Java 1.4 is still a safety standard on some of the major Linux distributions (Blackdown JDK). It will be hard to convince that many sysadmins to change the distro or to install "untrusted" packages. So we must still support Java 1.4, at least for a while, until Java really gets Open Source and gets accepted by the GPL-addicted community.
