Actually what is "obsolete" is the concept of plugin if you are talking about the message on http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/SQL+Plugin but it should still work. A better word would probably be "deprecated" instead of "obsolete" which is maybe too strong. Even the standard XWiki distribution still use some plugins.
