There is a bug on LDAP authentication in 1.6. It's now fixed and will be part of 1.6.1 release. In the meantime you can download the last xwiki-core jar 1.6 snapshot at http://maven.xwiki.org/snapshots/com/xpn/xwiki/platform/xwiki-core/1.6-SNAPS....
