to be available in the wiki's language if it's not english. I can write in a GettingStarted space on enterprise.xwiki.org, but where can I / should I put the translations? At a higher abstraction level: which deployment strategy should we pursue for this? From another wiki to XWiki.org & the default XAR? From XWiki.org to the default XAR? Something else? Guillaume

Hi there, I've updated the guide with a new section to cover the items suggested by Helmut (hel-o) in another thread. It's still located at http://enterprise.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GettingStarted/ for now. Do you think it can be considered for inclusion in XE's default XAR as of today? If not, what's still needed? Please keep in mind that: 1. This is only the first version and it will improved later on based on user feedback 2. It needs to be kept short and concise to avoid duplicates with XWiki.org as much as possible 3. It will have to be translated in other languages, thus the shorter the better 4. I need to add more links to relevant pages of XWiki.org in the guide If it's approved, what's the workflow to include it in XE's default XAR ?
