Is there a reason NOT to bundle Tuckey's solution with standard XWiki distribution?
No reason AFAIK. We could bundle it but the question is more: do we want short URLs by default?
Why wouldn't anybody want short URLs? Exactly! If we ask like this, anyone would have a reason to say "YES, I want" :-) http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-9628 - another Jira issue to start the process.
