Since 6.3 there is a xwiki.authentication.ldap.maxresults configuration in xwiki.cfg file to configure this. Before that there is not really any way to do that out of the box. However LDAP authenticator is not changing very often so you could probably try to replace the xwiki-platform-ldap-authenticator jar you have in WEB-INF/lib by the 6.3 (or more) one you can find on http://nexus.xwiki.org/nexus/content/groups/public/org/xwiki/platform/xwiki-....
