Headings

Can somebody explain why the use of headings is so inconsistent? I've redefined my wiki's CSS but the GUI editor seems to ignore this. If I use the xwiki line editor and code it using 1, 1.1 etc then I get really inconsistent results, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any clues about how to make it work consistently? Robin
