I have tested this on XWiki 4.5RC1 with the default Jetty/HSQLD zip and it worked fine… IMO your issue is with encoding configuration, see: http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Encoding See Thanks -Vincent
Shouldn't be all special-characters percent-encoded?

in Curriki we do this, basically this zaps all non-ascii chars. However, this requires a special page creation ("create a learning resource" in our case).
