There’s FOSDEM coming in Brussels on the 1st and 2nd of February where there’ll probably be around 8 xwiki developers there. It would be great if some XWiki users around the world could organize some events! Some time back there was a frapp.com map of xwiki users around the world (http://web.archive.org/web/20070630195208/http://www.frappr.com/xwikiusers) but they stopped their service and we lost this feature. It could be interesting to find a new way so that xwiki users could locate themselves on a map. This could then be the basis for organizing meetups where there are clusters of xwiki users. WDYT? Thomas, Right, I had added a link which referenced my longitude and latitude in the URL, so when anyone clicked the link it rendered the map pointing to my tag. I removed that and updated the link in the XWiki page so it should render the map based on all locations, not just mine (I added that information as a comment on the XWiki page). I find it a good experience at least. We could move to something else a bit later, I was thinking about adding a city field in xwiki.org profiles and generate a Google map based on it in some of the wiki pages, should not be too hard with the Google APIs I guess. I don't mind keeping this one, but maybe some XWiki'ers will get confused when they see my account information versus something official from XWiki.

Thomas and I discussed this quickly and in our opinions we should instead create a small xwiki application to do that: * Add the ability to enter one’s location on his profile page on xwiki.org * Automatically put all filled user’s location in a map on a xwiki page (we can also use our user directory application to display user’s location in the livetable so that it can filtered by town/country for example). Oh, and let me know if you need any help. What would be wicked is if xwiki wikis (deployed locally or through XWikiSAS) could select to show their location on the XWiki master map.
