[xwiki-users] can't start xwiki
I downloaded xwiki enterprise stand alone for windows. I double click the Start xwiki icon and the dos window pops open briefly. When I point my browser to http://www.localhost:8080/, I get a network error. What am I missing here? Something is definitly wrong but that isn't enough information to go on. Can you start xwiki from the command line? Open the command line and navigate to where the xwiki exe file is and run it. Maybe it will output something which makes some sense before dieing. Caleb Susan Wall wrote:

I would say there's no exe, if I remember correctly, there's a .bat file -- start_xwiki.bat if I'm not wrong (so if you don't find an exe don't panic, just run the .bat). What windows version are you trying this on? I could give it a shot as well on my 7 to see what happens... Thanks, Anca
before dieing.
Caleb

From the information you supplied I'd suggest your URL is wrong. Try calling your wiki with: http://localhost:8080/ Normally this points to your Webserver home (if you configured it to run on port 8080). Usually you'll have your wiki run in a subdirectory e.g. /xwiki. Thus your URL would be http://localhost/xwiki. Since I didn't use the standard setup exe of XWiki I cannot tell you the standard path it installs itself to but I hope this information helps.

Hi Susan, Your server window is probably closing because the application cannot write files to disk(Eg: using Program Files folser). You either need to install xwiki into another folder or run the server as "Administrator". After that you should be able to use the wiki by typing http://localhost:8080 into the browser.
