[xwiki-devs] stupid fixed background scroll bug in FF3
Hello, has anybody the same slow and choppy scrolling issue under Firefox3 with XWiki? Apparently this is linked to the fixed CSS background for the header menu... It doesn't appear on all hardware/OS configurations but lots of people complain about it. As XWiki uses a fixed background by default, I preferred warning you because this is really a pain using xwiki under FF3 on my computer :) (if you remove the "fixed" CSS field, it works betteeeeeeeer) regards Pascal

It's a Linux thing, if I know / remember well. At least it happens on my Ubuntu(s) and I've heard other distro users complain about the same thing. Seems to be the ff (not only 3) CSS implementation under Linux, but we need to investigate more. Happy coding, Anca Luca

Me. It's not caused by one piece of software, but by a combination of elements. For example, using the open source Mesa driver is way slower than using proprietary drivers from NVidia or ATI, and the intel driver doesn't show slow downs at all. It's much worse on Ubuntu than on Gentoo. On Opera it is perfect, regardless of the environment. I'm also annoyed by this, and was planning to investigate this further to see if anything fixed causes slowdowns, or it's also triggered by the kind of image (png, with or without transparency). yes I'm 32bits with AMD64 (i know, this is a bit stupid but i had too many issues with Java64 and eclipse and ubuntu 8.04)... I think this might be linked to nvidia drivers and as anyone knows, nvidia can't code drivers :) but this is also a specific issue of FF because epiphany works fine... Mhh Konqueror and Opera do not suffer that much, but you will still notice it, depending on the Site structure/complexity. Meaning http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome is a little bit faster in scrolling than http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ or http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Screenshots for instance Greetings Jonas

Hi Pascal, The new JDK 1.6 u10 seems quite stable on 64bit. I had lots of issues with all former Sun JDKs on 64bit with Eclipse. Until recently I was using the IBM JDK for starting Eclipse, but after some stable Days with the new JDK and Eclipse I guess it's safe to recommend it. cheers Jonas Pascal Voitot wrote:
