Because I'm not familiar with XWiki's development structure, I was thinking it was a skin change, not a class change (if I understand correct). I guess at the end of the Skins page in the Dev Guide, I would like to see something like:
"If you are interested in making more advanced changes to XWiki's functionality, you probably want to check out the Panels area"
