Hmm -- I was think about case lightweight Apache/Tomcat.
If we think about J2EE - yes, it's not allowed, but is using ThreadLocal is allowed inside J2EE application ?
good point! I think it should be ok since once a request is started on a container instance, it continues on that same instance.
(And yet one moment to care is http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6254531 [workaround is cleaning ThreadLocal at the end of each request] )
