Hi,
Interesting feature: I like the way GMail treats attachments. We could
have something similar in the attachment list. Each supported file format will have some links next to the default download link, for previewing as HTML, downloading as PDF, converting to the equivalent concurrent format. For example. we could have:
[doc] QuarterlyReport.doc ^1.2^ [preview in browser] [download as PDF] [download as .odt] Posted by [John Smith] five minutes ago
[ods] ExpenseReport.ods ^1.1^ [preview in browser] [download as PDF] [download as .xls] Posted by [Jane Smith] yesterday
However, we should carefully consider the implications, since users could expect this to be a perfect feature they can trust, and data loss could occur when the transformation fails partially.
I like the Gmail-like idea too and it would indeed be a cool addition.
Another interesting thing to do would be to let the user export any wiki page in the Office format of his / her choice. Instead of uploading a document, why not simply export an existing wiki page?
If that's can be done it could be useful, I think many people would like to be able to export wiki pages in the .doc or .odt format.
Yup, these are definite possibilities. I wish if I could spend a week on this ;) There was a university student working on a office-exporter project for XWiki but not sure of it's status. I'll point him into this thread and see. Thanks. - Asiri

Thanks.

PS: It would take about 2-3 days to fully implement and test the application.
