Is src/main/perl required?

Hi, I've just moved src/perl to src/main/perl and in doing so I've modified the build.xml file. I've noticed that the part of the build using the perl scripts is commented out. Thus my question: Are the scripts in src/main/perl used? If not, can we delete them? (it'll always be possible to resurrect them if we want to as they're in the SCM).
